<– Day 21 – Saturday May 19th: Mr. Infamous (Alaska Or Rust Presentation)

UPDATE: I’m still sick so no updates. We made it back to Pasco, where we will stay a few days before heading back to Seattle to help with Dad. In the meantime, Luciano updated the video of Hugo below by adding English subtitles for the Portuguese. Enjoy!

Original post November 14, 2018: On Sunday this video debuted at the Premiere Auto Show in Brazil at the Auto Show’s Jeep Booth. It features our good friend and co-Alaska participant Hugo Vidal. It’s mostly in Portuguese, but some is in English. You’ll see both my wife and I appearing in several clips. The title refers to Hugo as the First Citizen of Jeep Nation. Kudos to Luciano Falconi for his great videography.

Hugo also recently published a book on his trip, written in both English and Portuguese. http://www.ewillys.com/…/26/hugo-vidal-has-published-his-b…/

Video — Jeep: The Unstoppable Soldier

• CATEGORIES: Features, videos This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I didn’t get a whole lot done the last few days, as Dad is needing more assistance. No time to do updates for Thursday, but perhaps this 1 hour video from WheelsTV will fill the void. I’ve only seen the first 15 minutes, but it looks promising thus far.

I did spot at least one item that was incorrect. While discussing the first BRC at Holabird, between 15:59 and 16:20 pictures of a BRC-60 are mistakenly shown.

Some of these clips form this four-plus minute 1943 movie are familiar, but the video also offer a wide range of clips I hadn’t seen (that I can remember). There are Bantams BRC-60s, BRC-40s, Ford GPs, Slat Grill MBs, Ford GPAs, and MBs/GPWs.

1942 Willys MB Rebuild Part II

• CATEGORIES: Features, videos This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The is second in the series from Sybert’s Garage. You can view Part I here.

This explanation from Episode 1’s post shares why Tom and his son are rebuilding the jeep:

“My parents have a summer cottage in Northern Wisconsin. Our neighbors, who have passed away with the daughter living there now, had an old MB jeep. It was painted violet because at the time Janet’s dad asked her what color he should paint it as a little girl.

The jeep sat in her garage for years and each time we went to visit we tried to get her started. The mice had made it their home, eating all the electrical wires. The radiator leaked, brakes and clutch did not function and we realized we never had enough time to truly spend on getting her running whenever we visited. We asked for permission to bring her back to our garage in Wisconsin, fix her up and return her to Janet.

Janet’s dad served in WWII in the Army and I know he would be proud to see Janet driving his jeep today.”

Vietnamese M-38/CJ-3A Video

Carl shared the video of what looks to be an M-38 that has multiple mods, including a CJ-3A windshield and an after market dash gauge. However, the body does not have a battery box lid, suggesting it is an after market body. The flat rear wheel wells also raise questions.

UPDATE: As Lew notes, there’s an FC-150 in the latter half of the video. It also has a different license plate (white) than the FC-170 (blue plate) shown near the beginning.

Steve pointed me to his video. It shows a family picking up an FC-170 from the factory. Pretty cool memory!

UPDATE: Part 2 has been published here.

Tom and his son are rebuilding an MB and video documenting their work. They’ve published the first of four parts. Here’s the story behind the jeep:

“My parents have a summer cottage in Northern Wisconsin. Our neighbors, who have passed away with the daughter living there now, had an old MB jeep. It was painted violet because at the time Janet’s dad asked her what color he should paint it as a little girl.

The jeep sat in her garage for years and each time we went to visit we tried to get her started. The mice had made it their home, eating all the electrical wires. UPDATE: Well, there was supposed to be a post above this one (hence the “mutant supersized jeep” comment), but the post scheduler did not automatically post it. That’s a tech fail!

From a mutant supersized jeep, we turn to the Mini FC. Scott reminded me that I hadn’t shared this video of Headquake’s FC-170 RC jeep. A couple years ago I featured another of HQ’s projects, the RC MB. The Yagu, a Tucker-Combat Car-like Vehicle

• CATEGORIES: Features, videos This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

All old is new again? Maury pointed out this vehicle called the YAGU, an Israeli built three-person lightweight, speedy, offroad fighting machine with a gun mounted on the top. Look familiar? Seems like an updated version of the Tucker Tiger Tank, also known as the Tucker Combat Car (see videos below).

yagu

The Tucker Combat Car. First vid is short with sound, the second is a detailed look without sound. One of the innovations the Tucker has that the Yagu doesn’t? All the (very thick) windows are the same size and can be quickly swapped in and out (read more at Hemmings).

Jeep Commercial: 66 Years of fun

• CATEGORIES: videos This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: I ran this post back in 2010. I think it’s time for a repost.

If this commercial played on TV, I must have missed it.

On a tangential note (and a completely skippable one), one of the shots in the movie appears to show Jane Goodall with some chimpanzees.  My tech company did a co-project with her and ESRI (the Microsoft of mapping software) for an ESRI event in San Diego.  Long story short, we had a party after the event and rented a sushi restaurant.  It turns out ..  well … let’s just say she’s not a fan of eating fish (she’s a serious vegetarian I believe).  OOOPPPSS!  I’m not all that sure she really likes people either, but perhaps it was an off day for her (though I ended up sneaking her out of the back of the restaurant; but that’s another story).  So, the tip of the day is, if you invite Jane to dinner, don’t serve Sushi!

Anyway, enjoy the video:
