Mike shared this photo he found on Facebook of the lovely actress Christine Kaufmann on a jeep. She was born in 1945, so I imagine this was from the early to mid 1960s? This also made the rounds on Pinterest, saved by Roberto Flores. Christine would go on to marry Tony Curtis, among others.

Women who just a short while ago thought of a range as something to cook on and powder as something to pat on their faces are now doing the work of men on the firing range at the Army ordnance Department’s proving grounds at Aberdeen, MD. They don’t just fool around with the light work, either. They fill shells with powder and prime them. They run huge cranes to assemble the big guns. UPDATE: Two of these sold in 2014. The last seller mentioned the eyes move back and forth with the jeep. This one sold for $14.50 on eBay.
“WWII ARMY WAAC VALENTINE. 5″X 4″.”
Roberto Flores let me know that British singer Dame Vera Lynn’s birthday was on the 20th of March. She had some experience in jeeps during the war. Given the number of men surrounding her in the jeeps, she was very popular. I particularly like the guy with the hat and mustache in photo 2.
I believe this “I was the one that couldn’t even change a tire” postcard has the WAAC working on a jeep. It’s not one of the better jeep drawings we have seen.

The March 25, 1944, issue of Liberty Magazine has a woman driving a jeep.

This “Orders are to Seize All Reds” postcard is funny.
“For auction is a vintage comic postcard “Orders Are To Seize All Reds” featuring an image of two military men in a jeep. The postcard is also sent by a military officer free of postage dating 1943.”
This photo was published in the August 19, 1942, issue of the Courier-Express. The caption is interesting, in that the woman driver of the jeep had driven ambulances for the Chinese back in 1932!

I stumbled upon a website that celebrates old articles from the town of Walla Walla, Washington, just forty-five minutes east of me. At some point the local newspaper ran a series of articles titled “Heap of the Week”. However, one week they changed the title to “Jeep of the Week”.
Before restoration began on this CJ-3A This has a Blue Star hardtop.

The CJ-3A in the top photo was listed on eWillys back on August 30th, 2012. It looked pretty sound to me, but according to buyer and restorer Scott Mills, a mountain of bondo was underneath the paint. Beautiful work Scott!
He writes, “I found this 49cj3a on your site 2 years ago- after sanding and a little blasting I found that someone used what seemed like 10lbs of body filler and rivets! As many of my purchases go, buyers remorse plagued me for months! Well, I replaced panels and spent hours hammering out the tub. The only splurge was a new hood and stock rims, I managed to save most everything else. My wife has a fashion blog here in Houston and used my Cj3a in this recent post:
Here is the Jeep before I cut out 50% of the tub, it looked great in these photos, little did I know…”

Paul alerted me to this first photo of Movie Star Carole Landis in a jeep. Given the passenger door, I’m wondering if it might have been some type of Holden modified Australian MB?
This first photo is located at a UCLA website. The jeep sure looks similar to a jeep that was for sale in 2010.
She was also photographed in a Ford GP Prototype:
But, she might be most famously connected with jeeps due to her role in the movie Four Jills in a Jeep from 1944. The photo below and the image of the book below that were posted at this website:
Carole even wrote a book about her experience entertaining the troops which was also published under the name Four Jills in a jeep,
Here’s a set of Ford GPs in Burma during WWII. The photo is from the June 08, 1942, issue of Life Magazine. The article, “Flight from Burma” on page 30, is a fascinating tale of the desertion of the Rangoon, as told by George Rodger, the photographer pictured in the photo with the two Ford GPs below.

This photo shows Joan Rogers sitting in the jeep she used to pass a driving test. She found the jeep ‘great fun’. She lived in London during WWII, serving in the Royal Army Pay Corp before being selected for officer training at the Women’s Royal Army Corps. The website TheMemoryProject shares her story of living through the bombing of London.

Marc found this unusual official Navy photo. Besides sporting a lady on the back tire, this jeep has several unusual aspects, such as the front bumper, the odd piece sticking down near the muffler, and the aluminum(?) piece covering the cowl’s side.
