1942 GPW Eastern King County, WA $1400

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  Price now $1400.

(01/18/2013) There appears to be some value here.

“1942 Ford GPW, made 9/’42. I’ve had this a number of years thinking I might want to restore or build one more flat fender jeep, but it’s time to move onto other things. I’m selling the last of my jeep stuff as one lot.

TO BE CLEAR. I WILL NOT SELL THE COMBAT RIMS OR ANYTHING ELSE SEPERATELY, ALL OR NOTH42.

The frame is uncut, and straight. The frame horns are in good shape front and rear. The axles look to be the originals. The torq reaction plate is also still there. The front tow bumper is just bolted on, and the frame horns and gussets are OK underneath. It will come with a new repro front bumper also.

The Tub is solid and straight, it’s NOT a perfectly fully restored tub, but the work that was done in its past left it with solid metal floors, solid straight quarters, and tool boxes. good fuel tank well, there is a skim coat of bondo in various places, but it’s a good useable 71 year old tub, and the dash isn’t all hacked up..

The bad news is it’s pretty much a rolling shell, no drivetrain, no title (bill of sale) electrics, etc. . .. It’s how I got it. But if you have a rusty or wrecked donor this would make a restoration or build up much easier.

All the parts included are in the pictures. There are 3 original 16″ combat rims, a good T-90 transmission, 5 gallon fuel cell, good f-134 head and crank, original steering wheel, a good 1945 GPW frame,. . . etc. I HAVE NO OTHER PARTS FOR SALE

$1,400 ………… I would trade for 1958-66 VW bug project, Fiat 124 spider or coupe project, or Diesel or gas powered military generator , working condition (must make both 1 & 3 phase AC 110/220, 10 to 20 KW only) . The type of car I will take in trade is relatively solid and straight, mostly complete, and with a clear title, I am willing to deal with some rust and body damage, dead or alive. NO OTHER TRADES WANTED. . .. . .. . .. . .. . .

Thanks,

Operation Switcheroo … 3

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Hmm … it turns out my default eWillys WP theme was causing some issues. That might just have been the source of a couple problems. Or, I’m just playing whack a mole …. anyhow, I’ll leave up this theme until I fix the other one.

We aren’t too far away (Monday or Tuesday) from being up and running again on a newer, much faster server.  So, why the big delay?

1) SPAM/BOT Traffic: I have reading through log files.  The spam bots/spiders are hitting the site with enough frequency that it is slowing down the site to a crawl (or using up all webhost resources altogether).  I have tried numerous strategies to reduce the strain of these on the webhost, which has helped, but not cured the resource use problem.  Even the back end, which I use to do updates, etc, is nearly unusable due to the busy server.

2) COMMENT SPAM: The amount of comment spam has dramatically increased.  Look at this chart.  It shows approx 3000 spam comments (automated comments that are junk) in September 2012.  By December that number had increased ten fold to 30,000 spam comments.  While there are defenses in place to deal with that, I suspect that is helping cause resource problems as well.

3) SERVER HOSTS: Like Goldilocks, I tried a couple different server hosts (experiences described in posts below). One proved too frustrating, one proved too limiting.  For the third try, I’ve turned to the McDonagh Brothers, web hosts and developers who, as lovers of jeeps, have a bit of self interest in seeing the site succeed.  We should be up and going monday or tuesday.

In the meantime, I’m using Facebook to provide some contact and updates: http://www.facebook.com/pages/EWillys/304123822973935

UPDATE: Still Available

“I have decided to sell my 49 Willys pickup before winter arrives. This little two wheel drive is quite rare and came from Arkansas fairly rust free. We stripped everything down to the frame but did not take the cab off the frame (didn’t have to) and chassis saved the frame. All the mechanicals gone over, new brakes, recored rad, relined gas tank, rebuilt carb and lots of new chrome (front and rear bumper and hood spear ) All new glass from local glass shop and all new rubber for all windows and seals. We pulled the engine (painted head and block) and installed new rings and did lap job on valves. Purrs like a kitten now !!! New clutch and pressure plate with throw out bearing at same time. The king pins and front I beam are great and goes down the road straight as a pin. Brand new 16 inch tires also. Real sharp, professional paint job a couple months ago cost me almost $5000 alone. Professionally recovered original seat also. New aftermarket gauges. We had to put some patches on both floors but were only pin holes to start. Seam sealed patches also. There is very little bondo on this truck !!!!!! There was no rot !!!! Floor start, Interior is all original with the stock door panels, etc. New door handles I could go on and on with all that has been done to this truck. Serious inquires only please, as this is one sharp little truck. It has the three speed on the floor (rare as most were on the column ) I have the original title but not back in my name (haven’t sent in yet) Have another antique plate and title also If interested please email me or you can call me 814-328-2879 This truck and bed and side steps, etc, etc is totally rust free and should not be driven in the winter months. It is THAT nice. It has not been out in the rain since I got it done It’s not perfect, but for someone that really wanted to take it to the next level, you will not find a nicer 49 There is no e-brake hooked up and the heater is not in it (have a nice one to put in that has been recored Please, only serious buyers that really love willys pickups I don’t have internet where I live and have to go to the local library so calling is the best way to reach me thanks.

Operation Switcherooo 2 … in process

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: As part of switcherooo 2 I have decided to do some house cleaning.  Until I make the switch, you can still comment on posts, but you won’t be able to login (there were thousands of spam-created users).

Imagine you have a mechanic that tells you your jeep is tired and worn.  He tells you that it isn’t safe to run at highway speeds. You tell him that you have to drive it at highway speeds to get to work and make money. He says that your jeep can’t do it and you need to upgrade.

Fine, you say.  If I have to ….

He points out some different places you can get a new jeep. However, there’s a catch, he says.  The new jeeps are 5 to 10 times more expensive a month to operate than your current jeep. Of course, you’ve figured as much. But, since you are paying more, you expect you’ll get the features you already have plus some extras, right?

Oh, so naive . . .

As you shop around, you find promise after promise of better features, more speed, great service, easy to use steering wheel, custom body styles and more. It’s like a street in Tijuana with signs, promises, cajoling, and more, as the shop keeps attempt to get you inside.

After walking up and down a street of dealers peddling their jeeps, you spot a dealer who will only charge five times what you currently pay per month.  This particularly dealer, we’ll call him VPS.net, was recommended by your mechanic. VPS.net promises you’ll have so much speed, you can break clear of the Earth’s atmosphere, visit the moon, see the stars, and return in a flash.

Wow.  You get the highways, stars and a moon to boot?  This sounds perfect!  I mean, I don’t mind paying more if I am getting more for my money.

But wait. What is the catch? No catch really, says Mr. VPS.net. You even get to choose the engine you want — Ford, Chevy, BMW, Jeep — We support all the different engines. We walk you through the process of installing them. So easy! We even have lots of happy customers.

You look up the customers online. Yes, they seem happy. One even has a smiling avatar. Wow!  Ok, sign me up.

So, you pay them, decide on a jeep, and pick your engine . You are ready to go. But before you leave the lot, you have to build the engine.  That’s how they save you so much money over the other dealers.  OK, fine. You’ve built an engine before, so you can do it again. But, wow, these engines are getting ever more complicated. After looking through the different engines, you find an engine expert online who recommends a Ford engine when buying a VPS.  Then, you build the engine, fasten the seat belt and  reach down for the transmission to shift it into drive.  Wait, what happened to the gear shift? hmmm . . .

Fortunately, your new jeep dealer was so excited to have you aboard, they have already sent you an email. They say if you need anything, just let us know. So, you respond. You write that you do need some help.  There is a transmission missing. You wait for a response.

But all you hear is crickets, nothing but crickets for two days.

But, that’s ok, because you have been working to install the two transmissions they offered. One was free.  We’ll call that the Chinese transmission. The other was extra. We’ll call that the Russian transmission. You, being cheap, decide to try the free one. After spending several hours trying to install the Chinese transmission, you happen run across a disclaimer on a Chinese website that claims they no longer support Ford Engines.

