California State Park Rangers and Jeeps

• CATEGORIES: Books, Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

First published 09/17/2012: I ran across this book about “California State Park Rangers” written by Michael G. Lynch, which includes several pictures of Rangers and Jeeps.  I’ve included three images below and don’t know if there are more.  The book covers the history of California State Park Rangers, beginning with the first Ranger Galen Clark at Yosemite State Park in 1866.  With a career of thirty-five years in the California Park system, Michael plans to donate some of the proceeds to the parks.

According to the author, many of the images come from the state park archives, which you can view online here.

This old photo from the South Dakota Department of Agriculture shows a CJ-2A with a 100 gallon tank mounted in the rear at or near Custer State Park. It appears there may be another tank across the cowl. Unfortunately, the photo isn’t very large.

1953 WILLYS M38A1 MILITARY JEEP 35,300 MILES VGC
For sale is an original 1953 Willys Military M38A1 Jeep. I obtained this Jeep from the McClure Fire Department in Ohio several years ago. It was occasionally used to plow their parking lot and was stored indoors for the most part. It still has many of the military accoutrements such as the convoy blackout marker lights, H.D. bumpers, waterproof ignition, 24 V. electrical system and illuminated high/low red dash lighting.

ORIGINAL POST 07/27/2012:

1. A cold day for guarding the boarder.us-border-patrol-museum

2.  Border Patrol Inspector observing sign of possible illegal border crossers encountered while on Jeep patrol duty near Del Rio, Texas – March 9, 1956:

3. High lookout point overlooking the Rio Grande River, June 29, 1961. [Location is still used to overlook Rio Grande River.]

This is the CJ-2A displayed in the Museum. It looks a little green in this picture, but it’s actually more gray in person.

1963 Truck with Utility Bed Quartzsite, AZ **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Willys Trucks • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $18980

“This truck was converted to it’s present Resto-rod condition using a Chevy Blazer running gear mated to the original Willys frame. It is a great conversion that gets a great deal of attention.

This truck drives fantastic at Interstate speeds.

The renewed interior and carpet is very good with the exception of the racing style bucket seats. The seats were new three years ago, however, the Arizona sun has over baked the fabric. The cushions are in good shape, but the fabric is beyond fixing. New seat covers will be needed.

The paint is in very good condition and looks great up close. Not a 20 footer. It should do well at car shows.”

Fire Jeepster’s new Home

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Jeepster This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

1949-jeepster-firetruck4Steve Elkins reports the following:

In case you’re wondering what happened to that cute little Jeepster Firetruck some of us have been following on eWillys, it will soon be used as a vineyard tour Jeep at the Gandona Winery in California’s Napa Valley.  After two little mechanical problems on the tow vehicle extending the 1100 mile adventure by two days, I was finally successful in transporting the red Jeepster from Southern California to the Wine Country, Northeast of San Francisco.

The seller had a change of plans and had to let go of the red Jeepster.  The buyer is new to the Willys experience and is really excited about his new purchase.  A new steering wheel, and re-chroming the front bumper is the first order of work to spiffy-up the 65 year old chariot, re-powered with a second generation Buick 231 c.i. V6 and automatic trans.

After seeing this on eWillys, I enjoyed connecting the seller and the buyer.  And I made a new Jeepster connection with the seller.  He has a nice ’50 Jeepster, daily driver with a rare optional L6-148.  We might just see him at the Willys America Open House on July 19, 2014.

Keystone Automobile Club Jeep

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Old Images This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I found this interesting photo of Bennet Larson and a few others standing in front of a Keystone Automobile Club Jeep. Keystone was an automobile club that was absorbed into the AAA Mid-Atlantic in 1965. The photo was taken in/near Philadelphia. I imagine the jeep was used for helping stranded motorists or patrolling?

1951 Fire Truck Blitz Wagon **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Willys Trucks • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: This Fire Jeep Blitz Wagon sold for $14,805 on eBay.

These trucks were made in old forge ny by two gentleman there. Army Armstrong who is since deceased and Al Brussels who still resides in Old Forge, NY. They were made on multiple chassis but the earliest on the jeep chassis. The brand was “blitz buggy” fire apparatus . Not sure why or where that blitz wagon decal on the one listed came from. Many variants can be seen in the old forge fd 100th anniversary book as they were commonly demonstrated at old forge drill school which still exists. A similar picture and some history of the sister truck is on the cj3b page as bill Meyer tells the story of how he obtained his.” (read more about these trucks at the bottom of this post)

This same truck was auctioned back in Sept 2013 on eBay, but didn’t sell:

“3/4 ton class fire truck. Truck was used in the Alcoa Aluminum plant in Badin NC. Truck has siren, red lights and water pumper. No collision damage. No rust through. Body is in very good condition.

6,048 miles. The vehicle does run. It was last driven in Christmas parades several years back and has been in dry storage since. It will need some tune up attention to drive. Fluids are still in the engine. The carburetor may need to be cleaned and the fuel tank may need to be cleaned. We believe the tires are original.

It is original 6 volt.
Estimate 300 gallon water tank.
2 manual hose reels with hose hannay.
2½” fill line with hose
2½” discharge parts
Water pump is PTO (operated under water tank)?”
