1952 M-38A1 Sunnyvale, CA eBay

• CATEGORIES: Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, M-38A1 • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Seller has never washed it. Great old converted fire department jeep.

“Hi, up for auction is my 1952 M38A1 Willys. The Willys has seen a very colorful life, starting with its tour of duty during the Korean War era to its rebirth as a rim fire Willys Jeep, putting out rim fires along the Northern Sierras in the Tahoe National Forest. Bumps and bruises tell the story of the life of this non-stop built to do service, Willys. All of the Military accessories are still on the Willys and intact.

I’ve owned this Willys for several years and have had a blast driving the Willys on and off road, mostly off road. The Willys has never let me down. Fresh tuneup, fresh rebuilt carb, This Willys is turn key and ready to go. I’ve never washed it, the Willys has earned the dirt and grime that this workhorse wears! Below is a bit of history in regards to the legacy of the Willys M38A1….Enjoy!”

1969 CJ-5 (TWA) Goleta, CA eBay

• CATEGORIES: CJ5, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

1969-cj5-goleta-ca103

Thanks to Maury for doing the leg work on this one. The box behind the rear seat was used for gas, but we don’t know if it was to power the jeep or to carry aviation fuel for some unknown reason. It’s not a typical gas cap.

The seller provided some additional information:
The “box” behind the passenger seat is the fuel cell (gas tank). This jeep was equipped by LAX’s TWA. I bought the jeep through ebay some 5 years ago from the 3 owner who was a young plastic surgeon for the army he painted it green (I was glad he did a bad job, I brought back the red with on can of Goooff and found the red to be in very nice shape) and he added the passenger seat. However he never got it running and let it sit out resulting in the trans to fill with water due to the boot around the stick shift. I had to disconnect the drive shaft to be able to move it. I picked up the jeep in Southern Ca. Another Item not working is the speedometer, When rebuilding the trans, the speedo gear came out brittle and broke, Having not able to find one at the time of the rebuild, we left it out.

1969-cj5-goleta-ca104

From the ad:
“1969 Jeep CJ5, Original California jeep, used by TWA at LAX (one of 3 they used that year).  Jeep was to be used by the “Fire Inspector” (you can barely read it on the dash) Has original fuel cell put in for the airport. Original 4 cyl motor. 3 speed trans, 2 wheel drive, (NOT 4X4) Great on fuel.

I have had the trans rebuilt completely $2500. Unknown to me at time of purchase here on ebay, but the trans boot was gone and the trans filled up with rain water and locked up with rust.  Had to find and buy, then rebuild a starter (450).  Rear end rebuilt with new seals and bearings (500). New tires and new battery.  Minimal rust not bad for a 47 year old jeep (see photo)  Now the bad news, due to injury at work, and health reasons, I am unable to finish  my goal to restore to original TWA days. All that is left is the body. I have over $5000 invested. My loss can be your gain.  Jeep is located in Goleta, California.  Clean and clear CA title.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3000.

“Runs, Rebuilt master cylinder. Winch works. Additional parts included. Fair to good tires.”

(From the previous ad) “Caterpillar yellow covers this real life piece of 60’s history. Formerly driven by the Director of Field Training for the National School of Heavy Equipment, Charlotte, North Carolina. The school was founded by Gilbert S. Shaw in 1955 and operated until 1976. Apparently it was the first school of it’s kind in the world! It was painted for the school, then sold, had a 1970’s “restoration” and then sat for another 30 years. The 70’s restoration included a dash modification & a coat of ugly, drab tan. Our “restoration” process included many steps of hand sanding and polishing the entire vehicle to expose the school’s door sign and yellow paint job. Plus of course, clean up, repair, and history research..”

1967 CJ-5 Brush Fire Amenia, NY $7900

• CATEGORIES: CJ5, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Looks like a good price.

“I’m selling this all original, 1967 CJ5 Brush Fire Jeep with its original Buick 6 Cylinder “Dauntless” engine. The body and frame are extremely solid. I personally would do a repaint on it but it is not necessary. As you can see in the pictures it was built with brush fire fighting capabilities which make it rare. 4WD with low and high range. Extremely large and powerful winch mounted as seen in the pictures. Interior in excellent condition. Comes with a plow.

