1948 CJ-2A Grand Junction, Co **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A

UPDATE:  Was on eBay. **SOLD**

This looks like a nicely, pretty original CJ-2A. The desert has likely helped preserve it.

“I don’t know a lot about this vehicle. An elderly lady I know wants to sell it. It belonged to her and her husband. The Jeep comes with a front tow bar and a back seat. It does run, however there is a short in the electrical system that keeps draining the battery. The jeep says it has 20182 miles on it, however the lady who owns it says she thinks the speedometer has rolled over a time or two. If you need further details, please email me and I will try to answer your questions as best as possible.”

My Build — Front Turn Signals, an Update

• CATEGORIES: Biscuit

A local reader named Joshua responded to my question about front turn signals, writing that he had a pair of lights I might find interesting.  I ran over yesterday to take a look at them.  Apparently, someone had mounted them onto a GPW grille, clearly a place they didn’t belong. Since Joshua didn’t have any use for them, he kindly offered them to me for free (Thanks!).

I took the lights home and took them apart.  The beehive cones are glass, are in perfect shape, and cleaned up nicely.  Unfortunately, the bezels are just rough enough that I don’t think I can use them; however, the bezels did have an autolamp UN67 stamp on them.  Here’s an example of the glass on the grille, though I didn’t have the bezel in this example.  The look is exactly what I wanted 🙂

I plugged the Autolamp model number into google and found the Taillightking website, a detailed older light website run by A. J. Phillips. Using the website, I not only found an example of a UN67 bezel, but also discovered a SL49 bezel that’s more like what I’m looking for (it appears a little shorter than the other).  Unfortunately, both of these have been sold.  According to what I can glean from the taillightking website, they were used either as rear lights or interior lights for Chevelles (year unknown). I suspect they were used on other vehicles as well.

Autolamp UN67 in Excellent Shape

Autolamp SL49 in Excellent Shape

While I might not have the bezels I need yet, I do have the lights and light assembly (the old wiring assembly was a single filament, rather than the dual filament for parking and turn lights).  I took apart some extra towing lights I have and clipped out the wiring and bulb holder.  I had to enlarge the grille hole slightly to fit the bulb assembly, but that was easy to do.  The below image shows the roughed out assembly in the back of the grille.  I’ll need to add a hole to the metal tab that will hold the assembly in place.

Now, all I have to do is find two bezels and I’m set.

1946 VEC CJ-2A Hudsonville, MI **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: , .

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $850.

I’m guessing the pictures don’t do this jeep justice?  Only $850?  I don’t see any duct tape or baling wire, so it must be worth at least a $1000?  Definitely worth a look.

“This is a 1946 cj2a willys jeep. it runs, drives, and the brakes work. the body is in pretty rough shape. I would say that from the windshield back it is shot, but im also not a body guy. the motor runs good, smokes alot. the drivetrain is in great shape 4×4 high and low works. the frame looks very solid, i didnt notice any rusty sections. i dont want to try to fool anyone, this jeep needs some work. it is drivable as is but needs some tlc. i have too many projects and need to sell this one unfortunately. im asking 850 obo. “

Preproduction Civilian Jeeps — A Great Book!

• CATEGORIES: Books, Features

After reading the book review about “Preproduction Civilian Jeeps” from Jim Allen on Derek Redmond’s CJ-3B site (scroll to mid-page), I decided to purchase the book.  While I’m hesitant about purchasing jeep books, due to the fact that the images are often reprints of images I’ve already seen or that the text isn’t all that informative, Jim’s review intrigued me enough to spur me to action.

Thankfully, I was extremely happy with the book I received.  Frederic Coldwell’s Preproduction Civilian Jeeps manages to avoid the traps I mention above, producing a text that’s rich in information, details and images that are both unique and investigative.   In fact, the book is down right humbling.  I thought I knew jeeps pretty well, but reading this book taught me what I didn’t know about what I didn’t know.

Though each chapter is full of information, I think my favorite chapter was the final one, where Fred reveals how photographs have been altered by marketing staffs during the 40s so that the jeep that’s pictured in the photograph looks more like the Willys being sold to the public.   In some ways it’s a test; by the final chapter, has the reader learned enough to tell what the marketing department did to change the original images and why they did it?

I’m thinking I will paint in white ‘X2008’ on the rear bumper.  Read the book to learn why 🙂

1956 CJ-3B Charlotte, NC $6500

The windshield looks a little unusual on this CJ-3B.  It appears to be well maintained.

“This is a 1956 jeep willys cj3b, it has a F-head 134 engine, T90 tansmission(3spd, 4wd works like a champ, superwinch hubs. dana44 rear axle, exterior recently painted and has a bedliner coating in the back as well as the front of the interior of the tub…. Its missing two guages and needs a little bit of wiring but its a nice jeep for someone to tinker with but it is a blast to drive, the serial number is 32720 and in doing some research I found out that this jeep came from the west coast which explains why it has very minimal rust.”

New: A Collection of eBay results for 1/4 ton flat fenders …

• CATEGORIES: News

Last month I happened upon the fcConnection ebay auction results.  I thought that was a great idea, so I thought I’d add something similar.  It took me a while to get around to building it, but here it is http://www.ewillys.com/?page_id=2480. The main menu above now contains an “ebay results” link as well.

My goal is to develop a database of prices just to see what kind of prices sellers are getting on ebay, which are stats I haven’t followed much.  I will be focusing on the 1/4 ton flat fenders (Models: MB, GPW, CJ-2, CJ-2A, CJ-3A, M-38, CJ-3B, DJ-3A).

To get my information, I’m using the eBay watch system to keep tabs on flat fender auctions.  When an auction concludes, I’ll post it.

This is a stock looking CJ-2A in great shape.

I am selling this Jeep for my 80 year old father. No one drives it any more so it needs to go to a new home. I would consider this in good condition, runs and drives nice. Two owners since new. 55,452 miles and all original except the chrome wheels are off a IH Scout and are a little rusty. Also a little rust under the cluch pedal. Motor overhauled less than 100 miles ago.”

1942 MB Holden, Mo eBay

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB), MB

This MB looks like a play jeep.  It does not appear to be licensed.  I wonder if the stock axles were upgraded.  I’d think that power and those tires would be hard on stock MB axles.

“I’VE OWNED LOTS OF JEEPS IN THE PAST, BUT THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE IN THE PAST I’VE TURNED DOWN NUMEROUS OFFERS TO SELL IT BUT COULD NOT PART WITH IT. WILLY HAS A 283 CHEVY V-8 RUNS SMOOTH, QUIET,AND COOL. IT HAS HEADERS AND GLASS PACKS AND SOUNDS LIKE A V-8 SHOULD. IT HAS A 350 TURBO TRANSMISSION WHICH HAS BEEN REBUILT AND IS A STOCK TRANNY. THE REST OF THE DRIVE TRAIN IS STOCK I THINK? WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE 4X4 LOCK OUT HUBS. FOR ADDED DRIVE ABILITY I’VE ADDED A STEERING BOX WITH A GM POWER STEERING PUMP WHICH MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE IN MANEUVERING THE 31 X15 GOODYEAR TERRA TIRES ON 14 INCH WIDE STEEL RIMS.”
