A CJ-3B Buried in the Snow in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada
Someone is saying to themselves, “I knew I should have put the jeep in the garage.” This CJ-3B is located in Iqaluit, a Canadian town way up and out there, in relation to me anyway. The photograph was taken just a few days ago (as best as I can tell) by Ron Wassink. I think the jeep is for sale, too, for those that want to take a REAL road trip, but bring your back hoe to dig it out of the snow.
From Wikipedia, “Iqaluit was founded in 1942 as an American airbase, geographically located to provide a stop-over and refueling site for short range fighter aircraft being ferried across the Atlantic to support the war effort in Europe. Iqaluit’s first permanent inhabitant was Nakasuk, an Inuk guide who helped American Air Force planners to choose a site with a large flat area suitable for a landing strip. Long regarded as a campsite and fishing spot by the Inuit, the place chosen had traditionally been named Iqaluit – “place of many fish” in Inuktitut – but Canadian and American authorities named it Frobisher Bay, after the name of the body of water it abuts.”
The Houston Art Car Parade (May 20, 21 & 22)

Mark wrote me to share with me one of Houston’s unique cultural events. They were the originating city for the Art Car Parade. Houston launched the parade in 1988 with 40 cars and a couple thousand spectators. Today the number of cars in the parade will top 250, with around 250,000 spectators. The 2011 Houston Art Car Parade will be held this weekend.
Naturally, did a few searches to see if I could any jeeps, but I only found two. So, below them are a few curious creations that have appeared over the years.

This past weekend Pete, from the Old Willys Forum, drove down to the 2nd Annual Willys Moab Rally 2011 put on by Casey Dimmitt. He reports that they had plenty of fun and wished they could stay longer. Pete put this video together (I think to make us all jealous so that we’ll join them next year!). This has a front and rear PTO.
“I have a 1946 cj2a flat fender jeep for sale. It needs a little work, but runs great, and will drive you around town!. The jeep is FULL of rare and sought after parts. The motor is a flat head inline 6 out of a Willys jeepster, which was only offered for two years with this motor “VERY RARE”. T-90 3 speed tranny, Dana 18 t-case w/ a spicer PTO unit front & rear. Dana 44 rear axle with new bearings and seals / Dana 27 front, both axles have the biggest brakes offered for any jeep…11″ drums. Snagsaw steering box, swing pedals, power brakes, line lock for brakes, 6500lbs pto winch. The jeep is sitting on heavy duty springs out of a milltary jeep. Tires are 33″. I have done stuff like installed a new gas tank and boiled out the rad, new oils and seals. I also have some cool extras, ww2 Windsheild frame, brand new in the box wiring harness. The previous owner had the jeep registered NON-OP, but the title is gone however there is a tag on the firewall and came with plates. I called DMV and the told me it would be no big deal just bring them the jeep and new plates could be issued the same day! The body is in good shape, the floors are in great shape.
She runs great and is so fun to drive, you’ll have WWII vets coming out of the woodwork wanting to talk, and thumbs up everywhere.”

“I have for sale a Willys JEEP CJ2A. The jeep is currently titles as a 1972 because it is very hard in my state to get a new title. The original serial number is on the jeep. The jeep is tagged and i have driven it alot on the road. The jeep has always performed very well for me. The body has been patched over the years with new metal, (no bondo that i can see). The frame is in good shape. All the brakes have been replaced, (master cyl., wheel cyl., lines, shoes, ect. ). The wire harness has been updated to 12 volt and all the lights work fine. The 4 wheel drive also works great. The engine runs good and all the gears work fine in the trans. The water pump is new and the starter is rebuilt. I bought this jeep when i retired 5 years ago to pull a wagon with firewood out of the woods, I am older now and find it hard to get in and out of so i bought a tractor instead.