The Mack Bulldog on the front is equipped with a water line controlled from the drivers seat which allows the dog to “p” on people in front of it when the button is depressed. Great for parades, fire company display, farm use or just as a novelty driver. Vehicle starts and runs as it should. There is some work that needs to be done with suspension but currently I drive it on the road. Because of the weight from the special gear and water tank when full these jeeps were built with very heavy duty suspension systemsI have a clear transferable registration ready to go.”

• CATEGORIES: FC150-FC170-M677, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was $7000

(07/07/2015) This looks to be a good price. It’s an Ansul Model Dry Chemical Fire Truck serial #320. The FC serial number is 61568 19861.

“1961 Jeep Forward Control (FC-170) 4WD. 6192 miles on speedometer. It used to be a chemical fire truck in Cold Bay, Alaska. It now has a flat bed on the back. Much work has been done on this truck to make it a reliable vehicle for running errands. It would not keep up with traffic out on the highway (top speed might be 50 without an overdrive). It has a 226 CI Continental engine, 3 speed manual transmission, two speed transfer case, 5.38 differentials, locking hubs. This would make a great rig for hunting. It definitely gets a lot of attention wherever it goes. There is some minor rust-through at the bottom of the driver’s door. Both doors shut easily; windows crank up and down easily; all glass is good. I am asking for $7,000. I will not accept lower offers or trades.”

Willys Motors Makes “Ranger” for US Navy

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Old News Articles, Willys Trucks This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

A September 2, 1953, article in the Toledo Blade relayed the news that Willys Motors and Mobile Fire Apparatus, Inc., were planning to produce a Willys mobile fire jeep called the Ranger. According to Four Wheeler Magazine, the1952 truck shown below is an example of the Ranger. However, it’s a little puzzling that the truck is a 1952, when the announcement wasn’t made until late 1953? Maybe Mobile Fire Apparatus used an older chassis? Anyone have an insight on this?

1952-fire-truck-ranger

A second article shared the news that Brede Products was planning to sell a snow plow, powered by its own jeep engine. Below is one of two photos from Four Wheeler you can view the front of the rotary snow plow here. Anyone have a brochure for this?

(12/12/2016) Colored like it was a Fire Jeep at some point.

“1952 Jeep M-38A1, Military Jeep, Runs like a top, does not smoke. All of the pictures are with the Jeep running. Brakes work great, Shifts good through all of the gears, Low and High Range work, as does the four wheel drive. Parking brake works great and holds like it should. Horn works. All of the fluids have been changed with a new oil filter, I have installed NOS rear bumpers, NOS grill with paperwork from 1952, complete new exhaust system, rear fuel can holder, Seat frames and pans, along with new covers and foam. Glass is perfect with no cracks. The only thing that is not original military is the carb, which is a rebuilt, and the drivers side windshield wiper motor. There is some rust in the floor pan, and some access holes were made by the fire dept. in the rear floor. This Jeep could be used as is, or restored to it’s original color.”

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1600. Former airline baggage jeep.

Seller still has the 13″ rims. It used to be an airport jeep. Frame number matches the serial number plate.

“”This is a rare 2wd model of Willys Jeep. Its sometimes called the “Dispatcher” model. The manufacturing info for all DJ3A’s made in 1961 was only 1542 units. This particular vehicle was in use at the Denver Stapleton Airport. It has the correct flat-head 4-cylinder engine which will turn over, so its not seized up. This Willys needs someone looking to do a restoration job or someone just wanting a “toy” to fix up. I do not have a title since the person I bought it from bought it at an airport auction, since the Jeep was only driven at the airport, there was never any need for titles, registrations, or inspections. I had performed by the Vehicle Theft Task Force in Smith County showing that the vehicle ID/VIN came back clear. Jeep has brand new 2 month old cooper tires and American racing wheels. originals come with purchase”
