Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Here’s a project. Are those hubs on the back? It might have a full floating back end.
“1948 Jeep Willys a project to finish or willing to part out. Has an iron duke motor with less than 35,000 miles on it. Selling for $550 or best offer. Make a good enough offer, we can’t refuse.”
This Jeep has some personality. It’s a bit beat up, but I like it.
“This is and old Jeep that has been in the family for about 30 years and has just been used on private property to stay out of the weather when hunting which is great and push snow. The engine is the 4cyl. Hurricane with 3 speed manual trans. It starts and runs but has been sitting for some time and will need a tune up and the pinion seals show some leaking. The electrical system is the original 6 volt but starter has been rewound for 12 volt. Generator does not work but alternator does. Snow plow is homemade but does the job. The odometer shows 63827 but stopped working long ago. A water line can be seen but that was years ago and is dry at this time. With this said it would be necessary to trailer home and do some TLC before being roadworthy. I have a clear Missouri title in my name that will be reassigned over to you with a bill of sale. Paul made good progress recently with the radiator installation. I’ll let him explain …
Paul writes, “During the past few days I’ve been busy scrounging metal, making parts and playing with the welder but the end result is the Willys has an M 151 radiator installed along with a V type firewall to radiator brace and a hood hold open rod. I also picked up my new radiator from the local military surplus yard in addition to a used shroud and the necessary lower mounts. The new radiator will reside safely in the house until it’s time to be installed after I quit taking things apart for modifications and redesigns but the size of this radiator is just about perfect for the room available under the hood. I’ll have to spend some time at the local autoparts store mixing and matching coolant hoses before the engine is plumbed to the radiator and I also have to go shopping for a low profile electric fan (a puller is what I’m hunting for) but both of these tasks can be solved with reasonable amounts of money so I’m feeling pretty good with my progress so far. ”

This is nothing fancy, but appears solid.
“1951 willys cj3a, rebuilt motor in 04′, body sprayed with bed liner, inside, outside and underneath, frame sand blasted and painted, 9k winch mounted on front, works great, needs brake shoes, which i have, and carb kit, which i have, although it still runs fine, and a bunch of extra parts, which will go with the willys, doesn’t use oil, 4 wheel drive works great, used it at my cabin in the Adirondack mnts, sold cabin, no need for willys, ”

UPDATE: Status Unknown. Was $1800.
“I have a 63 Willys Wagon. It has the flathead 6cyl, 3spd trans, and all stock running gear. I was told it had been used in the Army but I have no proof of that. It does have a military data plate on the dash so it was used by some branch of the military early in its life. It was originally highway department yellow. My guess would be that it served on an air field or maintenance department for the Army or Air Corps. It runs and drives great and has a pretty decent body compaired to most of the other wagons I’ve seen. It has stock wheels and fairly new tires. It has the factory wooden slats still in the bed. THE BAD It does not have any brakes, and it has no title but I will provide you with a bill of sale. It was owned by a hunting club in AR and they never titled it. It is possible to obtain a title. Jeep is located in Paducah, KY and I’ll take $1,800 cash for it.”

“1964 Willys Cj5 jeep. good clear clean title. 4 speed. 4cyl. dually rear axle , I also have original axle. 4wd hi and low. new 5 point racing bucket seats. new paint. all lights and blinkers work. fan and heater blows hot. We had a discussion a while back about ways to improve the performance of your L or F Head. Clifford Performance specializes in improving the performance of in-line engines — even their slogan 6=8 signifies that you can get the horsepower of a V8 out of inline 6s with some modifications.
If you have an inline 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder engine this site is worth checking out. Here’s an example of the F or L-head header.

Note the unusual rear PTO winch.
“Here we have original Willys Jeep 1951 CJ3A . This little farm jeep runs excellent, the previous owner rebuilt the engine. It drives, and even stops with a great brake pedal. It is also has a PTO driven winch and the half cab with doors. The frame is nice and solid. The body will need some TLC . The floor is ok but the floor under the tool box is gone. Repair panels are readily available through Kaiser Willys Auto Supply. Perfect restoration candidate with optional equip. This is too nice to part out , but if it doesn’t sell I will part it out. You don’t find them often!”

(01/03/2010) This is an interesting build as it sports a jeepster front clip. I can’t remember seeing this done. I think it works pretty well. I’d check out the frame closely, as the seller had a problem with it during an outing.
“This is my prize 1963 CJ5 rock crawler that due to the lack of interest and the need of money for property taxes, I must let go. I easily have $15000 invested in this and the only thing left on it that’s 1963 is the rear axle housing.
Here’s what’s been done;
1. Dana 30 disc brake front end w/4:88 gears and a Lock-rite and Warn hubs(27 Spline)
2. Dana 44 offset rear with 11” brakes w/4:88 gears and a power lock, full float with 27 spline Warn hubs
3. Early 80’s DJ frame with outboard rear YJ leaf springs and Rancho 3” front springs, shackle reversal
4. New drive shafts
5. 1979 229 Chevy v6 injected on propane
6. t-18 granny low Ford transmission mated to Spicer 18 transfer case
7. 67 Jeepster front clip
8. 76 CJ5 tub
9. Warn 8000# upright winch
10. Power steering
11. Recent Best top
12. Toyo Open Country’s 35×13.50r15lt on custom offset steel rock crusher wheels
13. Wiring harness, 16 circuit, purchased from THE JEEP GUY here in Portland

Here’s what needs to be finished;
1. Needs to have a roll cage built
2. Needs exhaust redone
3. Has some minor electrical gremlins searched out
This Jeep has been on most of the trails at Moab, Rubicon, Fordyce, Barrett Lake, and Browns Camp to name a few. This Jeep has been a constant work in progress for me for the last 25 years or so, but time to move on. Really need to get $5000 out of this, but cash talks so make me an offer. Would consider trades for nice FSJ, Hot Rod, Rat Rod, Drag race parts, Dually, AMC’s, Car Trailer, or anything else you have I might find of interest.