Well DAMN you say.  With I had known that before I tried to make that tranny work. Fine, I’ll pay extra for the Russian transmission.  However, before you get the transmission out of the box, you see another disclaimer that the Russian transmission doesn’t work at all with the Ford engine.

That’s when you realize, to run the transmission, you will have to completely remove the engine, pick another, and spend/waste a bunch more time trying to make it work.

Yes, that was my day yesterday with my new webhost, or shall I say former webhost. I am now working with a new host that specializes in WordPress sites. I have to say that I am stunned at the lack of graceful and reasonable upgrade paths from a shared hosting environment to a mid-tier hosting environment.

Tuesday at Noon (PST) Operation Switcheroo begins

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

At noon Tuesday I plan to switch to my new server.  If everything goes smoothly, you’ll barely notice any differences.  If, it doesn’t go smoothly, you’ll notice that.

The most difficult issue may be email.  If you need to contact me after Noon my time on monday you can use my d@deilers.com email.  It might not be until Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning for the interwebnetether thingy to direct traffic correctly.

As you can see below, I have a plan all worked out … what could go wrong?

BTW … only a few updates tonight. I had the craziest little spasm in it.  My wife cave me a back relaxer early this morning, after which my cognitive functions rapidly declined for most of the day.  The spasm is gone now, and my brain seems to be functioning better. Note to self … no more muscle relaxers!

1950 Wagon Traverse City, MI **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Willys Wagons • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

“This 50 Willys is an excellent example of an unrestored, well cared for vintage car. I have just replaced the master cylinder and wheel cylinders, so it stops great. This car is all original and runs great with the 4 cyl standard shift. Wide Whites make this car look great. The hood has been painted at some point, but matches quite well. I guessed at the milage, I will have to take a look.

Good old original Willys – Great shape considering the age. This is a rare find in this original condition. Excellent for a frame up restoration, if that is what you want to do. I like em old and patina’d. The hood looks to have been painted at some point, other than that, just well kept old car. Everyone loves a station wagon, I get compliments on it always. The price is obviously negotiable. Make me an offer ! The Willys does have a new master cylinder and wheel cylinders since I purchased it. Runs, drives and now stops very well. Make me an offer, you never know.

Flatfender Goldendale, WA eBay

• CATEGORIES: M-38 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The engine was installed, but hasn’t been started.

” This is my pride and joy for the past couple of years and now am ready to let someone else finish and enjoy. Its a older replacement m38 md Juan tub on a 1962 jeep cj frame and springs. The tub is in good shape with absolutely no rust. It is bare metal throughout and needs paint and possibly some body work depending on what you want to end up. There is a large dent in the cowl but I have a tub with a good section for this repair. The windshield frame is rust free but the tube arms have been removed and flat steel welded in. Its functional but not stock. I have a new windshield gasket and locking strip but no glass. It has newer lift springs with new shackles and bushings. There are fabricated u bolt skid plates installed. The frame has been blasted and powder coated an orange color/light red. It has also been strapped top and bottom and on the sides. This is as bullet proof as a stock frame gets. I installed a rear tank with a new fill hose. It has a disc brake dana 30 front end out of an 1983 jeep cj5. The rear is a 19 spline dana 44 that has had all new bearings and seals. The tires are 33×12.50×15 that are roughly half and the wheels are brand new 15×8 black cragars. The transmission is a t90 and the transfer case is a dana 18 twin stick both of which I rebuilt myself. The seats are out of a newer honda and in decent shape with minor wear on the back. I installed hanging pedals and a tilt column as well. I had the column totally gone through so no slop and it operates like it should. The master cylinder, clutch master and the clutch slave are all brand new. The front calipers and pads are new. It has all new brake lines run and functioning. The engine is a 140 3.0 mercruiser that has been totally rebuilt and never fired. I added power steering and a hei distributor. The carburetor is brand new as well. I have a receipt from the shop that tore the engine down and inspected everything before I installed it.”
