1950 CJ-3A Heber City, Ut eBay

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3A • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  This is now on eBay. It was listed at $3500 on Craigslist.

(05/12/2011)  Originally, this ad noted this jeep included “a unique rear body extension made in southern California and sold by Jeep dealers.”  However, I’ve yet to run across another one of these.

“This is an all original , never abused Potomic Grey 1950 Willys CJ3a. This isn’t a Willys you will find everyday, a true SURVIVOR! It’s a highly documented, rust free NO BONDO virgin body, California Jeep with 53,672 original miles (mostly freeway tow miles). This Jeep lived all its life on a nursery in Southern California up until 2004. The original owner kept a detailed history of the jeep in a 3 ring binder full of pictures from the 50s, 60s and 70s, old registrations, receipts and other documents. This Jeep has its original Black plates from the 60s and is 100% NUMBERS MATCHING including the original engine, transmission, transfercase, and axle. This jeep has never been pulled apart, not anything including the engine or transmission and the amazing thing is that everything still works. All the gauges work and the gauge light. It drives like a new vehicle, the engine has never been apart and still has its original black paint on it. The engine runs perfectly, has a lot of power, scoots the Jeep right down the road and doesn’t smoke or miss period! It sounds so quiet and smooth while idling. The original floor push starter is still there and real blast to operate. The transmission shifts great without any grinding. This is an incredibly rust free Jeep that was painted Potomic Grey from the factory and still retains a lot of original paint, pretty hard to come by these days. The wheels are all original with the factory Harvard Red paint and pinstripe still intact. As mentioned before this is a dry California Jeep and the amazing thing about this Jeep is how original the body is and how unabused it is. It has all original body panels including beautiful original floor, side panels, hood, fenders and tailgate. I can’t emphasize enough on how solid this Jeep is, there are ZERO cracks anywhere on the frame nor the body, quite remarkable!!! I’ve had 3 other Willys over the years and had friends with them as well and all of them had cracks in several areas on the body and frame and this one doesn’t! The bumpers are original with the original factory rivets, and again no cracks up front around the front leaf spring shackle brackets, that plagues most Willys. The under floor underfloor support channel braces are straight, warp free and crack free! The fenders are super straight, as well with the rest of the body being dent free!! The bed is surprisingly straight, darn near dent free, only a few very small dents. The body is virgin with no accidents or repairs of any kind. The under seat tool compartment is solid rust free which is next to impossible to find. The seats have been recovered with correct covers.  If I could emphasize one thing, it would be how original this Jeep really is, it still retains all the original wiring and mohair shrouding between the radiator and grill (see picture). The side steps are original to the Jeep, they were actually an option back when new and are usually missing or all bent up from hitting objects, these are perfect still. The original horn still works! The Jeep obviously has not ever been hacked up or modified at all and still retains the single taillight, never modified or had holes drill for a second. And last, but not least, it comes with a rare bed extension attachment option. This is pretty self explanatory, it provides a longer bed. The extension can be removed very easily if preferred, I suspect in a matter of about 20 minutes or so. Thanks for looking and Happy Holidays!”

1950 CJ-3A Oroville, CA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3A • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

This has a couple interesting features.  The first is the unusual body extender.  The seller says this is a factor original extension (which differs from the Koenig aftermarket extension).  I have not encountered a factory body extension. There is no evidence for one at the CJ-3B Page either.  The small bars in place to act as supports underneath are different than I have see as well, though could have been replaced.

The second is the rare crankshaft driven PTO which along with the mechanicals for a rear PTO.  The body looks pretty solid, per the seller’s description.  There is some work to be done, but this might be worth a look.

“Here’s a real nice, basically rust free jeep. Only rust is surface rust that you can remove by running a rag over it. This jeep seems to be a nice find. Has ordered from factory winch & brackets, PTO unit, PTO lever & winch levers, as seen in picture, on floor passenger side, Also, governer & PTO unit for rear of jeep in good shape. Also comes with a factory rear body extension, very rare. Appears to have nothing missing, as pictures will show. Motor is not froze up and turns freely by hand. Carburator, intake manifold & lifter cover are off the engine, but all the bolts and parts are there. I do not know why these items were removed from jeep, due to death of the man that used to own this jeep. Due to there being two manifolds, I am guessing there might have been a miss due to an air leak or gasket leak, and possibly he bought new manifold to solve the problem, again I don’t know. As seen in the pictures, the hat channel under this jeep, is not all rusted out and body has never been removed. Again, very clean, very nice jeep. Call for more info or pictures.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3000.

(08/27/2012) This doesn’t have a title. It looks like it has some life left.

