UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4000.

Ted contacted me to let me know he has decided to sell Eleanor, his nice, stock, 1947 CJ-2A.

Ted writes, “ I am selling Eleanor, a Late 1947 CJ-2A. #148236. She is a daily driver and runs good. 134 engine, T-90 tranny, 18 transfer, 16’x4.5 rims, with new NDT tires & tubes. Converted to 12 volt, but have the original 6 volt generator & a voltage box. All new brake system from front to back. All new gauges & light switch, still in the box, old gauges are still in her. Warn overdrive (not in), Harrison heater & driver side heater(not in).  I put a new heater in 2 years ago before I bought the harrison. New carb kit was put in 2 years ago, and she will start in -15 degree ever time. Tiger top is 2 years old. Has a nice roll bar in her, was going to take it out just never got to it. Has a 3A windshield on her now but have a 2A windshield  for her also. Before I bought her, someone put in a bucket seat and cut holes (4’x5″) in the back fender wells for the buckets to fit, wouldn’t take much to fix. I have both 2A seat frames in nice shape with new seat cover, seat pans, foam & hardware, still in the box, also 47 back seat with original cover and springs (no rips or holes). I also have license plate brkt, leather shift boots, hood block and other parts that where made by members here on the form. There is other thing also that I have bought, or put on, just can’t think of it right now. The tool box floor is rusted out, but the pass, floor is good to go. I no for a fax, had kids jumping in it for 2 years. Factory color was mich yellow but was primer grey when I bought her. I was going to do a ground up restore but things have change and would like her to go to a good home.”

1946 CJ-2A Sold for $1500 on eBay

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Here’s a stock CJ-2A that sold this afternoon.

“Nice original, unmolested 1946 Willys CJ-2A Jeep. This Jeep was owned by a local service station for many, many years, and spent much of its life stored inside. When the owner died, a co-worker and I purchased it and stored it in his garage. He began replacing some of the safety items like brakes and fuel tank, but lost his garage space to his wifes car. I bought him out, and had planned to finish the couple items but do not have time. The engine was running before the old rusty fuel tank was removed. It turns over with good compression, and has spark. The new fuel tank needs to be installed, and a new fuel line run. He also did some work to the brakes, but the lines are not finished (I think he replaced all the shoes and cylinders),. There is also some wiring that need to be replaced (cloth covering rotted)….”

(03/06/2010) Includes an overdrive.  The seller and the state of Idaho both note that ‘Salt’ is not used on Idaho roads; however, just to splice hairs, while the state of Idaho might not use Sodium Chloride (aka table salt), they do use Calcium Chloride and Magnesium Chloride, both of which fall into the family of salts (aka a chemical product produced by reacting an acid with a base).

“This wagon needs TLC, everything is on it, engine has been rebuilt, very little rust{Idaho DOES NOT USE SALT on their roads} 4 cyl L head with overdrive, not 4×4. serious inquires only, pictures upon request”

Paul is finally chillin’

• CATEGORIES: Builds, Features, Reader Stories • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

A trip to the local Military show turned out to be just what Paul needed.  BTW Paul, you don’t owe us anything.  You are putting on a show for us up there in “The Last Frontier (which is the official state nickname)”.  No doubt there’s a few readers who might benefit from this mod.

Paul, take it away!  “This past weekend the local military vehicle collectors had a show at a car dealership near my house for the general public and it was free so I went.  Before leaving the house I grabbed my camera and a steel tape just incase I ran across a shining gem of a radiator nestled among the antique olive drab metal.  In addition to the WWII Willys and Ford Jeeps on display, the Dodge command cars, M 38’s and M 38 A1’s there were a couple of M 151’s and one of them had it’s hood up.  Naturally I began checking out the radiator, first by eye and then measuring the height, width and thickness and ending up on my back under this Mutt where I noticed the radiator was a bottom mount.  Most interesting!

The original M 38 radiator is a bottom mount with a top mount brace rod, it’s 21 1/4 inches wide by 19 inches high and 5 inches thick.  These dimensions are overall and they include the radiator cap.  The core dimensions are 13 inches high by 20 inches wide and 3 inches thick.

The M 151 radiator is a bottom mount with a top mount brace rod, it’s 20 1/2 inches wide by 19 inches high and about 4 inches thick (I didn’t measure the metal shroud so I’m guessing here) and once again these measurements are overall.  The core is 13 1/2 inches high by 19 1/4 inches wide by 2 inches thick.

Both radiators have a drivers side inlet (top) and a passenger side outlet (bottom).

Gentlemen, we have a winner !!!!!!

For the past 55 years E. A. Patson Parts and Equipment has been dealing in new and used surplus military vehicles and parts here in Anchorage but Elmer Patson is 86 years old (his son, Rod, is only 63 but he’s been working at the business since he was 12) and would like to retire so everything’s for sale.  I asked about M 151 radiators and they have both new and used radiators.  I was able to borrow a used radiator so I could do a bit of metal massaging and fabricate a lower mount and the top brace rod and when the snow melts some and they can get into one of their outbuildings where the new radiators are stored I’ll buy one of those.  For now this used radiator will allow me to continue my progress with the Willys resurrection until the end of March when I’ll officially declare the winter to be over and it will be time to do outside (summer) projects.

Thanks again to all the Willys fans for their much appreciated suggestions, ideas and help.  I look forward to the day when I can return the favor, but until then I owe you.
