“My grandfather restored it back in late 90s and got it about 95 percent done. He got sick and it sat in his garage for 20 years. Not a numbers matching jeep and I am in the process of getting a title. Most everything was rebuilt engine axles and trans. Runs and stops. Steering is tight. Last year at Halloween we were pulling a hay wagon around and something in the rear end let loose. Only moves in front wheel drive. Entire jeep was taken apart and sandblasted no rust. “1942 GPW (Ford) Jeep. Family owned since 1970. Very good condition. New bikini top. Price is firm. Delivery possible up to 100 miles AFTER SALE.
This jeep runs and drives very well. It is about 85% original. Engine has been rebuilt and is NOT the original ford built engine. 12 Volt electrical with alternator. It has a tailgate which was on the Jeep when purchased in 1970 and updated with flush mount lights. That, the brush guard, and the bikini top are the only changes in the body. It has been well maintained and used regularly since it was purchased. A fun jeep to drive or a good start on a total restoration. ”

Looks like a solid GPW with one major modification: the steering box. Though the steering looks unusual, on the plus side it’s got a thick (half-inch??) support plate coming off the frame; also, it seems to have held up well (given, I imagine, this was an older mod). An additional plus is that the builder didn’t cut the front cross member when updating the steering (or so it appears), so I imagine someone could restore the original steering if they wished relatively easily. I think it would make a good entry level GPW for the right person.
