Roberto Flores, Illustrator Extraordinaire

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Comics, Features • TAGS: .

If you are a regular reader of the CJ-3B page, you have likely seen Roberto’s drawings and maybe saw his CJ-3B, too.  At you’ll see his work at the top left.  If you haven’t, I’ve add a few images of his drawings and his jeeps below for your enjoyment.  You can find Roberto in a variety of places on the internet, including his own website, his blog, another blog and online store.  He lives in Spain, but I think is recognized, at least by old school Willys lovers, world-wide.  Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!

Here’s some pics of Roberto’s CJ-3B and I believe that’s his CJ-3A (I didn’t get any info on that)?

Here are some of Roberto’s drawings.

The first is a comic for “4×4 Story Magazine Spécial Jeep” issue 26, Mai-Juin 2009.  It is a French bimonthly magazine, based on the adventures of collectors and restorers of jeeps. Original size, 21 cms. x 14,8 cms.

This is a commissioned drawing ordered cartoon for a French customer, over cardboard. The characters which appear on this are the customer, driving his Willys jeep “Follow Me”, from WW2. He´s accompanied by his wife and son.  Acrylics over carboard. Dimmenssions: 42 x 29.7 cms.

This is a logo drawn for a page on jeep Willys MB/Ford GPW of World War II. Pencil and computer on paper.

Quinn’s new 3 lever shift boot & bikini top

Quinn asked if I knew of any 3 lever boots for a tc & overdrive.  I said I didn’t, so he approached his local upolster to have him build something. If you have the same problem, it’s a good solution.  He also had his guy tuck the corners of a CJ-5 bikini top to fit nicely.  Good ideas and thanks for sharing!  You can see more pics of Quinn’s Jeep here.

1953 Truck Walla Walla, Wa **SOLD** … Meet Clarence!

• CATEGORIES: Willys Trucks • TAGS: .

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500. It’s a great ad though.

Clarence needs a good home.  I’m not sure if this ad is more art exhibit or more detailed explanation of the problems, but I really liked the pics; Enough to present them in full, though there are so many, I regulated most to the main page.  Enjoy.

“NUTSHELL VERSION:  1954 Willys Overland “jeep” truck, 134ci 4 cylinder engine (original), 4×4, Borg-Warner T-90 transmission (3 speed), Spicer 18 transfer case (hi, lo, neutral), 15″ wheels, Original “jeep” hubs, Runs well, Drives well.”

Clarence is a 1953 Willys Overland “Jeep” truck.

I purchased Clarence from an older gentleman in Caldwell Idaho, who bought him from his original owner. Clarence had not been driven for over 2 years when I had bought him. He ran just enough to get him onto the car hauling trailer.

Being that Clarence is 57 years old, he has some wrinkles and hic-ups I like to call “character”. Clarence and I went for a nice drive out in the country today to find a nice spot to take some pictures. I will try to express in pictures and writing all the “character” traits that Clarence has that makes him, I believe, so wonderful.

This one is on the drivers side fender. Fortunately it did not require any welding. Also note the “4 wheel drive” emblem is on this side.

Clarence is 4 wheel drive (4×4) with the original “jeep” hubs. I have used the 4 wheel drive in the snow and in the hills and it works great! He has the original 15″ wheels (3 black and 2 white). Which have radials on them that have over %50 life left. Although throwing some sealer in them or possibly some tubes wouldn’t be a bad idea. I currently stop by Les Schwab once a month to have them top them off with air

He also has the original Borg-Warner T-90 3-speed transmission. Which is still paired up with the original Spicer 18 transfer case

The inside is not to bad, although far from perfect. The bench seat has two storage spaces underneath. The seat appears to have been re-upholstered by a “non-professional”. It has some broken springs, but no tears. I did put in seat belts so that I could take my daughters around with me.

• CATEGORIES: Willys Wagons • TAGS: .

UPDATE: Status Unknown. Was $2200

(12/22/09) This might make a good resto project.

