Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “53 Willys M38-A1 Military Gunner Jeep. This model has the highly desired heavy duty turret frame because they were often used with a tripod mounted 50 caliber machine gun.
This Jeep now sports a ’69 Chevy 327 V-8 engine w/overdrive, 4-stick shifts (4-speed, 2wd-4wd, Hi-Lo, Overdrive), power steering, power brakes, Warn Locking hubs all around so you can tow it free-wheeling. Two Heaters. An extra external radiator fan. Two gas tanks. New modern fuse box built into custom glove box.

“This is an Army 1952 Jeep Willys. 24 Volt (2 batteries). I did originally drive it but it now has a head gasket problem beyond my ability to repair. I’m a 26 year vet who was hoping to drive this jeep and enjoy past memories. It needs a mechanics touch. I will add more information and pictures shortly as it also comes with a army trailer, doors and top, roll bar, a metal rack that slides into the trailer hitch, chains, and a variety of other accessories i.e. (heater) etc. Serious buyers only please/cash sale (I have the title). “1953 Willys M38 flat fender with original Army data tags with Bill of Sale only, never titled or registered and not street legal. This little Jeep is in great shape with very little rust and lots of maintenance and upgrades. Includes a full top and doors, tow bar, rear hitch rack, rifle rack and a tote full of spare parts. It starts and runs, but can be a little finicky to drive smoothly and does leak oil from various places. It has a full new fuel system, new fuel tank, electric fuel pump and new downdraft carb. Overall this is a great rig and would be perfect for a deer lease or to teach a kid to drive a manual on a country road. Will consider trade offers for TJ Wrangler or ‘97-‘01 XJ.”

“Up for sale is my 1952 Willys M38. This jeep has a Kubota V2203 Turbo Diesel Engine installed with a full kit from Overland Diesel out if Canada. The jeep runs and drives great. It also has the disk brake conversion from Brennans Garage. It has a T90c transmission and a lock rite locker in the rear. It has led headlights, aluminum radiator, full 2 inch exhaust, new shocks etc, tightsteer installed and 32-10-15 tires on it. It also has an (arctic) hard top original for the m38. This jeep has thousands of dollars spent on it. Full specs available if serious”

“Zero rust, clean frame, extremely smooth running M38. Every inch of this old Jeep has been gone over and been cleaned and serviced. 9 out of 10 mechanically with original data plates, and Army stencils. There are 47,851 miles on the restored odometer.
This original L134 runs and starts perfectly. Serviced by a new fuel system, Carter W-O carburetor, intake/exhaust manifold, radiator, and oil filter, this engine runs smooth and strong. A new 12V alternator and all new electrical system runs the lights and gauges.
You will not find any rust on the frame or body of this well-kept M38. Lots of old red “barn paint” was removed to reveal the original olive drab paint. With a little work, this body will be ready for new paint, or you can enjoy this Willys with authentic character.”

Has some hat channel rot, but the floors are supposed to be solid. The windshield has quite a bit of rot.
“1951 Willys MC (M38) radio jeep. runs, drives, stops. Has an all new brake system. Engine is still 24V. Underhood batery box, air filter, and crossover tube not pictured but included. We took this jeep on a 250mi trip last fall and it did great. Front floors are solid and functional but hat channels underneath are in poor shape. All other rust is in pictures, mostly the passenger side. This is a good jeep to drive & enjoy as is, but would aslo make a good restoration candidate. The hood numbers are still legible and i uncovered markings which show that it was a radio jeep, with an AN/GRC-7 radio. Civilian gas tank in pics is not included, neither is the battery under the hood. Clean title in my name. Located in SW Indiana”

“Willys Jeep parts M38 style with some differences. Tailgate has all reinforcements but never had holes drilled to mount the tire or gas can. Grill has military and civilian features. I think this may have been a DJ when Willys built it, they often used up leftover and over run parts for the DJ’s.
The one large section of transmission cover pictured has been sold.
M38 hood has been sold, now includes a Willys stamped hood in fair condition.
$450 for all or message for individual parts.”