“This is a 1946-47 Willys CJ-2A Jeep set up for use as a hunting jeep. This jeep runs great with low hours on an older engine rebuild. The body is not a candidate for restoration but it is sound. Custom front and rear bumpers with an extended platform and tow bar on the front bumper. The bed has been completely replaced with steel plate and a custom tailgate that folds out into a bed extension for additional carrying capacity. Engine has been converted to 12V with an alternator. New water pump, new electric backup fuel pump, rebuilt carburator and new battery. Good brakes with new wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Freshly rebuilt transmission and transfer case. Excellent oversize off-road tires. Newly upholstered seats. This jeep is ready to load up and go hunting. I also have a custom built hunting tower that fits on the jeep. It needs some work but I will throw it in if you want it. No title. Bill of Sale only. I have owned the jeep for almost 30 years and to my knowledge it has never been licensed.”

1954 CJ-3B Tehachapi, CA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: *SOLD** Was on eBay

Is this a one off or an aftermarket extension of some kind.

“The Good:
This vehicle is quite complete. No major components are missing. Frame has minimal surface rust. Floorboards are solid, Only a few rust through areas on body. It has an unusual extension at the rear of the body, could be rare.

The Bad:
Will need complete restoration. Fenders bent, no windshield or mirrors, engine is seized. Left front brake binds at times (hard to push vehicle). /font>

I purchased this thinking I would fix it up. However, I’ve got too many projects, and not enough time or money to pursue them all. This vehicle sat out in the elements for quite a while. It looks like some kids put sticks and rocks in the radiator, battery and probably the engine. I have no paperwork for it, the guy I bought it from didn’t either. It’s been out of California’s system so long that it should be easy to get a duplicate title. I’d be happy to fill out a bill of sale if needed.”

Engine and transmission in great shape, but the suspension needs to be replaced. The body is very much restorable. I am only interested in serious offers on this Jeep…No tire kickers please. Extended CJ-2A in Spain, but there is a small problem . . .

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Features, Unusual • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Roberto’s friend Mr. Paco, has run into some bureaucracy trying title his Jeep.  I will let Roberto explain the details.

Let me introduce you the Willys CJ2A jeep owns by my friend mr. Paco, who lives at Valladolid, Spain. The jeep was found years ago at a farm (barn find!!!) and have belonged to an aristocratic dame, if I´m not wrong.

As you could see in the pics, it has a very curious extended body conversion with short hard-top and that´s the reason to ask your help. We would like to know if this kind of conversion could be done at the States as an extra ordered by the customer, or the institution which imported to Spain. Paco wants to get a tittle for his jeep as an historic vehicle and it seems that here, he needs to claim that this kind conversion was made at the factory. I mean, that this characteristic is “historical”. If not, he should modify again it to be a standard CJ2A jeep…Absurd, and illogical, as the guy who has pointed him this doesn´t care about the possibility of a local conversion made at Spain…isn´t would be this “historical” too? Burocracy, absurd and illogical burocracy…

I responded to Roberto writing that while I knew a small outfit in California created CJ-2Ls by expanding the middle of some CJ-2As, I was not aware of any aftermarket group nor any Willys option to have the bodies extended in the rear (despite plenty of examples of jeeps that have been extended in the rear).  Does anyone else know anything different?

Here are some examples of jeeps extended at the back.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2700.

(01/30/2011) I thought this hood solution was an unusual way to deal with the longer frame.  I’m wondering if the frame is from a CJ-6?

“Selling my 1964 Jeep Willy X Flat Fender CJ-3A that has a new 390 V8 Offenhauser Engine. The engine has about 15,000 miles on it. It is a beast of an engine. You may want this jeep just for the Engine and parts to put into something you’re working on. this engine would be great for any hot rod or racing vehicle. The jeep is in great running condition and has alot of power. A great off road vehicle. It also looks really cool and has custom body work. I bought this jeep with the intent of driving it and fixing it up, but i haven’t had the money to do alot, i’ve done a few things, but it’s time to get something different to drive. I don’t want to put any more money into this jeep and second I need to get a different car. I have a family now and need something with doors lol. This jeep has power steering, tilt wheel, new dash with new dials, 3-speed transmission, locking hubs, nice rims with Pirelli tires. I’m asking for $2700 or best offer. I am also willing to take a vehicle trade. If you have something, show me and we’ll go from there. Cash is preferred though. Available to see anytime. Msg me for more info. Will answer back immediately.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1900.

(12/12/2010) Here’s a CJ-2A worth a closer look.  The windshield also looks a little unusual. Based on the pics at the bottom, I’d guess this was an aftermarket extension (rather than a custom job).

“1946 Willys cj2a Jeep. This Jeep starts runs and can be driven. It is in very good shape for 64 years old. It has a PTO driven winch mounted on the front bumper. The seats have been recovered. it has new fuel lines and a new 6 volt battery. The Jeep has a leak in the brake system.

The jeep came from a cabin in northern Arizona town. It also has some 1950s modifications, that extends the rearend for extra storage. This jeep has a valid Arizona Title and is priced for a quick sale this weekend.”

