Patrick’s ‘New’ Fiberglass Flattie

• CATEGORIES: Builds, CJ-2A • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Patrick recently purchased this flattie.  It’s now road ready and a great deal of fun.

He writes, I have always had a passion for old military jeeps, even as a young kid. Can’t explain other than I think they are just cool. When I was 16, I lived in Iowa and purchased my first vehicle (I’m almost 50 now): a 1947 willys cj2a, that the previous owner had done some updating to with a 327 chevy Engine/headers/big tires. I bought it for a $1500 and thought it was THE coolest thing ever. Ever. I promptly spent the rest of my wealth (about $500) painting it. Bad ass brown.

I got about 500 miles of the hottest, ragin-est, death-defying days of my life racing and 4-wheeling that thing (invincible at 16, right?) before the natural laws of having to pay for and fix the things that gave out (plus I’m non mechanical) set in and I couldn’t afford to do that. And had to pay for it by selling it for $500 in non working order. That was 1980.

I’ve owned various newer jeeps (last was an 89 wrangler), and cars since then, but I always knew someday that I’d go back to my first love and fix one of these bad boys up hot rod style.

Last year was that year. In August, I stumbled onto eWillys from a random google search. It set off the bell in my head that it was possible to find and own one of these jeeps again, so after about a month of searching every day on your site, one struck my fancy and I set out to buy it.

The previous owners are a family of professional desert racing enthusiasts who had a family friend (also professional racer) that built this Jeep from the ground up as a labor of love in the late 90’s/early 2000 with the intention of using the best pieces/parts for desert 4-wheelin/rock climbing.

The friend had to sell, and sold to the family who basically have every toy under the sun (it was being stored in an airport hangar),
never used, and they finally decided to sell just to make room for something else They decided to sell as a whole because they wanted to pass it on to someone who would love it as much as their friend had before he had to sell.

For whatever reason, I was in the right place at the right time and purchased this vehicle on the spot for cash.

Because it was setup for off-roading, I’ve spent the better part of 7 months and $$$ to get the thing street worthy and safe enough to drive on the freeway. Now it stops like a normal car (Hydroboost!).

The engine is a horse, but required a bit of transformation from an initial fuel injected system (variable H.P.up to 500 H.P. but didn’t idle at low rpm’s so well with the big cam and hard on transmission) to a traditional carb system. Some $$$ went into this process (pumps/distributor/wiring/tuning etc.).

2 different shops have worked on it and contributed to the point that it is now, which is, happily, fully operational and most awesome.

I have had it out of the shop for 2 weeks now and have already been able to enjoy this thing immeasurably. I envision having it the rest of my life.

1945 MB Las Vegas, NV **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: MB • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **SOLD** … Was listed at $12,495.

There are some minor issues that keep this from being a completed restoration, but this looks solid.

“1945 WWII Willys Jeep (MB) with .50 Cal Machine Gun

This is an authentic WWII U.S. Army 1945 Willys Jeep (MB) with a real M2 .50 Cal. ‘Ma Duce’ (non-firing) Machine Gun, both in great condition.

GUN:

The .50 Cal MG has all original gun parts except the left and right side panels. The gun can be made to fire propane but can NOT be made to fire live ammunition and therefore does not require any special permits.

The charging handle operates perfectly just like an original gun and will cycle ammunition. A belt of display ammo is included as is a WW2 .50 ammo box.

The mount is also an authentic military MG mount and is NOT a repop or home built mount.

Included is an authentic military canvas gun cover, NOT homemade or a repop and a .50 Cal Gun Crate built from original military specs to carry and store the gun when on the Jeep.
Please note that the gun will be sold with the Jeep and will NOT be sold separately under any circumstances or offers.

JEEP:

The Jeep runs like a champ and starts up every time.

The vehicle was restored by me a few years ago and has been used in a movie, TV program, parades and car shows.

The engine is war time engine with the correct T-84 transmission. It’s been converted to a 12 volt system but contains many 6 volt parts for appearances purposes.
Engine compartment contains all accurate parts as would appear on a 45 Willys such as fuel filter, fuel pump, air cleaner, oil can, horn, regulator box, lube chart and grease gun.

The ‘tub’, is also an original war time tub and is in great condition (NOT a repop). The frame is in good condition but has been repaired. A rebuilt war-time frame, primed and ready to install is available but is NOT included in the sale.

All US stars and markings are exact and accurate to 1945 WW2 Jeep of the ETO.

Canvas top, seats, windshield cover are all brand new from Beachwood Canvas.
Includes five original WW2 combat rims (not repop).

The Jeep is all there as it stands and does not need anything to make road and car show ready, but for those who would like to tinker on it there are few minor items that could be finished off.

The Jeep is currently registered and insured here in Nevada with a clear Nevada title. Out of state buyers are responsible for pickup, but transportation is available to some locations at an additional cost. Payment is to be in cash or certified bank check that would be cashed on delivery before the title is signed over.
No out of state or country ‘check scammers’ will even be considered.

Asking price for the Jeep with the gun as it stands is $12,500.00”

Year? M-38 Conesville, Oh eBay

• CATEGORIES: M-38, trailer • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The seller notes a serial number of 122349 and a year of 1946.  However, Neither the VIN nor the year corresponds to a M-38.

