August 1949 Salesbuilder

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features • TAGS: .

This August 1949, Volume 1, No. 6, Salesbuilder shows off the new 4WD wagon. There’s  a report about a Forest exhibition in May of 1949 near Eagle River, Wisconsin, where the fire jeeps showed their ability to get quickly to fires. The Jeepster’s new inline 6 gets a nod, as does the Bountiful Jeep Posse.

1957 Revell Radio Jeep Poster on eBay

“Vintage 1957 Revell Radio Jeep & Trailer Two Sided Dealer Store Display Poster – from a Revell Co. Employee Collection. Has some wear & a fold line. From a smoke free home. Be sure to see my other listings for some other items from this collection.

History of this item: I recently purchased a collection of model related items from a local auction house. They would only tell me that the original owner was a former Revell employee, unfortunately the auction company would not disclose any names or information about the consignor of the collection. The majority of this collection is related to the 1950s Revell models, but there are some items from many other companies. I have been advised by several collectors that this person was most likely a Revell Co. Representative and he would have travelled to Toy Fairs & Industry Trade Shows of the time, where he would have promoted Revell Products and also acquired advertisements from other companies. Please do not contact me about purchasing any items from this collection, they will be listed for auction as I have the time.”

UPDATE: Still Available. Rudy noted that this was sold at auction in 2014.

(07/05/2019) Craig shared this nice looking Jeepney. It’s got a number of cool details, including a map of the midwest painted on the ceiling. Listed as a 1946, I couldn’t say for sure if that year is accurate or not.

“1946 F-134, T-90 3 speed, if you want a vehicle to take to the car and Jeep shows that will always bring a smile and draw a crowd this is it!! Super rare to find in this country, Jeepneys were made after WWII when we left our Jeeps in the Philippines, the people there were very crafty and creative, they turned the WWII Army Jeeps into colorful people haulers, there are only a few in this country, here is your chance for a cool vehicle for your collection that is guaranteed to stand out.”

1946 War Asset Sale of Jeeps

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images, Old News Articles

The June 25, 1946, issue of the San Francisco Examiner shared the news that more than 5000 veterans lined up begining at midnight to purchase just over 1500 available jeeps, though not that many jeeps would actually sell. For most veterans, there multi-hour waits were in vain. The buyer of the first jeep discovered that his jeep wouldn’t start, but the motor pool helped him get it going.

Pre-jeep Jeeping: Swing Dancing and Theft

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old News Articles • TAGS: .

These two pre-1940 news items highlight how “jeep” and “jeeping” already had definitions prior to the launch of Bantam’s prototype.

In 1937, this article on “Jeeping” as a swing dance, as testified in court by Detective Fred V. Boye, was widely distributed among newspapers. I have been unable to isolate exactly what moves define the “jeeping swing dance”. This example article comes from the July 28, 1937, issue of the Park City Daily News out of Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Two years later, in 1939, a couple of Washington State vagrants (no, they aren’t relatives of mine) got caught “jeeping” pin ball machines using a “jeep”. A woman, along for the ride, even had a marijuana cigarette! This article is from the November 29, 1939, issue of the Green Bay Press Gazette:

Unusual Dualmatic Hubs (Possibly for a Ford?)

• CATEGORIES: Features • TAGS: .

Tim’s father-in-law purchased these Dualmatic hubs, but Tim’s unsure what vehicle they fit. Given the hub model number is F-230, we believe these were likely used on a Ford truck (possible the F-250, as that was the model of truck his father-in-law had). Anyone recognize them or know if they’d fit on a 1960s/70s Ford truck? The hubs are 19 spline.
