1953 CJ-3B Rockville, MD **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

This is a good looking CJ-3B. The seller provides a nicely detailed description.  The drain holes have been filled in.

“Here is a very nice 1953 Willys CJ-3B that is roadworthy.  I run errands in it frequently.  I have the title in my name so no drama there.  The Jeep is still mostly original with the Hurricane engine and T-90 transmission, both of which work great. The engine starts right up hot or cold, no smoke and is very smooth. I’ve had the Jeep for two years, and from what I’ve been told by the previous owner, the Jeep was totally refurbished 12 years ago. I have no reason to doubt that. The paint still has some shine but there are some surface rust spots. There is also rust on the drivers side support for the fender. Also some rust on a cross member under the tub near the rear wheel wells. Since I’m in the disclosing mode, the only gauges that are hooked up are the temperature gauge and the oil pressure gauge. The odometer works but the speedometer has a broken needle. The ampere meter and the gas gauge are not hooked up and will be good things for a “to do” list. The seats are not original and in pretty bad shape under the seat covers, but they look okay. The emergency brake cable needs to be replaced….”

This has an unusual roof/roll bar.  It appears there’s some rust near the driver’s side drain hole. Otherwise, it looks pretty solid.

WWII Braden J2-134 Capstan Winch **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

Josh is auctioning this nicely restored Capstan Winch on eBay.

He writes, “You are bidding on a WW2 BRADEN J2-134 CAPSTAN WINCH for the WW2 Ford GPW, GPA, Willys MB and Weasel.     This auction is for the head unit as pictured and the Portrayal Press Capstan Winch manual. The winch is the correct war period model with the four cap screws in the head.  The winch has been been sandblasted, cleaned, and painted with TM9 Ordnance Red oxide epoxy primer and TM9 lusterless Olive Drab shade #6. In the preservation of this winch I did create a custom gasket for the oil sump and will include the broken original with the sale. I also fabricated a new top cover and will also include the damage original.  As you can see in the pictures the gears all look fantastic and the winch turns easily and smoothly as it should. All oil pan bolts are marked RA. The only negative things I can say about the winch are that the oil pan has a couple of dents (they could be worked out) and the area around the bottom drain plug has been brazed at one time. The drain plug does still function and the repair doesn’t appear to leak. Both of these imperfections will not easily be visible when mounted.”

Tucker #57 — The Tucker Convertible

• CATEGORIES: Features

Long time readers know that ever since seeing the movie Tucker: The Man and His Dream I’ve been a fan of the Tucker automobile.  What I didn’t know was that in early January of 2010 a Tucker Convertible was finally completed after years of sitting as a pile of parts.  It turns out there was plenty of controversy surrounding this convertible, specifically was it really a Tucker or simply a Tucker look-a-like built from left over parts. You can read some history of the Tucker and the Convertible here.

Well, after much discussion, enough information has been unearthed to assure most people (can’t make everyone happy) that Tucker had been working on a convertible when the company was forced into bankruptcy and was labeled Tucker #57.  Though it took multiple people and 60 years,  Benchmark Classics, near Madison, Wi (a place I used to call home) finally has put this beauty together (restoration images).

1949 CJ-2A Austin, TX **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4000

(11/18/09) The Vin number would make this produced in 1948. This looks like a nice rebuilt.

I am selling my CJ2A. This has been recently restored. Body was removed and repainted. Color is maroon. Black undercoat on the body to help prevent rust. Restoration did not include mechanical. Vehicle had a partial 12V conversion when I got it. It now has all new wiring. All lights work. Added turn signals and brake lights. Horn works. Starter is 12V. It uses a borg warner 6V coil; but could easily be changed to 12V coil. Jeep would be street legal if you add the windshield; the seals for the windshield are included in sale. It didn’t need the motor or drivetrain rebuilt. Although I did paint the engine and rebuild the carburator. New gauges except for speedo.”

A Willys of Frankenstinian Proportions $1500 (OD)

• CATEGORIES: Features, GPW (Ford MB), Unusual • TAGS: .

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.

On a trip to Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho, Dan discovered this unusual project.   Underneath all the modifications is a 1943 GPW.  What’s amazing to me is that, all things considered, it doesn’t look all that bad.  Someone certainly cobbled together a variety of vehicles, along with a healthy supply of diamond plating to keep this vehicle on the road.  No doubt it was better than sporting a soft top in cold weather.

1950s_cj3a_knottsberryfarmUPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3500.

(10/26/09) I’m guessing it’s a CJ-3A, however the body appears to have a solid back, so it might be a DJ-3A body?  The seller has included a long description.

“This is a 1940 or early 50’s Jeep Willys. I’m not sure because this jeep is registered as a 1967 due to the year of the motor. The motor is a Chevy 283 V8 from a 67’ Chevelle. This Jeep is full of goodies and will always be smog exempt ”
