1942 GPW Barnesville, GA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB), Last Ride This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Was on eBay. **SOLD**

A little duck tape and some bailing wire and this is good to go!

“I’m selling a ’42 GPW, GPW 23679 D.O.D. 4-29-42 I bought this one for parts for myself and now have no need for it. Figured I would list it here vs. taking it to the scrapper!

The frame is in good shape, the front horns are the best I have ever seen! just the Bubba bumper on the front and the civi attachment on the rear

The tub has rot on the left rear where the tail light hole and tool box floor would have been (I’m including a tool box section from another tub) floors need to be repaired/replaced- tool box lids are in good shape, but as mentioned before the tool box’s are themselves rotted….. the pioneer tool area is in good shape, some rot but repairable, dash was cut by previous owner to remove the guages but is included and can be stitch welded back in, glove box was also removed by PO and had the original tags on it ( will give you his contact info if you need it) this one was early enough to have a flat bottom on the glove box and could be easily fabricated. Driver seat is a small mouth gas tank seat but the seat back was modified with another frame, passenger seat is F marked but will need new swivel mounts/ feet. Fenders are in decent shape, support channels are not rotted out like you typically see but the do have there share of dents and bends in them.Hood is original to this jeep, is F marked and in decent shape, some rot on the support. Its missing the left axle shaft in the pics but I have a Willys one I will include, the front left hub is off in the pics as well but is included.”

1942 GPW Florida **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

“Up for your consideration is a 1942 Ford GPW. Willys and Bantam also made these type of Jeeps. This unit went into service November 30, 1942. Not sure of any history during service however, I did research and found this GPW was sold at a WAA auction September 11. 1946 in Jacksonville Fl. From what I know a neighbor of my Grandparents went to Jacksonville on that day and purchsed this GPW. He used it as a hunting vehicle around our rural area. He was an avid bird hunter with trained dogs so he cut the rear of the tub out and moved it forward to act as a divider between him and his bird dogs. The GPW was parked at sometime in its life under a pole barn for what appears was head gasket change. Unfortuneately, it was never reassembled. After the mans death is sat many more years until new owners of the farm tore down the barns and this GPW was put out to pasture (literally). I aquired the GPW after it sat outside for about a year. Pictures speak louder than words so please look closely and ask any and all questions prior to bidding. The windshield, cylinder head, and hood (possibly other items) were not able to be found. I will include a link to a photobucket album for more pictures. The GPW has a lot of the Ford Script parts such as fuel filter, radiator cap, pintle hitch and probably much more. One item that is very unique is a period correct watch faced engine hour meter. . . . 1942 GPW Cumming, GA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB), trailer • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

(10/23/2012) This has an unusual story.

“O.K. military personnel, here’s your chance to own an iconic piece of history. This is an authentic 1942 Military Jeep (Ford GPW); matching frame and I.D. Plate. This jeep is probably one of the numerous leftovers from World War 2, Asian theater, as it was rebuilt at the 229TH Ordnance Base Depot, Oppama Ordnance Shop (OOS), located in Japan.

I’ve been told that this was a former Japanese navy aircraft rebuild facility located in Yokohama, Japan and was converted to the 229TH Ordnance Base Depot, after the war; much of what they rebuild went to the Korean conflict. I corresponded with a soldier who was stationed there during that time period and he told me that depot rebuilds were performed at the component level; every piece removed and replaced. That may account for jeeps that we find with a mixture of GPW and MB parts on them. I’m not sure if that is when my jeep was fitted with the body tub and windshield for a recoilless rifle, but it is a recoilless rifle version although it has round buttons on the rear tool boxes which suggest it is a MB tub.

According to Fred W. Crismon’s book U.S. MILITARY WHEELED VEHICLES, recoilless rifles were first tried in April 1945 on flat fendered jeeps. It became more commonplace during the 1950’s on M38 (flat fendered) and M38A1 (curved fender) jeeps although my body tub still has the gas tank filler under the seat suggesting an earlier version. The open back of the body tub suggests to me that this tub may have been designed for use with the latter M79 mount instead of the earlier version M75A1 mount, but I don’t know.

Therefore, I can’t be sure when it was installed unless this information is part of the Ordnance Depot Job Order Number detail, and I’m not sure if that data is still available. I don’t have the recoilless rifle and mount, but they do appear for sale from time to time which would significantly increase the value of the jeep. Included with the jeep is an authentic tow bar and 1951 Dunbar trailer. I’ve been told that the trailer is a typical companion of a recoilless rifle for carrying ammo and ancillary items for operating the rifle.

