1945_mb_gilroy2UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $8500

“For auction is this 1945 Willys MB, it runs and drives great. I acquired this jeep about 2 years ago from a gentleman in town who had it for years. I thought at the time I would do a thorough restoration, but unfortunately I have alot on my plate and no time  to invest in this task. Overall this jeep is in wonderful condition, engine is extremely strong as well as drive train, there are no rust issues to speak of, body is in super good shape, tires are basically new, seat cushions are new, also equipped with a PTO driven winch in working condition. To put it simply if you’re looking for a good, solid, very clean MB here you go. It’s not a text book restoration by any means however it represents itself extremely well and if so inclined you could finish to whatever degree.”

1947 CJ-2A Mills, Wy **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

“Total custom frame up built willys.  I built it for the rocks.  Started by building a brand new frame modeled after the original.  Full rectangular tubing.  Every seam is reinforced.  The designed my own 3 link long arm suspension.  Front has 16″ travel 2.0 Fox air shocks.  Rear is TJ coil springs with Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks.  Then narrowed a dana 44 for the front and a 12 bolt for the rear.  Had custom shafts built by Dutchman Motorsports.  Mounted a small block 350 fallowed by a turbo 350 trans.  Rebuilt and upgraded the original spicer/dana 18 transfer case with a hardened intermediate shaft and modified it to run 2low.  Custom drivelines.  Radiator is mounted in rear.  Ran outta room in engine bay and didn’t want to hack up the firewall to move the engine back.  Used a 7.5 gallon pony keg for a fuel cell…”

1958 FC-170 Fort Worth, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: FC150-FC170-M677

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

It starts, but sounds like it hasn’t been driven. The seller has listed a number of specifics so check out the website for more info.

“THE FOLLOWING IS MY STORY WITH THIS VEHICLE:  This FC-170 Jeep was purchased three years ago from a neighbor that has since passed away.  He was an engineer and this vehicle was his baby, he kept it up-to-date in many respects.  He also used it for many years as a working truck and parked it under an overhang and sometimes under a big oak tree.  It had a toolbox bed, but I removed it.  I bought it with the intent of restoring it, but have I not had the time or the money—my loss may be your gain.  Based on all the FC-170s that I have seen for the last couple of years, this one is in good shape.  The following is what I have done to it (very little besides admire it and dream of rebuilding it) …”

I included the pic below because it is a good look at how the tranny and transfercase were adapted to work in the FC.

1950 CJ-3A Weldona, Co eBay … “Nursey”

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3A

This is Nursey.  She has a few bumps and rough spots, but might make a nice little run about jeep.

“This little gem has been in our family for about 30 years.  Originally bought by my father who had a private hunting ranch in the Northern Colorado mountains.  He purchased it to help climb off road and retrieve their game. He was able to drive it everywhere, no matter what the terrain.  Because it is white, it acquired the nickname of “Nursey” because it always turned out to be just what the doctor ordered.  It proved itself as a real lifesaver over and over. My father became ill and had to move out of Colorado due to the high altitude.  He had to sell his ranch and all the toys, that is when I decided I wanted to buy it because I had recently re-located to the NE Plains of Colorado, and I never had as much fun as I had when I was chasing cows in the pasture with it. My husband and I have owned it since 1996. Now it needs restoration. We had the engine completely rebuilt and it only has about 500 miles on it.  It has the original engine and drivetrain, and everything works.  Runs like a watch, except the motor needs a new water pump…..”

UPDATE 2:  I stopped to checked this jeep out on my way home this evening.  There are corner post holder holes (it’s too late for me to remember what the correct term is) on the rear corners, so I can’t help think the body is a CJ-2A.  Though not perfectly straight, the body appears rust free.  I saw no rust underneath along the hat channels either.  The Data Plate looks brand new.

PNW4WDA Summer Convention Starts Today

• CATEGORIES: News

summer_convention_tshirt2009The Pacific Northwest 4WD Association’s Summer Convention starts today.  I had hoped to go as it is the Carter’s (long time family friends and jeep cohorts) 40th anniversary of their first summer convention back in 1969.  I think I was there too, which would make it my 40th anniversary as well, because I think it was a Wandering Willys Club Event if I remember what my father told me correctly, however I was only four, so don’t remember a thing.

There will racing all weekend, including barrels, drags, team relay, obstacle course, cross country course, and something called a side by side (?), but I haven’t figured out what the heck that is.  So, if someone could explain that to me, I’d appreciate it.  Thanks!

It runs from the today through Sunday at the Straddleline ORV park near Olympia, Washington.

The White Mice

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, MB

This excerpt is from an article title White Mice, which is about policing European highways during and after the war.  Included is a MB painted in the distinctive colors:  White vehicle with a black hood.  If you go to the website article,  you will see a variety of cars with this motif.  This would make an unusual restoration project.

The 62nd Military Police Company was created on November 30, 1943 and activated in North Africa a day later. Originally, it was a standard combat MP unit, and participated in the campaigns in France, the Rhineland and Ardennes-Alsace. Following the end of the war, the unit was reorganized twice, first as the 62nd Military Police Service Company in June 1948 and then as the 62nd Military Police Highway Patrol Company on September 20, 1951, when it was reattached to the regular Army forces occupying American Zone of Germany.

Corporal Edward Olson in a Highway Patrol Willys MB. Note the permanent roof and the large combination siren-warning light on the fender.

Unlike standard military police units, the Highway Patrol was created not only to enforce laws and regulations, but to handle other duties typically handled by civilian police agencies. These included assisting motorists and promoting traffic safety. On a given day, a trooper might work traffic, investigate a crime, or perform escort duty for a convoy. Or all three, just like his civilian counterpart.”
