Completely Reconditioned 6 Volt Starter

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Parts

A reader named Mike asked me to post this.

“I have a completely rebuilt a CJ-2A starter. It has a new bendix.  The guts have all been cleaned and turned.  The bushings and brushes have been cleaned.  I even have the new bushing that goes in the bellhousing. Its a 6 volt starter.  It came out of a 1947 CJ-2A.  I put a 12 volt starter in and so do not need it anymore. I invested 150 dollars, so want to get 100 dollars for it.  It’s in excellent condition.”

1946 VEC CJ-2A Wichita, Ks $1900

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: , .

UPDATE:  Price dropped to $1900 without the Hardtop or $2200 with it.  The seller has included the serial number, in the previous AD — #36930.  The engine is seized, but it includes an extra engine.

“I am reposting my CJ2A to see if by chance if there is anyone interested. It is a complete all orignall 46 CJ2A with a hard top. I will sell the 2A less the hard top as I have a buyer for the hard top, but will not let the hard top go until the 2A has a home. The brand on the hard top is Carson Car Craft (built in Oklahoma City). I have an extra engine as the engine in the 2A is locked up. The extra engine is not locked and is rebuildable. I also have all 5 orignal wheels that will also go with the 2A. I have a extra pair of front fenders as part of the deal. I had been asking $2500.00 for the 2A with the hard top, but at this point I would take $2200.00 for the 2A with the hard top or just the 2A less the hard top for $1900.00!! 1946 CJ-2A Redding, Ca $6000

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A

The seller claims it “would not take much” to complete a restoration.  I think that underestimates the amount of work.

“Selling my willy’s Jeep – GREAT HUNTING RIG! Tow bar mounted to new front bumper assembly. Very good condition, would not take much to finish a complete restoration. Have clean title on hand. New upholstery and very clean throughout.  This jeep has 90% of its original parts, original engine converted to 12 volt. Runs good, smokes a little. All running gear works good, the T-90 transmission DOES NOT slip out of second gear which is common for these jeeps. Very little rust for its age. Steps still will hold weight. No holes in floor boards. Great jeep to drive now or to continue to restore. All lights work including dash lights.  INCLUDED: another full complete engine and another long-block to use as a core as well, 2 extra fenders, 1 extra hood, another windshield assembly and 4 more tires/rims.
Any questions please ask, call rather than e-mail: (530) 244-7167. Serious buyers only, sold as is. Thanks.”

1942_mb_wallawallaUPDATE:  Price dropped to $1500

(06/08/09) This is an MB mixed with an 80’s Toyota of some type?

“1942 Willys with Toyota running gear (Engine a 22R, 4 speed manual tranny, tranfer case and axles are all out of an ealry 80’s Toyota). Tires are 38 inch Gumbo Monster Mudders Radials, siped with 60-70% tread left. This rig is open front and rear with stock gears and keeps up with fully locked, re-geared rigs. It is a pure mountain machine, its light, very flexy and extremely capable in mud and snow. I would consider selling the jeep for less without the tires but will not sell the tires without the jeep.”

Builds: Steve saves a M-38

• CATEGORIES: Builds

Steve tells me he spotted this M-38 on eWillys and decided to purchase it last July.  On the right you can see the ‘before’ condition which is how Steve purchased it, but I think it pretty much tells the story.  There was a bunch of metal welded onto the jeep in odd places and it was red, everywhere.

As you can see in the pics below, just taking off the metal and painting it green has done wonders for this old M-38.

1951 M-38 Boise, Id **SOLD**?

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3A, M-38

sheep_wagonsUPDATE: I dropped by the seller’s house today to check this jeep out.  Kim’s father is the actual seller and Kim is selling it for him. Both father and son rebuild wagon’s, with Kim specializing in Sheep Wagons (see pic to the right).  I suspect the large Basque population in southern Idaho (5th largest community of Basques in the world) fosters this unusual hobby (at least I’ve never seen these anywhere else).

As for the jeep, it turns out to be a pretty stock M-38 that runs.  It’s got some rough edges and needs some paint.  It’s got the dual battery setup.  It could use new seat covers and a new gas tank and a few other items.  A professional mechanic has done some work on it and can provide more specific information.

Builds: Trevor’s Old School CJ-2A

• CATEGORIES: Builds • TAGS: .

I gotta say I like this jeep.  There’s enough old school stuff to make me smile.  Check out the battery, the roll cage, the art on the back, the dashboard, the gauges, the gas pedal … I could go on.

The owner of this jeep is 16 year old Trevor, who inherited it from his father.  Trevor’s going to make some updates to this jeep, such as adding power steering.  He asked for some advice regarding steering so naturally I asked for pictures.

Trevor wrote, “thanks so much for your time and advice! it really means a lot to me cause i wanna get this thing out on the trails like my dad did back in day.”