Somehow the jeep ended up in the Greek Army and was then imported to the USA. This I believe to be true because we found Greek coins inside the tub. The jeep is drivable and I used it mostly for running errands. I’ve taken it to a couple of car shows and it cruises at 60 mph with no shake or shimmy. Every time I drive it people beep their horns, wave, crowd around it, and want to talk about it – really a lot of fun.

1943 GPW Springfield, IL **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on ebay.

This will need some body work.

“A true survivor!!  Up for sale is my 1943 Ford GPW.  I own a car dealership, but this is one my personal vehicles.  This would be a great weekend toy, or a perfect candidate for restoration.  The body is the way we obtained it other than the decals, but it has had extensive mechanical attention since we purchased it.  We have recently installed a new factory correct Willys long block, a new clutch, a new carburetor, fuel pump, distributor, radiator, and fuel tank.  Other than its missing the original oil bath air cleaner, it’s pretty correct under the hood.  It has had the brakes and axles serviced, it’s been converted to a 12 volt electrical system, and all of the lights and  gauges work except the fuel gauge and horn.  It has the original 3 speed transmission coupled to a 2 speed transfer case.  It has had lockout hubs added, but they were on it when I got it.  The VIN# is stamped on the frame, and is still legible. . . . . read more on eBay.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5500.

This is a project.

“This posting is for a Ford GPW. The frame and body match serial numbers the vehicle had not engine so I got a different GPW engine and had it gone through…

The engine, transmission, transfercase, started, generator, carb, distributor, have all been rebuild by Louie Larson. The engine has been bench ran on a jig he has. The Jeep is in the process of tearing it down for restoration. The body is in decent shape. Many small items are present. There are many extra parts that go with it. I am taking a loss at this price. The engine is an early GPW engine serial # 6622. Frame horns need to be replaced, clear body work that needs to be done but very solid jeep. I bought the Jeep in Colorado Springs.

Engine, trani, transfercase are in Richfield. The Jeepis being stored in a trailer in Burnsville.”

UPDATE:  Price dropped to $700.

(09/05/2012) This was a 1945 GPW, but it now has a CJ-2A body and some other mods, including some Desert Dogs.

“$700 OBO.  The value here is in the parts. It does not run and will take a lot to get it running.
It pretty much needs everything gone through or rebuilt to get it street worthy again.

The Jeep is titled as a 45 Ford Jeep, but it doesn’t look like there is much left of a 45.
Body is 2A, frame is 48 or newer.

This was going to be a project but just too much for me to tackle. The motor has two cylinders that are rusty and I don’t have the
time or resources to pull the motor and rebuild it. There are some good parts on this Jeep that someone will want.

MB Grill
T 84 Transmission (Needs Rebuilt)
WW2 water pump undrilled
WW2 carb (maybe)

Has 5 combat rims, back seat and a few other goodies. There may be an item or two I haven’t taken pictures of a few things such as gastank, spare gas can holder and other parts that go with the GPW. Has a T-90 installed and you can see in the one picture of the skid plate that they dropped the tranny down rather completely cutting up the cowl. UPDATE: **SOLD** Was  on eBay

(05/18/2012) Nice looking jeep though.  There is another rolling chassis behind it, too.

“I have known this jeep since 1971. High school friend of mine drove it when we worked at Kroger’s (1971-1974), he drove it to High School. I rode in this Jeep many times when I was younger. His family owned it from the late 1950’s until my Dad bought it around 1998-2001. Body, motor and all major parts are original to this jeep. My friend’s dad bought it from the WV Dept of Highways Surplus sale in the late 1950’s-early 1960’s and used it on his farm. When he bought it, “Corry Naval Base” was stenciled on the cowl, this is how it was when the State of WV received it after the war. I believe this Naval Base is in Florida(Pensacola I believe). I have receipts of paint and body work alone, that total over $16,000…not counting other work, that was done to the jeep.”

“I have a WW2 1942 Ford GPW for sale. The overall condition is good but this is a restoration vehicle not a turn key. The engine and most other components were rebuilt last year and it was running until recently when the distributor failed. There is a new distributor include with the vehicle and all that remains is for the timing to be set. The vehicle comes with 2 combat rims, a brand new grill, original gauges, and several other restorable parts. There are small spots of rust but nothing that compromises the integrity of the vehicle.

