“1952 Willy’s M-38 for sale. It is, as far as I can tell, about 95% original. It does have a snowplow attached to it at the moment, but it’s easy to remove (that’s what the thing is between the seats – it’s the hydraulic motor & valve). It starts and runs – even after sitting for 6 months it’ll fire right up, but the engine probably needs a tune-up. It’s the original Flathead engine. It even has the original title. I think it might even have the original tires. I’d feel comfortable driving it across town, but I’m not sure I’d do it on those tires.

It’s obviously pretty rough, but in decent condition, considering it’s age. I believe I’m the third owner. The last owner had it for about twenty years and only used it for plowing their 1\2 mile long driveway. The rest of the time it stayed in their garage. I planned on either using it to plow or fixing it up and haven’t done either, so I need to get rid of it. The previous owner installed new gauges, a new battery and some other stuff. I have no idea how many actual miles it has on it.”

1947 CJ-2A Aurora, CO $3500

Runs and drives, but no brakes.

1947-cj2a-saurora-c1 1947-cj2a-saurora-c2 1947-cj2a-saurora-co4

“1947 Willys CJ2A Flat Fender Jeep
V8 Chevy Engine conversion, Pertronix ignition, Summit electric choke carb, fenderwell headers, runs well.
35″ tires on true bead lock wheels, also has inner liner for running very low tire pressure.
Drive train is all stock.
Have a Scout 2 front axle assembly and a Chevy 4 speed truck tranny with a granny 1st gear that goes with the Jeep.
Have a 9 slot Military grille that goes with the Willys.
This is a total project vehicle that does run & drive, however the brakes do not work at all and the front tires rub on the leaf springs when turning.
I have too many projects, this is a very cool old Jeep that could be one hell of a four wheeler with some work, the granny 4 speed that goes with it will make it good for rock crawling.
$3,500 or best reasonable offer.
Would possibly trade for a good running performance big block Chevrolet, will trade up or down.”

This has a DJ-3A body and front clip. It may be a DJ-3A chassis, as it appears to have the rear tank in back. So, it may have a DJ-3A that has been converted to 4WD.

“Frame s/n 10248 good condition, no title, no motor, front and rear propelled axles with drive propellers, T90 transmission, model 18 transfer case, shift levers damaged, by previous owner, both cases will need to be gone thru for possible repairs. Body has holes in flooring and in hat channels, but can be readily repaired with just a little mig welding skill. 4 good CJ rims, axles roll easily. Also offering a CJ2A early block, s/n 23555 if not wanted, will deduct 200$ from 800$ total! Block has no cracks, face original never resurfaced, no pitting on head gasket surface area.”

1955 July/August Willys News

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features • TAGS: .

This Willys News issue was memorable for me because when Hugo Vidal was visiting our home from Brazil in 2017, prior to the Alaska trip, I shared some of the Willys News issues with him. He thoroughly enjoyed looking through them because he recognized some of the sales people. When he saw Hickman Price’s photo on the front page, he said, “Oh him, I remember”. That is when I realized that the history I’d collected was a history he’d experienced!

1956 CJ-5 Halls, TN $6800

1956-cj5-hall-tn1 1956-cj5-hall-tn2 1956-cj5-hall-tn3 1956-cj5-hall-tn4

“For sale I have a nice example of a 1956 Willys CJ5. This is running, driving, Jeep that is in good condition for a 64 year old vehicle. It runs, drives, shifts, and stops like an original 1956 CJ5.

The drive train includes the original L134 Willys Hurricane 4 cylinder, original T-90 three speed transmission, original T-18 transfer case (High/Low), Dana 25 front axle, and Dana 44 rear axle. The transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch operates as expected. The front axle has locking hubs. The electrical system has been converted to 12v.

The tub does have rust, some of which has been addressed by a previous owner’s DIY repairs. The rust is primarily in the floor and associated braces. However, this does not affect the drivability.

1948 CJ-2A Fort Oglethorpe, TN $450

Looks like there’s $450 worth of parts here to me. Appears to have a set of Cutlas hubs.

“This Jeep has 7k put into the internal components (transmission was new from Kaiser Willy’s back in 2008, I did each wheel/brakes) jeep wouldnt start 10 years ago and has been sitting since… engine turns over last time I checked a fairly short while ago. I think it was a bad solenoid, since the engine turned freely. I don’t have the funds right now to continue this project, so my loss is your gain.”

“Great Fun! Has been in the family over 40 years. It runs, has full roll bar, front and back towing. 2 sets of tires and rims. It has been kept in storage. My father told me it was a 4 cylinder plymouth engine. It is a 4 wheel 3 speed. It has very low mileage. Enjoyable as it is or easily made to look like new. No cracks in the windshield. The original serial numbers are on the under carriage with the 5 pointed star at the beginning and end of the sequence. It has a clear title and has been put on non-op as I cannot drive it anymore because of numerous back surgeries. I will miss it. I learned to drive on it when I was 9 years old. I hope to find it a good home. Some seal are dry and need greasing. You can make an appt to see it. Contact me through my email.”

1946 VEC CJ-2A Princeton, IN $1800

It’s an early roller.

“Very Early Civilian model CJ2A. If this ad is still up it’s still for sale. Ser#18711, ’46 column shift. The frame, drivetrain, and body have been primered. This jeep does not have an engine. The body has had some bad spots cut out and patch panels made. The panels fit great but are not welded in. You can weld in these panels, or buy reproductions and use them depending on how precise of a restoration you want to do. This is a great restoration candidate, still has the column shifter and transmission. I do have other parts available for this project.”
