Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I’m selling this for my father. it’s a Forward Control 150 front and rear dana 44 axles with factory 5.88 gears, 3 speed manual 4×4 locking front hubs. he bought it to plow and now uses something else so this rare Willys just sits. put a battery in it and a starter and use it as is or restore it or turn it into a trail rig. the cab corners are rotted but if you turn it into a trail rig you’ll want to cut those put to fit bigger tires. these are very rare if you can find one in better shape running and driving with a title buy it but good luck. anyway price is $1500 but may entertain serious offers plow comes with for the right offer. might trade for something 4×4 but other offers considered.”
Has a rear PTO setup. I don’t see a rear gearbox.
“For sale is an early 1949 Willys CJ-3A Jeep. First line of production in 1949. It has the original engine, .030, # 3J20935. Original Transmission, Tranfer Case and PTO, rear drive type, not for forward winch.
There is a body tag; #;19387 on the firewall just below the Serial # tag that was only used on very early production CJ-3A Jeeps.
Engine and maybe transmission will need to be re-built. Radiator looks good. Will have clear title.
This is a restoration project.”

I haven’t had a chance to add posts from the recent few days, but this photo is from the April 1956 issue of Willys News. This CJ-3B certainly has an unusual crew setup!
Most folks don’t remember the movie the Conquerer, starring John Wayne and Susan Hayward. It was a Ghenghis Khan theme-movie, as it was a huge bust. The Conqueror movie was filmed in Utah locations such as Snow Canyon, St. George, Harrisburg, Warner Valley, and Hurricane during a 13-week stretch in 1954-1955 (source).
Unfortunately, what the movie is best known for is the unusually high percentage of deaths of the crew from cancer. The crew used some high powered fans to blow sands to simulate rough conditions. A documentary I watched suggested that disturbing the sand might have exacerbated the potential exposure to radiated materials.

Trader Wooly and the Ghost in the Colonel’s Jeep is one of three books written by Tom Townsend. I’ve not read the book. According to his website, the series is “about army dependents growing up and going to middle school in West Germany. Trader and his friends seem to be getting in and out of trouble a lot. The books are historical fiction full of adventure.”

“For Sale – 1962 Willys 4 wheel drive pick-up. Has a 6 cyl hurricane engine and 3 speed manual transmission. Recent full frame off restoration with new bed. New interior. Almost everything mechanical is new or rebuilt. All original except electric wipers and modern radio/cd. Truck has overdrive, and cruises easily at highway speed. 18,000.”

“1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep and 1964 M416 Trailer with spare tire. I added extra ground straps, new voltage regulator (6 volt), new starter switch installed, new Bendix, has beechwood canvas throughout, has radio antenna mount with antenna. Spare parts included are 2 extra tail lights, B.O. light, ignition wire set, 10 ground straps of various sizes,extra 6-volt battery, fuel filter, 2 extra jerry cans, various books and videos. The trailer has full-size spare tire with cover. Now for the down-side. It needs a new engine. Engine recently seized. Now for the up-side, the jeep is parade ready when running and it has low mileage at 2800. The reason I am selling, I need the space in the garage for a new vehicle. I have photos.”

The Southern Bank of Norfolk in Virginia thought the DJ-3A would make an excellent bank vehicle. Despite being outfitted with special locks and an ‘army-type’ lock box, the dispatcher did not look like a high security bank vehicle. Moreover, the bank might have been smarter not to put the bank’s name on the jeep. I would have liked a picture of the lock box. The article below was published in the June-July 1956 issue of Willys News.
I’ve heard of GIs grabbing distributer parts, but this is the first time I’ve seen a chain used as an anti-theft device.
