Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (06/14/2011) “I have a 46 CJ2A column shift for sale. Jeep has PTO with flat belt drive. S/N 16965. I really hate to part with this jeep but it’s time. It does need some work.”
Brian forwarded these videos. What he was hoping they might stimulate are some comments about what might have been done differently . Of course, it would be easy to poke fun at the driver’s, but in some cases they might not have known better. So, maybe with some videos like this we can generate some teachable moments.
So, for example, Brian pondered the following contributing factors to the below accident:
(a) Lack of concern and respect of the trail leading to no trail spotter?
(b) Driver failing to understand center of gravity of Jeep ~VS~ gravity.
(c) Failing to recognize trail surface was equal to ball-bearings.
(d) The jeep seemed to be holding the hill before reversing. Driver failed to place jeep in revers and power out. (Related all above)

“This is a VEC very early 1946 Willys CJ2A 170## . It has the 4 cyl flathead that runs very well. I also has the early 3 speed coulmn shift tranny that shifts fine. Has a like new Best Top soft top with doors.. It has the original 6 volt system and will need a new battery. It has a M38 military windshield .. The tires hold air and have plenty of tread.. Come with a Ohio Title… All in all this is a very nice complete jeep that has sat in my shed for a few years”

This could still use some work, but looks pretty stock.
“This is a 1948 Willys Jeep, CJ2A, 4WD. It has a full aluminum cab. It has front wheel locking hubs. I believe it to be all original, or repaired with parts designed for it. This Jeep is the original Utility Vehicle. It is a quarter ton truck, 4WD; a working machine that is ready to use. You can start driving it and using it the moment you get it.
This Jeep runs very well. It starts every time, even on bitter cold January mornings after sitting outside all night. Our routine is to start the Jeep about once every two weeks. It starts readily every time.
The engine was recently rebuilt. Since we seldom drive this Jeep, it has virtually no miles on the rebuild. This Jeep engine is the original Jeep engine. The gas tank has been sealed, the brakes completely reworked.”

The motor runs great and the tranny seen to be fine also as I have driven it around the yard. frame is in decent condition in need of minor repair..Would be a great project for a repo body or if you just need a running motor and tranny… ”

This looks good. The rear of the bed has been sloped upwards in an unusual way.

This has some solid letter desert dogs. I suspect this has hardly been used over the past 30 years.

“1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep (first full year Civilian Jeep (CJ) made). Has 33K+ actual miles on odometer but rebuilt engine has about 2k on it. One family since new from Oklahoma as it belonged to my father-in-law before he passed on. I installed the rebuilt engine and did some clean up before taking it to a show which won first place in it’s class about 15 years ago. I keep it in good shape and insured and registered as it is so cheap at less than 200 miles a year. 12 volt coversion, elect fuel pump, electronic ignition, new gauges, resent rear seats and belts added and Mikey Thompson tires and wide wheels plus the five originals 16’s with good tread on tires too. Need to sell to help son with MS as it was a father/son project. Asking $6.500 with MT tires and wheels or $6,000 with just the stock ones. This Jeep runs great and drove on HY 58 to a show at Kramer Junction last month and it cruzed at 60 mph just fine for the 18 miles from my home and back. Will consider cash and part interesting trade but looking for some money here. Please no scammers or lowballers. This is a great original CJ2A and oh yea it has a PTO and winch that work too and clar CA title in hand.”

“1952 Flat fender jeep, full fiberglass body, Chevy 406cu small block 450 hp, Dana 60 in rear w/locker, Dana 44 in front w/warn hubs, 4-link in rear, fuel cell, 205 transfer case, B&M Trubo 400 w/clutch, B&M cable shifter, disk braks w/hill assist, scatter shields, MSD ignition w/two step rpm limiter, sand tires and garage tires. The back is solid. I can’t tell if that is a patch or a DJ body. This runs.
“Engine starts and runs. Gas tank needs re-installed. Soft top intact – no rips or tears. Full roll cage. Typical restoration needs on the interior for a classic jeep. Installed new axels and leaf springs w/ 488 gears last year. Selling due to change of interest towards backpacking. Don’t want to spend the time necessary to restore. This is a project, but appears pretty original.
“1948 Willys Jeep Cj-2A sn154582. One-owner Jeep, original title, barn find, offered as found. Originally Potomac Gray. Paperwork folder includes payment book and registrations dating back to 1948. Sold originally at Greer Willys on Union Ave. in Memphis. Restoration started in 1970s but stopped for unknown reason. Chassis completely restored and is still shiny black. Engine rebuilt, turns. Trans & transfer case also reportedly gone through at that time. Body has surface rust only and is sitting on chassis, needs mount kit. Perfect Willys script tailgate, Willys script hood, original fold-out windshield, diamond-plate side steps, believed to be original canvas on driver’s and back seat, five original rims, even has original ignition key! Paint it and put it together! Nice straight project for early civilian Willys enthusiast. Will not part out. $2500”
