1960 DJ-3A Pennsylvania **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A, Jeep Rods, Unusual • TAGS: , , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  This now lives on the East Coast. I got to examine it up close at the 2013 Bantam Festival. The work is excellent. It was bought for $9000. It has more of a surrey look to it now.

I used the IMCDb.org site to attempt to locate an image of the jeep to the right from a shot in the movies.  You can see a DJ-3A from Blue Hawaii (not a very good shot). Or the same shot enhanced and cropped to the left.  Here’s a link to a shot of the Nutty Professor’s DJ-3A.

This flat fender (the one on the right) falls into the ‘unusual jeep’ category.  Apparently, it’s a movie star!

UPDATE:  Now listed on Craigslist

(05/12/2010) Dave spotted this Rod.  The auction closed, but here’s some pics and info.  That header doesn’t appear to have a muffler or cap of any kind.

UPDQTE: **SOLD** Was $18,500.

I’ve spent a good chunk of time in Watsonville.  I built a ballet studio there. I actually danced in a Nut Cracker Ballet during that period, too.  That was for ex-wife #2.  Hmmm … Let’s talk about the truck instead …. Here’s a beautiful truck.  Check out the bumper in the last pic.

Aluminum Flattie on Bronco Chassis Prescott, AZ **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, CJ-3A, Jeep Rods, Unusual • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $8500.

Here’s an aluminum flattie body on a modified Ford Bronco chassis.  As I mentioned in a post last week, the vented hoods are very rare.  I’m not sure if that’s aluminum or steel.

“Unique aluminum bodied CJ2 Jeep. This is a professionally built for off road, but very streetable CJ2. It is a real eye catcher. It features a highly modified 1974 Bronco chassis with 4 wheel disc brakes, dual master cylinders, urethane bushings, power steering, trans. cooler, power steering cooler, etc. It sits on, like new, 35X10X15 Goodyears. Power is supplied by a fresh 351w ford with edelbroch manifold and newly rebulit edelbrock 4 barrel, connected to a modified c-4 trans.and headers. It is an older construction, but is done right! I prefer cash, but will consider a trade for a nice cj or wrangler or ? and cash. ”

UPDATE: Was $13,000. **SOLD**

(06/16/2010) Here’s a beautiful truck.  Moreover, this is the truck the previous owner used to tow his 1926 roadster to car shows.

“My father passed away last year, but he left an extensive car collection behind. Up for auction was one of his last projects, a 1948 Willy’s pickup Resto-mod. My dad purchased the pickup about 3 years ago and completed the modifications 3 months after that. He painted the truck with a Satin black finish with hand painted flames. It has 360 C.I. putting out roughly 300 HP with an automatic transmission. The interior has been re-done with new headliner, carpets and seats ( red…see photos ). The gas tank has been modified and sits in a galvanized steel bed.

I am not an expert on this vehicle, but my dad was maticulious about his cars. In the last 6 months we have had to sell most of his car collection. All paperwork and history of vehicle modifications has all been kept on this pickup. Great running daily driver, in fact my dad used to tow his 1926 Roadster to car shows with this truck.”

1948 Truck Burlington, WI **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Jeep Rods, Willys Trucks • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

Here’s a cool, custom 4 door truck.

“What you see here is a 1948 willys crewcab custom conversion, the back doors are suicide mounted. The conversion was done about 10 years ago and has held up very well. The interior has a stock bench rear seat, with a storage well beneath it. The front seats are cavalier buckets(grey) that do not match the buckskin on the rest of the interior. The truck has been on the road for the better part of decade and needs some freshening (to your tastes). The drivetrain is a Fresh rebuilt 454, .030 over with .500 lift cam and big oval heads, has performer intake with new performer carb, headers and a light porting on the heads. This thing is a tourque monster! will burn the tires at will.Tranny is a turbo 350 rebuilt approx. 2000 miles ago with a shift kit and billet internals, transfer case is np205 gear drive with 1350 rear joints, 1310 front joints. Front axle is scout 2 with disk brakes, rear axle is ford 9” 31 spline with spool, both are geared 3.73.Body exterior is painted flat black with a ton of custom pinstriping and paint work, looks like it has been tattooed!Paint is about 5 years old and has some issues (passenger rear door opened up at 60 mph, cracked a little but held up well!) but is still real good looking , especially if you like the rat rod look.Only reason its for sale is to fund a new project.Happy bidding!

UPDATE:  price dropped to $6000

(07/15/2010) This is one of those odd title situations — I can understand on a non op why an owner might delay getting a title, but I don’t understand it on a vehicle that is driven around …

“1960 Willys wagon, 2 wheel drive. Converted to a bone stock Chevy 350 V8, auto trans & Chevy 10 bolt rear end, (not a Mickey Mouse job). Has “I” beam front drop axel, rack & pinion power steering, drum brakes all around, BMW wheels, new tires, tilt front body, new carpet, FM CD player, reverse arched front leaf springs, lowering blocks in rear, surf boards & racks, redwood headliner, dual quiet Flowmaster type mufflers, electric & stock engine fans. no leaks anywhere! From Long Haul Truck to Hot Rod

• CATEGORIES: Features, Jeep Rods This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

So, you have an extra $100,000 and 3000 hours.  What do you with yourself?  Randy Grubb decided he’d build a Hot Rod out of a long haul truck.  Popular Science magazine highlights Randy’s efforts.  Though it has nothing to do with jeeps, I thought it was worth mentioning.

What I really liked was the before and after pics.  In the before pic, you can see how he arranged the parts so he could visualize what he was building.  Any of us who have done projects like this where there aren’t specific instructions/directions can relate.  I can’t tell you how many times I put on and took off the jeep body to make sure it fit in the right spot, not too far forward, not too far back, not to high, was it straight — then stand back and ponder and take a few pics and adjust and ponder …. details, details, details.  It’s all part of the fun :-).

Despite it’s fun design,  this wasn’t just some show vehicle.  When Randy was finished, he drag raced it at 100 mph.  Now that’s a HOT Rod!

I’ve included the before pic (taken by Randy’s wife).  You can see the after pic result and read all about the transformation at Popsci.com.
