1966 CJ-5 Lynn, MA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was $1500

(04/13/2011) How about that unusual hard top?  This might be a good price given some work was just done on it.

“For sale we have our 1966 Jeep Willys CJ5. We bought this last fall to plow our office parking lot but with all the snow we had this year we realize it is just too small for our needs. We did a bunch of work to it to get it yard worthy and it is a great little plow truck. It has a 4 cylinder F-Head 134 ci engine and a 3 speed manual transmission. It is four wheel drive with Warn locking hubs and high and low range. It has a 6 foot manual angle plow on it. We also have soft doors for it which are not shown in the pictures.

It has four brand new BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires (size LT215/75R15)

New Master Cylinder and front brake lines

New Battery

We had the radiator dipped, painted and soldered to repair a leak

We’ve already done the work to get this truck up and running as a plow truck so here’s your chance to make it easy on yourself. The odometer shows 18k miles. We were told by the guy we purchased it from that this was originally owned by a utility company in Vermont, so the mileage could be accurate, however we are assuming it has rolled over. Jeep is sold with a bill of sale only. We have no title. It will need to be trailered or towed away, it is not roadworthy.”

John’s D44 Rear Axle Modification

• CATEGORIES: Features, How To This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  I initially had this as a front axle modification, which was clearly incorrect (the lack of a stearing knuckle should have been my first clue!)

Thanks to John for putting together the narrative and the images!

“Thought some other folks might find this interesting, especially those that have swapped to the D44 rear axle.

While trying to cobble some parts together to build a D44 front axle for my CJ6, I  noticed that the GM D44 small bearing spindles that came with the flat top knuckle axles had the same number of  stud holes as the offset D44 in the back of my CJ.  Knowing that the 2 pc. axle shafts were a weak point, I had kicked around the idea of finding a 71′ offset flanged axle, and installing Herms FF Kit. I figured the flanged D44 would be a long shot, and I didn’t really like the tapered shafts in Herms kit, as you have to pull the spindle to get the shaft out.  So,what to do?  I ended up at R&P 4wdin Oregon City, and asked Richard and Paul what they thought about using the GM spindle to make a full float axle kit. At this point, Rich got a twinkle in his eye and asked me to follow him out into the shop.  From some shelf, he pulled a half machined spindle out, and said, “like this?”. Perfect!  This kit probably wont be for everyone, but was a homerun for me. It lets me run the same Ford 1/2 ton hub and rotor as the front(to keep things 5 on 5.5), the same internal splined locking hubs as the front, and GM calipers.  Overall the FF kit added 2″ of width to my rear axle (same as the front), and I got an axle shaft that is full diameter(30 spline inner, 19 spline outer), and is removable without pulling the spindle.  I ended up running a late 70’s Cadillac caliper (that uses the same GM backing plate as the front), and has a E-brake. And all for a little less than a grand.  I hope somebody out there will find this as cool as I did.
Thanks,
John

1946 CJ-2A Salisbury, MD **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Was $3000

The floorboards have been replaced with diamond plating, but this looks pretty good.  Note the seller has the following for sale as well:  King-seely governor. Full PTO system with rear belt pulley drive. Tow bar. And an ultra-rare Ramsey Model 101 crank-driven winch (missing the driveshaft and clutch). I will pull these parts and sell separately unless purchaser would like to negotiate them in the deal.

’46 CJ2a unmolested original. Completely rebuilt brakes — all new steel and rubber lines, shoes, master cylinders. Currently has a new Solex carb, original Carter WO (rebuilt) in a box. New fuel pump, original included. Replaced broken intake manifold with new replacement (broken original included). Still running the original 6v system, all original gauges, starter, and generator. New battery. All gauges work. Sears brand locking hubs. All lights work (only one tail light, no turn signals). 4wd system works.

Starts, runs, idles, and drives with no smoke. Trans shifts cleanly, understanding it is a non-syncro first gear. 4wd system functions well, and yes, I really use it to pull loaded trailers, play in the snow, and drag things around the yard. I drive it (untagged) around the neighborhood regularly and easily hit 30-40mph with no problems — never had it any faster. I have let it idle for an hour, never overheats — actually, I have to put some cardboard over the radiator to keep it warm in the winter.

Body is in very good original shape relative to other unrestored 2a’s. There are a few rust-through spots, would be fairly easily replaced with plain sheet metal, or drive it as is. Driver/passenger floors were replaced at some point with diamondplate. Rear bed is in great shape. Original seats. Windshield was modified to have a single pane glass instead of the split glass. Single 6v wiper was added, that does work. Tailgate works and is in great shape. Body serial numbers match (tub/tailgate), also in line with the production serial number, and its in line with the engine block number. Hat channels are rusted. Frame is completely solid, suspension has performed well, and the steering is relatively tight. I have a lift and we can put it up in the air to look at the bottom side.

