1952 M-38 Lake Hefner, OK $1295

Something I’ve never seen: A full-size tool box housed inside the engine compartment. Is the battery inside it?? It’s got a fiberglass body.

“This is worth any Jeep fans consideration. ‘52 Willys Jeep M38, Built March, 1952. This would make a great father-son project.
This Jeep served its late owner very well, taking him well south of Panama and back around 1980. There are several very nice features, including factory optional heater. Roll bar, soft top frame, doors, fiberglass; hood, locking front hubs, and un-installed fiberglass
front fenders. Very nicely done, a very long time ago, there was a ‘60’s GM Iron Duke, 2.5 L 53 CID L4 engine, complete with the alternator and wiring harness, retro-fitted into this appreciating classic. The engine needs at least a rebuild. Brakes and suspension will need servicing. Nice aftermarket turn signal/hazard switch, 7 gauge instrument panel, alloy wheels, good tread on old tires. Stored partially covered for last 35 years. Very little rust, besides the front fenders. I have a current Oklahoma Title and tag in hand.
Priced to sell quickly. $1295 FIRM. $1500 if you want to negotiate”

“I have a 1957 and a 1942 cj2a willys Jeep for sale. Both were running when parked. The 42 has a bent frame that can be fixed or swap the whole thing to another frame. All the body is still solid and fairly straight. The 57 has been sitting up longer. The brakes are locked up and it’s in a little rougher shape. Both have been parked under a tree collecting leaves.”

The seller describes this as a 45 rolling chassis and also as a 1952 CJ-2A. However, the fact that the front frame rails are boxed and the fact that the image of the original rusty frame had hinges suggests that the frame is an M-38 frame.

1952 M-38 Streator, IL … Off Market for Now

• CATEGORIES: M-38 • TAGS: , .

UPDATE: John reports he plans to get a valve repaired. Once that is done he’ll be relisting this for sale again.

This has a PTO gearbox, but I see no sign of a winch or other equipment. Dave suggests it might be the overdrive lever, which seems like a clever idea if that’s the case. It looks in good shape.

1952-m38-streator-il0 1952-m38-streator-il1 1952-m38-streator-il2 1952-m38-streator-il3 1952-m38-streator-il4

“For sale, 1952 M38 jeep. Nine year old frame off restoration. Have all the original receipts from original restoration plus what I have put into it. Engine was rebuilt also. Has minor master cylinder leak (have new one) new brakes in 2018, new water pump in 2019. New rear pinion seal in 2019. Has overdrive. Have some other new steering parts I just haven’t put on. Has been kept in heated garage since I’ve had it and never seen rain. Have some fording parts for air cleaner and exhaust. Has couple typical jeep oil leaks but small.

My knee won’t take the clutch pedal anymore so I’m selling it. Couple of the gauges should be replaced. Located in Streator Illinois. (So now with all that being said , guess what I did? I went to take a compression check on the engine just so I could post it. I haven’t used the compression gauge in 30 some years. The gauge came with a couple of adaptors. I failed to notice that the one on the gauge was longer than the other. I think it was too long and broke a valve spring or bent the valve. It has no compression. The other three have 110 pounds each. This engine probably doesn’t have 3,500 miles on it and I know it’s good, just my dumb not paying attention has messed it up) im willing to take offers as it is but if not I guess I have a winter project)”

1951? Model? Creston, NC $10,000

Listed as a 1951, this jeep has a replacement tub. It does not appear to have an M-38 frame; rather, maybe a CJ-3A frame with the PTO bar removed? This seems to be a mix of parts.

“Jeep has no rust. Is a Navy-issued jeep with plaques. Has granny gear. Needs battery and two new front seats. Call for milage and full VIN number (too long more than 17 characters). Jeep has original toolbox with tools, gas can on rear and full canvas top.”
