Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This is a project, but based on the parts list, it sounds like it might be worth the price. The front clip looks like it is fiberglass. I would guess the truck tranny is either a sm420 or sm456. It’s difficult to see whether it would really only take a couple hours to make this run.

“Here is my 1948 Willys Jeep that I started as a porject some years ago and just didn’t finish. I put new wheel cylinders, master cyl, shocks, fuel pump, coil, plugs, ans did some body work. It ran very well when I disassmbled it. It needs wiring harness, gas tank and seat frames….almost ready to go for the right person.”

1962 Willys (JEEP) Utility Wagon, Chevy 350 V8. Power steering. T-90 3 speed manual transmission, Dana Spicer 18 transfer case. Warn allrange overdrive. The Warn overdrive works in both high and low transfer case ranges and in two and four wheel drive. The transmission/overdrive combination can be split shifted.
This gives the vehicle 6 forward speeds in both high and low ranges. Electric Wipers.

“Hunting season is here! Classic 1948 Willys CJ 2A “Civilian Jeep” Original 4 cyl 134 ci “Go Devil” engine and 3 Speed manual T-90 transmission. The engine, transmission, clutch, 4WD, transfer case, high/low range and lights are all in working condition. The body is extremely solid. The floor pans have been patched. It has the 6 volt electrical system, with an electric fuel pump. It has a little play in the steering and the typical fluid drips and leaks for a CJ2A of this vintage. Although it’s not perfect, it’s in much better shape than a lot of the older Jeeps that are available on the market. Come and take a look – you know you’ve always wanted one! Located in Duluth.”

“This is the station wagon model. Odometer is a 6 digit meter and shows 03,992.8 miles but I’m sure it is 103,992. Engine runs and drives. Has the original 4 cylinder engine and a 3 speed column shift transmission with over drive. This is the 2 wheel drive model. Vehicle is in very restorable condition. Body in fair to good condition, solid frame. Comes with some extra parts, trans, steering wheel and misc. parts. Also comes with a repair manual and a restoration manual. “1948 Willys Jeep with a Chevy 283 V-8 with a Warn overdrive. Everything is 12 Volt and has a heater and comes with two original backseats. Original transmission, axles, and differentials. Extras include a bikini top, front push guard, spare gas tank and tire and the Jerry gas cans. Tires are in great shape and the body and tub has no rust. I really do not want to sell it, but I just do not use it anymore.”

Well, there’s nothing that indicates this is an MB. It looks more like a CJ-2A You gotta love this ‘matching’ trailer. But, the price is good.

While it’s not a jeep in form, it certainly captures the spirit of a jeep in function. Two alternators, three batteries, and a host of features make this an unusual vehicle. The most recent cheap jeep was launched in 1974 for the purpose of desert and mountain travel, not unlike the way original mountain bikers back in 1976 utilized old tough schwinn bikes to tackle the mountains. It’s singular purpose –the next ghost town or bust — was a cheap, but dependable vehicle capable of on road and off road travel for thousands of miles over the period of a week. This vehicle is still used and images and video from 2009 can be found on the website along with links to all the places these intrepid adventurers have visited over the past years (scroll to the bottom of the homepage). Steve Ricketts writes on the westernghosts.com website, In 1974, I acquired a 1966 Pontiac convertible from another customer. This time the price was $75.00. Like the Chrysler Imperial, the Pontiac needed a lot of work. After extensive engine repair and a transmission rebuild and modification, it was able to be driven to my house where the first Cheap Jeep (Chrysler Imperial) was stored. The transformation from old cheap jeep to new cheap jeep began. The finished product is what you see today.
It is highly modified, and works better for our purposes than anything we could buy today. It is easy to repair on the road, and parts are readily available. It carries more than “regular” jeeps and is a lot cheaper to replace should it become necessary to abandon. I would really hate to take a $30,000+, four wheel drive (Blazer/Bronco, etc.) on one of these trips. At the very least, the paint and body would be badly damaged. It would also be next to impossible to repair in the field, and a very real possibility exists that I would someday have to abandon it. After all these years of use and modification, I still have less than $800.00 invested in the Cheap Jeep…and that includes the original purchase price.”

“Unfortunatly, I have run into some finacial issues and am not able to do what I would like with this Jeep. I pulled it out of a barn on one of our farms after it had sat for probably 20 years; Replaced the fuel lines, put in new plugs, and flushed the tank FIRED RIGHT UP! It has the original engine in it not sure what exactly it is and i believe the axles are dana 44’s? The tires all hold air and has newer black wall wheels. There is no title for it willing to write a bill of sale but it is being sold as an “Off road Vehicle”. It does not have any seats and needs a new steering wheel as well as a battery but have one that I can throw in there to show you how well it runs. The Brakes will need a service aswell. The 4 wheel drive works very well and all gears work aswell. I am looking to get rid of this ASAP! So all offers are open for discussion. A nice roll cage, a brand new winch, and a clean look body make this appear to be a good deal.

It was stretched fairly nicely in the back compared with the patch between the hood and grille in the front.

It’s got a new winch. The tires look good. It also has a big foot pedal. Do you need any more than that? I’m not sure why it has lights in a 2 pics and not in the other two pics.
