Article about ACF Brill Model C-10 Bus built on Willys Chassis

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Unusual, Willys Wagons

UPDATE: Guy found some great links regarding this Bus, which was also known as Jitney (see Steve’s links in the comments).  According to a New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center report dated September, 2010, there is no known C-10 in any collection.  The ATHS society believes at least 25 buses were built.  The Chassis is Willys, the Body is from ACF-Brill, and the model is C-10.

This picture from Flickr shows the bus was branded Willys on the front. I was surprised to see that.

From 02/07/2013: This 1947article shows an example of ACF Brill Model C-10 Bus built on a Willys Chassis. Anyone heard or seen one of these? At least a few went to Atlantic City. These were designed as small, inexpensive buses for marginal lines.

Follow Me Jeeps Photos

• CATEGORIES: Features, Magazine, Old Images • TAGS: , .

UPDATE:  Howard found this photo at warttimepress.com on the front of the October, 23, 1944 issue of Junior Scholastic.

1944-10-23-scholastic-press

Leo was cleaning up his files and ran across this unusual “Follow Me” Jeep photo.  He couldn’t remember where he found it, so if you happen to know a source, let me know.

Follow_me_Hres_origineel

As I looked for an originating source, I found a bunch more photos. I also learned that sometimes incoming gliders were moving too fast for the ‘follow me’ jeeps. In one case, instead of hitting the jeep, a glider tipped its wing upward to pass over the jeep, probably to the jeep driver’s surprise or relief. Here they are:

This was posted at the RAF Forum:

Here’s one taken last summer and posted on Flickr from the Duxford Military Vehicles Day

This one appeared at a 2004 Military Jeep Club of Queensland Swap Meet in Australia. This page is full of military jeeps, seeps, and more.

Craig’s Pic of the Week: Trucks in TV Commercials

• CATEGORIES: Craigs Pic of the Week, Features, Willys Trucks

Craig found these two pics from a 1964 issue of Jeep News.

Guy provided additional information:
“The top picture with the caption underneath “MOUNTAINS IN COLORADO….” would have been taken on the east side of the Garden Of The Gods in Colorado Springs. The shot is looking west. Appears it could have been made from the present site of the Garden Of The Gods Visitor and Nature Center. See this Google Map link: http://goo.gl/maps/alpDj

The area to the west and north of the Garden Of The Gods is where the devastating Waldo Canyon wildfire swept into Colorado Springs last summer.

The Garden Of The Gods is a spectacular sight. Hiking is allowed, but no jeeping.

Lake Jeeping from 2010 in Spooner, WI

• CATEGORIES: Features, GPA (SEEP), Reader Stories

Louie asked me if I’d be interested in some pictures from the 2010 Redbull Historic Military Club gathering, which included jeeps, seeps and floating trailers. I did not know those Bantam trailers floated so well!

louie-larson-seep-lores

Louie writes, “For a number of years a military collector ( Kevin Kronland of Spooner Wi.) held a 3 day event at his Cranberry farm. He had almost 100 vehicles of his own and our Redbull Historic Military Club would attend with about another 50 to 100 vehicles. Of course we all had a great time showing ,driving, and talking about our vehicles. He had a DUCK, a GPA, and other collectors brought there am fibs to run in his cranberry pond. (A real lake.)