This looks like a great candidate for a restoration.

“This is a 1945 ford gpw military jeep. As far as I know it was only issued to the navy.It belonged to my grandfather who lived in northern Nevada (home of the top gun naval air base) where this jeep spent it’s entire life.It is a dry western vehicle as the pictures show, and has only a few rust-outs along the axe and shovel mounts.this was a radio jeep and so it has a power junction box on the pass. side.Has many accessories intact including: spare tire and mount, jerry can and mount, axe and shovel mount, ball hitch, pintle hitch, antenna power socket, rifle mount tabs,hand-operated windshield wipers, all gauges, data plates and knobs,black-out fender light, original jack, tire iron, and aux.starter crank and tow bar. also there are some new in box spare parts including timing gears and tune up kit.Unfortunately, there is a small crack on the water jacket side of the engine but all other parts of the running gear are good and as the pictures show most of the body including the floors, tool boxes, dash, seats, fenders, and wheel wells are almost immaculate. With a little work this jeep could be show quality. Send message through e-bay or call 1-775-442-0142. Also,I have a friend who is a pro auto shipper and has shipped this jeep before. He is very reasonable and can ship anywhere in the U.S. Thank you for looking!”

1945 GPW Chatham, NJ eBay

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This has a MB block with a GPW head.  It has no title.

“Take a look at this beautiful 1945 Ford GPW, serial number 247613, date of delivery January 1945. This jeep has undergone a frame off restoration and is perfect for parades, re-inactors, and collectors. This started out as a hunting camp jeep rescued from a camp in Gettysburg Pennsylvania two years ago.

It underwent a frame off restoration done by me over the past several months. I have owned over 24 jeeps and have restored about 17 of them, several MB’s, GPW’s and CJ’s have sold successfully on e-Bay.

The frame was in good shape but needed new front frame horns. It had the wrong body on it and the previous owner put in a civilian flat head L-head engine. The body and that engine were removed and a professionally rebuilt MB engine with a GPW head was put into this jeep as well as a new reproduction DL Bensinger Body.

Everything has been gone through on this jeep and everything has been cleaned, repainted, or replaced with new, NOS, or repro parts.

Chassis and Drive Train: All original GPW drive train except the engine block. Tranny, transfer case, axles, leaf springs front and rear – original F-marked GPW. New/rebuilt shackles, new shocks, new axle bumpers, frame stripped and sand blasted repaired front frame horns including gussets, and bumper – the frame horns repaired/welded to repair some 60 years of wear and tear.

Drive train has new u-joints, new clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing, new seals and bearings on tranny and transfer case which were drained and cleaned repainted, and all fluids and gaskets replaced, rebuilt band type e-brake new hardware and band, and cable, new engine/tranny mounts, new brakes including all lines and hoses, new master cylinder, four new wheel cylinders. Rebuilt steering box and drag link with original re-painted steering wheel. New rear bumperettes, original F-marked pintle hook. 4 new 6×16 6 Ply NDT tires on excellent blasted and repainted combat rims. Spare is a few years older NDT on excellent combat rim.

Engine: An original MB engine that was rebuilt by PROMAR engine rebuilders was put into this jeep. Professionally rebuilt W-O carburetor, new fuel pump, rebuilt manifolds and new gaskets, new 12 volt alternator, new coil, new wiring, new battery, new hoses, new belts, new 180 degree t-stat, new temp. gauge, new ammeter, new fuel gauge and sender, new fuel lines, new plugs and wires. Professionally repaired radiator and new cap.

Body: Bensinger MD Juan GPW body kit; new tub, fenders, grille, windshield including new glass, hood, seats, new fuel tank, new top bows, brackets and hardware, new canvas seats and top (Canvas is Beachwood Canvas), repro. shovel and axe, original 1945 dated gas can, repro. water bucket, rebuilt authentic blackout lights, new headlights and tail-lights, repro data plates.

Misc: All new modern electric, all cloth covered wires, all new gauges, all lights, all new switches work properly. Wiring harness and switches modified to work for regular driving and parades and re-inacting – not for 1940’s war conditions.

Vehicle does not have a title. Mileage is not accurate, new speedometer.”
