1964 CJ-5 Highland, Ut $2000

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This sounds like a good price on a CJ with new tires and brakes. There’s a couple things that puzzle me.  The reversed springs in the front and the M-38a1 dash would suggest, well, a M-38a1; However, the serial number suggests a CJ-5.

“64 CJ Willys jeep. Runs and drives great, New brakes and tires this winter. Not much has been done with this jeep as I have no time. Job transfer is forcing the sale, We dive this jeep about three times a month and almost everytime it snows in the winter..”

1956 CJ-5 La Grande, OR **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500

“I am forced into selling my 1956 Willy’s Jeep. It is in pretty good condition for it’s age. It has a nice vinyl top and a new backseat. It has one very small patch of rust on the rear tailgate.  Due to an accident that I had and being out of town for work, we haven’t been able to use it for awhile but last time we used it, it ran very well. Right now it won’t start and we believe it is a bad starter. We just haven’t had time to find out.  We use it on the farm and in the mountains. A really fun 4 wheeler and hunting rig. We have dropped the asking price by a considerable amount because of the starter.  It has a winch on the front and also a tow bar. It has fancier wheels than are shown in these pictures and larger tires. The tires are in fairly good condition.

Whoever had it before we did, cut the front fenders to put huge tires on it. We removed the tires and put a more reasonable size on it but we never got the fenders replaced. We put fender flares on it, which look okay. It does have bigger tires than are shown in the pictures and nicer wheels.  If you are interested, I will take current pictures with the other wheels and tires. It’s just been such crummy weather that I didn’t think I could get a good picture. These pictures are only a year or so old.”

This looks clean and solid.  I don’t review many of these (they don’t usually pop up in my searches), but it looks like at least a decent deal.  I was thinking about getting my son one of these for his 16th birthday.  It would be something with 4wd (good for the salt lake area) that he could use in winter and use to explore the desert.

“New starter motor, new fuel pump, new tuneup. 100K plus miles, excellent condition for a ’69. 4 wheel drive, automatic on the floor, 350 V8, Tilt wheel, turbo 400 transmission. Runs great, needs brake job.”

And now for a Special Comment …

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

A frustrated reader named ‘john doe’ emailed me tonight, leaving me an email with no return address.  ‘John’ was frustrated because many of the links related to vehicles for sale are no longer valid. ‘John’s’ frustration with this issue isn’t unreasonable; however, I keep the content for my purposes and for historical purposes (sometimes comments are attached to them for example).

To better answer ‘John’, and to remind readers, here is what I put in the FAQ section:

Craigslist Ads expire at different rates depending on where the ad is located.  In many cases, Ads are repeated.  In some cases, they aren’t re-listed even though the jeep remains for sale. So, I always err on the side of ‘for sale’ unless contacted by someone or unless the ad is deleted by the author.

The overall goal is to get a sense of how these old flat fenders are priced so that both buyers and sellers have a better sense of their local and national market.

Finally, in some cases these jeeps provided a teaching tool to show others something unique or unusual about the jeep.

So, to get the most out of this site, you are best off reviewing it every day or every other day to see what’s been added.

In addition, if you are looking for a particular jeep in a particular area and the search tool isn’t helping, just contact me (d@ewillys.com) and I’ll be happy to help you.

What I won’t be doing is deleting old content simply because it is old, though I do delete various posts when I think they no longer meets my needs.

What I would be willing to do is pay someone to build a better search tool so that posts can be searched by dates.  However, to do that I’d have to raise some money from readers, as I don’t have the experience to build that plugin.  If there’s an interest in this feature, and thus an interest in having me add a donation button to pay programmers to improve the site, then I’m open to that option.

Thanks,

– Dave

This jeep looks good.  It appears to have an updated motor of some type as I think I see a header coming down on the passenger side.  It doesn’t look like there’s a muffler attached to the header.

“I have a 1946 Jeep Willys that was left to me by my father. Unfortuntley, due to the present economy I can no longer store it. It was last restored in the late 80s. Its a great project for a serious car lover. I would also be willing to trade for something of similiar value. Perhaps an older bronco. I request serious inquires only due to the fact of sentimental value that it holds.”

It sounds like plenty have been done to this jeep.

“This was my winter project. I was going to keep it but, with Jeep offering such good deals on new jeeps, prehaps a new jeep? A TON of work was done by the previous owner, I got it and finished it. All work was professionally done.
It has a new steel body on it, (the fuel filler is in the drivers rear instead of under the drivers seat), just repainted, (it was scratched, no body filler plates)
6 point full roll cage.New fuel tank with “skid pan”.  Electric fuel pump.V-6 motor with low mileage, (no gunk under valve covers or timing chain cover) good oil PSI
New timing chain and gears.  “Hooker” wheel well headers with “Turbo” welded mufflers, (as well as a spare set of small “Cherry bomb” mufflers).  “Moroso” chrome valve covers. Almn. Radiator.  New T-90 3 speed trans, Dana 18 transfer case, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing.  “Advanced Adpter” chain clutch linkage. Dana 44 rear axle, Dana 27 front axle, (all axle seals were replaced, new fluids in everything underneath, bearing repacked). New brake lines, wheel cylinders, dual master cylinder. New tires on stell spoked rims as well as a spare set of “Mickey Thompson” L-60 tires on “Eagle Alloy” rims. New gauges, Radio, C.B.
Custom Racing seats.  Everything on the Jeep works as it should. It’s not show restored, but a solid jeep.  All it needs is a top and a heater to finish it off. I’ve got all the reciepts for the work I’ve done, as well as as much info as I could on the jeep, plus a list of part vendors.”