“Looking for a good home!! Here is a great find that needs some restoration. Southern car/ runs fine/ needs brakes. Other than the rear bumper, the body appears to be original and in very good condition. Floor does need some work. Engine is a big Chevy straight 6 and runs strong. Transmission wheel drive shifts and works smoothly. All doors and windows are tight. Steering is also very tight and smooth. Newer shocks and tires. Four wheel drive. This is NOT a rust bucket – just an antique wagon looking to be beautiful again!!! $2,200 OBO. Also have several parts that could be included.”

Question regarding wheel size 16.5 x 8.25″

A reader asked if anyone is familiar with any vehicle using a 16.5 x 8.25″ wheel with 33 x 12.50 x 16.5 tire?  The reader has some rims that he was told were original, but he can’t find anything about them.

1946 CJ-2A Portland, Or eBay

You gotta love the ‘flower’ box on the windshield … well, at least is looks like a flower box. According to the CJ-2A page, there was only production of 73,378 CJ-2As produced by the end of 1946, which would make this CJ-2A, with a serial number of 73459 as an early ’47 (assuming VINs, bodies, etc etc weren’t switched).  I didn’t realize this had the 6 cylinder in it.  It fits snugly. No title!

“1946 Willys Jeep CJ-2A. I’ve owned this jeep for about 16 years. We use it every year during elk and deer season. Other than that it’s stored inside undercover. The body is pretty straight for it’s age and  has very little rust, although there is some under the driver and passenger seat pans. The seats are just the steel frame with no cushions. The speedometer is missing but has the other gages. She starts easily and runs good but don’t plan on going anywhere fast (top speeds about 45mph). The original flat head 4 has been replaced with a Willys Super Hurricane 6 cylinder 226 cu. in. engine (produced by willys after 1954 for their pick ups.) It fits very nicely and delivers about 115 lots of power for climbing or dragging that big one out of woods. Transmission and transfer case are stock and work fine, although half of the rear driveline is missing (I think it dropped off during the tow home this year). The paint is mostly camo with the original red showing inside the cab area. I have’t had it registered since I bought it and can’t find the original title so I’ll issue a notarized bill of sale.”

1961 CJ-6 College Station, TX **SOLD**

1961_cj6_collegestationUPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2000

(11/25/09) This is still a project, however it runs, but doesn’t drive yet.  Only one pic, but it sounds like work has been done since the pic was taken.  Check out the Ad for a full list of new parts.

“For sale is my 1961 Willy’s CJ-6. It has a longer wheel base then the CJ-5(110” vs. 97” wheel base). It is an unfinished project that will make a great jeep someday. The engine is running and the jeep rolls but the drive shafts and steering are not hooked up. I have put a lot of time into this but have no more time these days with school to finish it. It has many new parts but is mostly original. Lots of rust on the body. All body parts are there. Most parts that are missing can most likely be found in a junk yard. If you were going to fix the rust, it would be easy sheet metal work. I will try to list everything, but email me if you have questions. The only picture I have is from when I was working on it last, email for more pics …”

1956 CJ-3B Jefferson, Ga **SOLD**

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was $3900

(10/09/09) “Up for auction is this 1956 Willys CJ3B. This Jeep is in great shape with nearly no rust and mechanically sound. It does have its typically willys seal leaks, but very little. This Jeep was bought about a year ago and, have been working on it little by little to get it to where it is today. I run around town locally in it, take the kids around and use it as a great conversation piece at car shows. If I go to one next time it may win. I have gone as far as I want to go in the restore, it’s time for someone else look after this piece of American history.  This Jeep has many new parts and all steering, brakes, transmission, 4X4 and engine work very, very well. This jeep will only run at about 45 miles an hour, but this little one will climb anything. I am selling this Jeep locally and have the right to stop the auction at anytime. I accept cash, PayPal or check, but I will have to go to a local bank with you to verify funds. This Jeep does not have a title as it is not required in Georgia for older vehicles.”
