1942 MB Frenso, Ca $2500

UPDATE: Dexter was correct … this sports a slat grille.  He also provided some additional info and a pic.

The seller sent the following to Dexter: “This jeep was purchased from cousin in Idaho seven years ago. • It’s been sitting outside, covered, for the past year • The frame number is II3056 [Dexter comment: I see a dash before the 3, but the folks at G503 tell me it’s the 13,506th slattie made] • No glovebox type, with no data plates on the dash • Cousin, Bubba, removed the entire back (With the original WILLYS stamp!), and replaced it with sheet metal • It has body lift • Gas tank moved to the rear seat • He doesn’t want to get rid of it, but his wife has spoken.  The block is cracked.

“This is a 1942 willys jeep in fairly good condition…..the motor in it has a cracked block. it runs but bubbles in the radiator. I have the original flat head four cylinder motor that was smoking when removed probably bad rings. This jeep has been sitting for a while but DMV is current non-op. call anthony at 593-5074 if interested.”

Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art’s 1952 M-38A1

• CATEGORIES: M-38A1, Museums • TAGS: , .

I located a couple good pics of MOMA’s 1952 M-38A1 which was donated by the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. I would suggest calling ahead to make sure this is still on display if you want to see it.  However, the M-38A1 is not the first jeep to be highlighted by MOMA.  In September of 1951, the Museum of Modern Art in New York decided to exhibit iconic automobile design as pure elements of art & design.  One of the eight vehicles chosen was the M-38, with the description as a “sharply rational vehicle”.  You can read more about that at the Jalopy Journal.

This pic is from a snapper of of NYC images for the NYCPIX blog.  There are some good, everyday sort of pics.  If you’ve spent time in NY, you’ll enjoy this site.

This photo is also from a NYC image blog.

Santa favors the Willys MA over the Red Sleigh

UPDATE:  Brendan noted that this is indeed a LOC image. Here is a link to this image and others

I suspect it was just easier to stick the tree in the MA rather than his sleigh?  It’s a great pic.  I found this during an image search, but I could not locate the source.  It looks like a Library of Congress type of image.  If anyone knows of the source, please let me know so I can properly credit it.

(07/02/2010) This looks nice.  The seller suggests this is in show quality condition.  If the restoration really is that nice, this might be a good price.

This runs.  It looks like a good wind would blow the paint right off of this.

“This is a nice little Flat Fender CJ. Someone went through the running gear a few years ago and it was on the road. It runs good, just put a new battery and fuel pump in it. Brakes are good and I think it will pass inspection as is. The body need some patches. The Plow Hoist in the photo does not come with it.”

1957 FC-150 Mount Vernon, Wa eBay

This looks great.

“Wow…’s a very rare and very unique piece of American Automotive History!!!! 1957 Jeep FC-150 4×4 Pickup. This gem is a well-preserved, 2-owner, ultra-low-mile vehicle fresh out of a private collection, available here to the general public for the first time since in was new!!!  The original owner of more than 50 years lived in a remote area of the Northwest and owned 2 vehicles…… air-conditioned Cadillac and, you guessed it, this 1957 Jeep Pickup that he special-ordered and bought brand new. One vehicle he used for his weekly commute to town in the summer, the other, in winter. The Jeep lived a privileged life, clocking just a tad over 13K original miles on the odometer!!!!!! The truck has been regularly maintained over its entire life, and looks, runs and drives great. The Hurricane 4-cylinder motor starts easy and runs like a watch. It is easy to drive, feels safe and secure and the cab-forward design gives the driver great visibility and excellent maneuverability. A very rare, very collectible vehicle……and a very rare opportunity……don’t miss out!!! Call today! Tel: 360-416-4995 …”

1962 CJ-5 “Yolanda” Fort Worth, TX **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

The seller notes the paint job fits the jeeps name “Yolanda” (apparently, it is a long story … lol)

“1962 Willys Jeep.  Starts and runs as-is.  Recent work includes new clutch, rebuilt carburetor, new mud grip tires on five original wheels that have been sandblasted, primed and painted.  New seat frames have been fabricated, one additional passenger seat frame included.  Good compressions on all cylinders.  Transfer case shift mechanism is tight and hard to shift; needs work.  Includes original front bumper wench.  Windshield and spare tire rack included (not shown) I rate this Jeep as a good restoration candidate; I just don’t have the time or motivation to rebuild it.  Custom paint suits her name “Yolonda” (it’s a long story).  She needs a good home and significant TLC.”

1956 CJ-3B Fire Jeep — Blandford & Area Fire Rescue, NS, Canada

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles • TAGS: .

In 1965, this jeep was donated by the Hubbards Fire Department to a sub-department volunteer fire unit call the Blandford & Area Fire Rescue Unit, located on the southwest side of the Aspotogan Peninsula, Luenburg Co, Nova Scotia, Canada, at 30 Fire Hall Rd. I wish there were more pics!

From the website, “The first fire truck was a 1956 Willys Jeep, donated by the Hubbards Fire Department.  Due to its limited water tank capacity of 200 gallons, a water tanker was also needed.    A 1947 Ford with an oil tank was added to the fleet before year end, this also being donated from the Hubbards department.  Records show that a new portable pump was purchased for $600.95 with monies raised by door to door canvassing, raffles, and bake sales.  Additional equipment was purchased to outfit the new department and to make modifications to the old school house building to house the “new” trucks.  With the support of a community, the men of the department answered a total of eight alarms their first year, all of which were fires.”