“This is a M38 Willys Jeep that has been TOTALLY restored from the ground up. Just about everything on this Jeep is brand new. New tires, body, seals, canvas, shackles, seats, rubber seals, hoses, brake lines, brakes, wheel cylinders, exhaust, bumpers, etc. The Jeep is practicaly brand new as if it just came off the assembly line in Toledo. Original parts were sandblasted to insure it would look like brand new. The Jeep as you can see has been used in many parades and has been on display in Jeep dealerships in OH, WV, PA, KY, IN, MI and more. The Jeep comes with the M100 trailer that has also been fully restored. Reason I am selling it is we have three more of these in our yard to restore plus we haven’t had much of a demand for the Jeep for parades and such this past year and instead of putting it in storage for the winter I decided to sell it. You can see the complete restore process by going to www.DisplayJeeps.com/M38 The title we have says 1946 but the Jeep is an M38 other than it has been converted to 12 volts. Starts everytime and runs like a champ.”

On the interior, the oak floorboards are all intact and have been refinished. All of the seats are also intact however the fabric is ripping in some places. The worst part about the Jeep is there is some body damage on the driver side, rear quarter panel. Power brakes (new master cylinder),

Year? M-38 Ogden, NC $1500

• CATEGORIES: M-38 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

It runs and drives and, best of all, is a chick magnet (so says the seller)!  To the seller’s credit, he does not recommend driving this on the open road in its current condition, so you will have to find your chicks in the woods (I guess).  the seller lists this as a CJ-2A, but the body suggest it is a M-38.

“i’ve got a 1947 cj2a willys, titled, and currently registered and insured with the state of nc thanks to our state’s lack of a safety inspection!   The body had rust holes in it but the floor boards are pretty good.

The frame has rusted, broken, and been “repaired” by joe dirt, and has since broken again on both sides towards the front.
The engine smokes and it was having overheating issues… could be as easy as the radiator, could be as bad as a headgasket or cracked head… no clue…

Transmission grinds a lot and pops out of 2nd gear. Transfer case is a CHAMP! works great. Brakes work good most of the time but could use some work, just like everything else on the jeep.

Steering is as loose as the hooker you can find most nights at castle and front st. yikes! wheels and tires are good. but the windshield is broken….

lights work. it has a sweet oooooooga horn. and it has seat frames! toss some pizza boxes on them and you’re good to go!
oh, and ALL the gauges were replaced with new ones last summer. fuel sending unit is not currently installed, but gauge is. speedometer cable came loose last week when i was driving it…. just as it clicked past 500 miles which is all i’ve driven it since i bought it a year ago and put it together. spent about $500 on gauges and switches.

all wiring is new with all new switches. far from perfect, but very functional and fused.  battery is 1 year old.  gm 12v alternator is 1 year old. electronic distributor is 1 year old. screw points, i’m not smart enough to adjust them.

starter was rebuilt by alternator specialist about 6 months ago. i’m assuming it has a warranty? not sure but that cost me about $275 as it was originally a 6v starter and is now 12v

this thing has been a blast for the last year. i bought it with the plans to make it road worthy and reliable and after seeing how much work it needed i decided i’d drive it until i broke it. well, it’s about to break if it doesn’t get some tlc so it’s time to sell it! buy her, fix her up, and turn a nice profit or fix it up enough to drive it to the bar and make all your friends jealous…

entire thing is spray painted sweeeet od green…. and i mean the entire thing…. wheels, shocks, tub, frame, brakes, wires, engine, everything that the paint would stick to

Asking $1500 for it, as is. i’ve got the title sitting in front of me, ready to go! i’ll drive it to your house if you don’t live too far from my place in ogden….. or you can trailer it home. i would not suggest driving this on the open road as it sits right now. she takes a little getting used to ;)”

2 Dodge Command Cars Parlin, NJ **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Other 4x4s This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1700.

I always thought a Dodge Command Car would be a fun vehicle to own. I know nothing about them and they are probably as practical as Austin Champs, but they seem like they’d be fun projects.

“Offered for sale is a pair of WWII era dodge command cars…… I really do not know much about these things so I got a quick lesson and valuation from a local dodge guru…..

I am told both rigs are 1/2 ton 1941 wc-6’s.

The first rig is fairly complete with decent sheet metal and a frame with factory winch extensions on it. The motor turns over and most of the extraneous parts (fenders, windshield, winch, headlight buckets, etc.) are in the back of the bed. It has the original front seat frame. The dash on this truck has square gauge cutouts (the dodge guy told me this is an early dash but I cannot confirm that) and the data tag on the dash is intact.

The second rig is a rolling chassis (non-winch type) with a transfer case in it. This was intended as a donor rig for the first truck and the body is separated into panel sections and stacked on the frame.
The dash on this rig has round gauge cutouts.

These originally belonged to an older gentleman who had begun work on the first rig using the second as a donor. He passed several years ago and they sat until I ended up with them…..

There are no titles for these rigs — they will come with a notarized bill of sale only………

If anyone has any questions or would like to come look at them in person, please email me………The vehicles are located in Parlin, NJ……..

UPDATE:  Still Available

I hope someone can buy and properly restore Les’ Jeep (assuming the documentation confirms it was his jeep).  For those that don’t know, Les Schwab bought a tire store in Prineville in 1952 that has become a 330+ store chain here in the west (company history).  Not bad for a guy who became an orphan at the age of 15.  I didn’t know him, but everything I’ve heard suggests he was a man of his word.  According to one reader, he was an early champion of the Formula Desert Dogs.  Les passed away in the summer of 2007.

“This jeep was one of Les Schawb’s that he had on his ranch for over 30 years. I have all DMV documentation and current registration”

Gerald and I were exchanges some emails and he mentioned that his brother and he rebuilt a Mitey Mite a few years back.  I think he was trying to inspire me with the Champs?  Here are a few pics.

Gerald wrote, “My brother did a Mity Mite a few years back.   Toughest project we ever worked on.  It was a basket case literally.”