Several accessories are available, but not included at the posted price. King-seely governor. Full PTO system with rear belt pulley drive. Tow bar. And an ultra-rare Ramsey Model 101 crank-driven winch (missing the driveshaft and clutch). I will pull these parts and sell separately unless purchaser would like to negotiate them in the deal.

Photos available, or come by and I’ll get it out of the garage. Its a very cool old rig that deserves to stay original. I already have a highly modified Jeep, and could use some my garage space back.”

1959 CJ-5 Sacramento, Ca $1900

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

There have been a variety of upgrades.  Might not be a bad price.

“This is an original Willy’s Jeep. It is a 1959 CJ5, and with the exception of the original body, Jeep has been modified throughout:

-1970 Buick 350 V8 Motor
-Dana 30 Front End
-Dana 44 Rear End rebuilt within last year
-Dana 20 Transfer Case
-Chevy 4-Speed Transmission with 1st Granny Gear
-Rancho 2.5 inch Suspension lift
-32 inch Tires with 80% tread left
-Brand new Warn locking hubs within last year
-New Radiator and water pump within last year
-New Batter, alternator and starter within last 1.5 years
-New Ignition coil within last 6 months
-Dual fuel tanks
-3 Custom steel storage boxes

Jeep is rough around the edges, but starts and runs great. Idles very smooth, and motor is very responsive. With all of the modifications, this is one of the best running Jeeps you will find. It is a perfect hunting rig or 4-wheeler. Being a 1959, no smog is necessary for registration. Registration is current. 4 seat belts.

Only interested in cash sale. No trades please. Call with questions. Andy – 916-919-4746. ”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2600.

(01/16/2011) This looks like a good little runner for a reasonable price.  The body does have a few body patches.

“1959 Willys Jeep CJ5 with about 27,000 miles on the speedometer (speedometer was disconnected when I bought the Jeep). 3-speed with high/low range and 4×4. Has the front locking hubs. 12-volt system. Rebuilt starter motor and carburetor last week.

Wheels are 15 inch and in great condition with good Michelin 33×12.5 tires on them with good tread remaining. Previous owner invested over $900 in wheels and tires alone.

A few small rust spots under the paint and it is not a professional paint job but it looks good. The jeep does have a rust hole in the glove box and in the compartment under the passenger seat as well as some through the back bumper. There are metal plates screwed on across the back, in the bed, and on the front floors due to rusting of the original metal I presume. Some fiberglass repairs have been made on the back fenders also. Overall it is a very solid jeep.

It runs strong with no problems, starts and drives great. Previous owner took the glass out of the windshield frame. Needs turns signals, brake light wires connected,, and a windshield.

I have a top and two doors from a Humvee that I’ll include with the jeep. They are in good condition except for a hole in one of the plastic windows. They would need customizing to be able to be put on the jeep though.”

“We have a 1969 CJ5 jeep with a straight 6 cylinder with a 3 speed manual, 4X4 with manual locking hubs.
This is a perfect jeep for someone who wants some parts or wants to completely rebuild and have a great restored fun to drive 4×4. (We do not have a windshield for it – lost in one of the moves.)
This was a running working jeep on our ranch and over time it started needing work then just got parked and forgotten, then we wanted to do a complete restoration on it and really never got started on it, now we just need to sell it, and let someone else add the TLC and then be able to appreciate it.
We are asking $300.00, please contact us via email and we can set a time for you to come look at it. ”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

“For your consideration a 1952 Willys M38a1 military jeep.   Serial  # 17543,  dod.  9/52, making it an early example with the thumbscrew battery box lid, hinged front grill,  rare original slanted seam front fenders, and the narrow early bumper undamaged.

Runs great, with no smoke or knocks. The engine is totally original with the 24 volt system and all waterproof accessories (distributor, carb, generator, regulator). Transmission and transfer case shift smoothly and quietly. Brakes are inoperative due to bad master cylinder.

Was a municipal vehicle used for off road search and rescue (seldom)   It was well maintained and not abused, spent most of its time in storage. Has the original seats, cushions, rear seat, and 50’s dated tires. (pass seat not shown but included)  Body has very minimal rust, surface rust  mostly in a few spots, and a couple small dings. Frame and springs are excellent. Has all original dashboard and data plates.  Windshield frame is very good shape also.

