Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I am looking to trade my original 1954 willys overland M38A1 military jeep straight across for a pull camper or a rv they both have to be in good shape and the rv must run i need one that will sleep atleast 4 to 5 due to i have a big family when i see it and hear the rv run then i will decide if it’s a deal if you have pics please e-mail them to me the jeep runs it has the original hercules 4cylider motor it’s a 24 volt system so it takes 2 batteries and it’s a push button start on the floor it has a 3 speed tranny and instead of an altinator it has a 28 volt generator all it needs is the brakes worked on and the wiring to the brake lights worked on and a tune up it has no rust on the body or frame the only thing wrong with the body is a dent on the front passenger fender it has new seats and a windsheild.”

“1953 Willys M38 A1 Jeep good running condition”
The Utah Bureau spotted this interesting find. It appears the seller has had to drop the price from the original $4500. It looks like it sports an aftermarket dash. The seller indicates it has been driven little and there’s some ‘project’ involved, however it sure looks good on the outside! It also has on overdrive.

With a $30 rebuild kit and a complete cleaning of the fuel system this jeep will run fine. It has been used primarily as a show vehicle being displayed in various parades and events. (05/23/2010) This M-38A1 looks to be in great shape.

It has the original engine with 24200 miles on it. The engine was rebuilt at 19058 miles. It has a 12-volt system with elec/vacume wipers, army data plates and black-out switches. I located a couple good pics of MOMA’s 1952 M-38A1 which was donated by the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. I would suggest calling ahead to make sure this is still on display if you want to see it. However, the M-38A1 is not the first jeep to be highlighted by MOMA. In September of 1951, the Museum of Modern Art in New York decided to exhibit iconic automobile design as pure elements of art & design. One of the eight vehicles chosen was the M-38, with the description as a “sharply rational vehicle”. You can read more about that at the Jalopy Journal.

This looks pretty nice based on this one pic. The hood looks unusual with the higher than normal ‘scoop’ in the middle.