Malabar Farm’s CJ-2A in Lucas, Ohio

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Museums • TAGS: , .

Bob forwarded me a pic of a CJ-2A from the Malabar Farm Historic Landmark in the Ohio State Park System for the museum series.

Bob wrote, “Here’s a shot of the Jeep they have down at Malabar Farm near Mansfield, Ohio. Every Sept there is a small gathering of Jeeps there. Louis Bromfield, the property’s former owner, had several Jeeps on the farm during his lifetime. He used them to get around the farm, along with his dog, to supervise farm operations. As a side note, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married in the main house on the farm on May 21, 1945.”

1942 Slat Grille MB Lodi, Ca **SOLD**

“The Jeep runs great. I’ve had this for several months, and it was (and is), a fun little toy to drive — definitely a head-turner! Just a few days ago, the Jeep experienced a problem of getting out of 1st gear. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I’m not a mechanic, so I had a someone do a visual inspection, and he informed me that the transmission will need to be dropped and checked out.”

Below are the pics at the time of sale.  You can see some pics from when this flattie was first purchased a few months earlier here.

Year? CJ-5 Lehi, Ut $1000

This is another find by the Utah eWillys Bureau (read Brett..) This includes a PTO (probably for a winch).  It looks pretty good for the price.  It would not take much to slip a different rear end under there and make this a driver.

I’ve had it street legal for the past couple years and almost always drove it around with the wind shield down and never gotten stopped. It runs good and 4 wheel drive works, I put a new clutch in that I would guess has less then 100 miles on it. BAD NEWS: Last year The rear differential went out and locked up the tires… so will need too be trailered home.  It will need a new ring and pinion, brand new they run around 200$ or if you find another dana 44 someplace for less you could just swap out the hole rear axle and be on your way… I’m asking 1000.00 Call or text anytime. If I don’t answer leave a message. Will consider all trades, could use camera gear or auto shop tools …”

1956 CJ-5 Ogden, Ut $1700

Brett spotted what appears to be a good deal on a CJ-5. Lots of pics provided as well.  It’s not perfect, but good for the price.  This sports the early CJ-5 reversed front springs.

“1956 Willys jeep for sale. Great little CJ 5, would make a fun project for father and son. Good hunting vehicle or summer cruiser. The jeep is far from perfect and needs some TLC. The jeep runs but needs a new battery and tires. I purchased new front and rear seats and also lined the interior. Due to the age of the jeep it does not need to pass emmissons test. I have children playing Comp soccer so that is where my time and money go…my loss is your gain. It has no hard top and comes as is….No reasonable offer will be refused.”

1962 Wagon Portland, OR **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Willys Wagons • TAGS: , .

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

This is a nice looking Wagon.  There are a few very minor issues with it.

“I bought this all original wagon in 2004 from about five years ago.  When I bought the wagon it was advertised as having a “freshly rebuilt Hurricane 6 engine” and I am the third owner.

It is a very fun and wonderful wagon.  The color combination of gold (khaki) and president red (an original Willy’s color) are a stunning combination.  I get comments on it all of the time.  The other day I drove it to work (four miles from my house) and I got two thumbs up on the freeway and a “shout out” from a young lady who professed love for my Willy’s!  This happens all of the time.

I will, occasionally, rent my cars out for advertising photo shoots.  This past fall Lands End used my wagon for the cover page of their nationally distributed Christmas catalog.  I am told Lands End received a lot of inquiries about the Willy’s itself and if it was for sale….”

1960 CJ-5 Littleton, CO **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.

This hasn’t been started in four years.

“This is a fun jeep. My father actually left it to my son 8 years ago (when he was 8) and we spent some time and money making it road worthy. We put new springs, shackles, shocks, wiring harness, carburetor, and tires back in 2003 or 2004. I drove it to and from work many times back then. It does have rust, mostly in the floor pan but there is some on the wheel wells and body also. It hasn’t been started in over 4 years so you will need to tow it away and spend a couple hours with it and it does actually have a tow bar. My son is now 16 and has no time and no desire to get it running again and make it his primary transportation. Email me and ask for more pictures, we took a couple dozen with close ups so you can see all the good and bad before driving out to SW Littleton to buy it. ”

1961 Wagon Lakewood, Ca $6,000

• CATEGORIES: Jeep Rods, Willys Wagons • TAGS: .

UPDATE:  price dropped to $6000

(07/15/2010) This is one of those odd title situations — I can understand on a non op why an owner might delay getting a title, but I don’t understand it on a vehicle that is driven around …

“1960 Willys wagon, 2 wheel drive. Converted to a bone stock Chevy 350 V8, auto trans & Chevy 10 bolt rear end, (not a Mickey Mouse job). Has “I” beam front drop axel, rack & pinion power steering, drum brakes all around, BMW wheels, new tires, tilt front body, new carpet, FM CD player, reverse arched front leaf springs, lowering blocks in rear, surf boards & racks, redwood headliner, dual quiet Flowmaster type mufflers, electric & stock engine fans. no leaks anywhere! Temp does not get above 160. Runs like a champ! This is NOT a show car, but what a blast to drive! I have the title, but it is still in previous owners name. It has been signed off and I have bill of sale from him. I will also give bill of sale. Tags good through Oct. Question? Please ask! ….. Please email me through Craigslist or @ I will get back with you as soon as I can. ..Located in Lakewood, Ca. 90715. Thanks”