Would make an excellent easy restoration candidate, as it has not been modified in civilian hands. Never had a snowplow mounted. Never had locking hubs installed. Never been registered on the road.  Has one of the best original condition body’s that I have seen”

(12/26/09) This build looks interesting as it has some unique touches.  The top is certainly unusual and is probably a relief on hot summer days. I’d like to get some more detail pics of this one.

“This jeep has given us much fun on off-roads and hunting trips. It hasn’t been driven on the highway since we have owned it. We trailer it to and from the mountains. 1947 CJ-2A “Blindside” Lake Geneva, WI **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was on eBay.

(08/07/2010) This is a fiberglass bodied flattie on a custom frame.  I’ve included lots of pics of this good looking build.  Note in the last image is a stack of vintage, though used, desert dogs.

Engine: Small block Chevy, .060 over 4 bolt main, 360 cubic inches. Mallory Unilite electronic ignition, Mallory Promaster coil, Edelbrock 750 CFM carburetor, Edelbrock aluminum intake, B&M air cleaner, Crane musclecar 350/350 hydraulic camshaft, melling high volume oil pump, SRE high torque mini starter, marine aluminum 8 quart oil pan, aluminum Mickey Thompson valve covers, Griffin aluminum radiator, aluminum high volume water pump, ceramic coated fenderwell headers, & 2 ½” turbo mufflers.

Transmission: 1970 Chevy Turbo-hydramatic 400 3 speed automatic. Trans was disassembled, boiled, and rebuilt with: new steels, new clutches, new band, new gaskets, and new seals. Valve body has a B&M trans-pak shift kit & adjustable vacuum modulator. Torque convertor is a 10”. Trans temperature is maintained via a ‘Keep Cool’ frame mounted trans cooler. Trans is shifted via a B&M Pro-Stick shifter with reverse lock-out and rear cable conversion.

Transfer-case: Dana 20 twin-stick. Transfer Case was disassembled, boiled, and rebuilt with new gaskets, new seals, & new bearings. Shifter ‘lock-out’ detent was removed to achieve low range in 2 wheel drive.

Rear Axle: Dana 44. Axle was disassembled, boiled, and completely rebuilt with new gaskets, seals, and bearings. Axle has 30 spline one piece axle shafts, new ring and pinion gears (4.27), new spring pads, new u-bolts, freshly turned drums (11”), new shoes/spring kits/wheel cylinders, new brake lines, and rear cover.

Front Axle: Dana 25. Axle was disassembled, boiled, and completely rebuilt with new gaskets, seals, and bearings. Axle has 4.27 ring and pinion gears, new spring pads, new u-bolts, freshly turned drums (11”), new shoes/spring kits/wheel cylinders, new stainless braided flexible brake lines, new closed-knuckle seals, and ‘Warn’ locking hubs.

Chassis: Custom built 2” x 3” tube frame with: frame mounted 8-point roll cage, heavy duty spring perches, military-wrap springs, heavy duty shackles and shackle bolts (w/ greasable zerks), heavy duty shock absorbers, removable transmission cross-member, heavy duty motor mounts, tube brush bar & bumper, and GM Power steering (Saginaw box, 4.25 turns lock to lock).

General:

Fiberglass body and fenders, original windshield & grill shell. Wilwood aluminum swing pedal assembly & brake master cylinder. Offenhauser throttle linkage. Quick disconnect steering wheel. Holley high-volume electric fuel pump. Holley high pressure fuel regulator. Fram high-volume fuel filter. ½” aluminum fuel line.

Heavy Duty battery cables. Southwest speed battery box. Moroso battery disconnect. Diamond plate dashboard with grab bar. Autogauge gauges. ‘KC Daylighter’ headlights. Wheels are 15” X 10” Ansen aluminum slots. Tires are 33 X 12.50 X 15. They don’t appear to have been used much as they have a ton of tread.

All the gauges (speedometer/odometer, oil pressure, voltmeter, & temperature) work. All lights (headlights, tail lights, brake lights, gauge lights) work. Seats are fully adjustable high back buckets, and are fairly comfortable. The wiper motor is new, but has never been hooked up.

The willys runs, drives, handles, and stops good. The 10” torque convertor seems to stall too high, if I kept it, I would replace it with a stock 12” convertor. The paint is not perfect, and there are a few holes that are an eyesore (hole for an antennae & a hole for a gas tank filler tube…see pics). The windshield frame has some rust (see pics).

Willys also comes with 4 KC Daylighters, a 2 sets of 3” seat belts, steel diamond plate rocker supports, and a steel diamond plate rear surround (see pictures). Please ask any and all questions. Thanks for looking, Doug”

1946_cj2a_murphysUPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6000

(09/08/2009) Here’s an early ’46 with the driver-side cutouts.  It appears in very good shape.  Nice looking shop, too.