1947 CJ-2A with extended rear Ramona, Ca **Status Unknown**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Unusual • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **Status Unknown** was on eBay

This is very interesting.  The rear on this seems similar to the rear extension on yesterday’s lead Colorado jeep.  The seller believes this is an ambulance.  I searched for an example of CJ-2A ambulance, but have yet to find any images that verifies one was built (though I’ve seen other extended CJ-2As). It seems more like a utility rig to me, especially given what appear to be utility racks above.  I also believe the lack of a siren (or spot on the roof where one was mounted), also suggests it wasn’t an ambulance.  None-the-less, the starting bid of $650 is a good price and  it would be an interesting rig to restore.  The seller provides a great, detailed review of this.

“I have never seen another jeep exactly like this. Its pretty rare. It is a left hand drive (so, its clearly not a postal jeep), its a flat fender, 4 wheel drive Willys jeep with an extended body and ambulance racks. (I do have a similar Swedish Jeep included in the photos for reference.) It needs restoration.

The metal tub is extended 24” and looks to be all original work from the time of manufacturing, it is well done and very unique. The extension is aft of the rear wheels as pictured.

The most amazing aspect of this jeep is the aircraft style aluminum top (“Tin Top”, if you will).  The top has what I am told are stretcher ‘stays”. We were told this is an ambulance, and by all appearances, it would function as an ambulance. The top itself is original to the jeep and done professionally, its solid and riveted to perfection.

The top has functioning aluminum side storage doors and rear body aluminum storage doors that open and lock (as pictured). The top interior has metal caged storage areas, all are sturdy and have been in place about 60 years, holding up to the test of time!

The lower body is steel with age appropriate and reparable rust, but has been in California for many years and much of it is surface rust. The floor board rust and a couple other rust areas will need more elbow grease and restoration than other areas and is more than surface rust. You have to ask me questions on this and look at the photos as some of the rust will need actual rust repair. I want you to know the needs of this project so that you are happy with your purchase.

The front grill is temporarily attached for engine replacement, it will need to be bolted back in properly.

The original tail gate is in tact and functioning.

The original tilt-out windshield frame is there, minus the glass (you guys know how easy this is to get replaced).

All original gauges are there (no broken glass!)

All original latches (windshield, seat, etc.) are present

Original drivers seat is present and functioning (needs restore)

Passengers seat present (original?)

Original gas tank

Original shifter levers

Original 4×4 transfer case

Original Axles

Original Transmission

Original Two Piece Hood

Original fenders

Original Tub

Original Steering Wheel

Original Steering Gear

Original aluminum “sun visor” (over windshield area)

Military Style Pintle hitch  mount in rear

Tow Bar attached to the front

Has 5 on 5.5 Jeep lugs will need new tires, but rolls freely as is

Will need new brakes, original brake cylinder is in place

Mechanical:  The axles, transfer case and transmission are all in the jeep.  Both driveshafts have been removed, but the original rear driveshaft and also, 1/2 of the front driveshaft are both included in a large box of parts that go with the Jeep. You guys know you can get these driveshafts with ease.

The engine is not installed but is included as well. It was removed for restoration (so that part of the job is already done!). It will need obvious restoration, but is not clearly not seized as the crank is out of the block. If I were to complete the project, I’d give it an acid bath and re-assemble. You will have to purchase a single rod and piston (which is available at “Border Parts” in San Diego), plus purchase the correct fly wheel (there is a fly wheel, but it does not appear to be correct), everything else is present including motor mounts and the head (as pictured). The engine is what I was told to be the original engine. It is a Willys flat head 4, has an original 1958 job tag riveted to the block (see pictures).

The attached engine job tag shows 2 cylinders, 1 rod and one main bearing was replaced in 1958 (again, see the pictures of the metal riveted on job tag).

The camshaft and valves are still in the block.  Also included are 3 rod and piston assemblies, the crankshaft, main bearing blocks, side valve cover, manifold, exhaust, oil pan, head, etc.

MISC. INFO.:

We can not know the actual mileage as the paint has faded.

At some point in the past, a pipe vise was added to the front bumper, it can easily be removed.  Also, barely visible below the driver’s windshield is a red stenciled ” FIVE STAR GENERAL” .  No, I don’t believe it was a real 5-star general, just a guy who was very happy with his unique jeep.

This Jeep is sold with a bill of sale only, it is a collectible and will need to be restored before going on the road, however, both VIN tags are attached as photographed, this will be an easy registration (and NO smog required :).”

Army Depot DJ-3A? Alexander City, Al eBay

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A, Unusual • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The starting bid on this unusual DJ-3A is $2499.  I would be VERY interested to see the underside of this body to see what exactly happened to the rear of this vehicle.  This has a picture of some kind of Atlanta Army Depot tag, but I don’t know if this is real or not. Note that I had to lighten parts of a couple of the pics, which is why they look a little odd.

“I am not sure what year model this is or model. I am going by what I have been told and what I have seen on the internet. I think it is a DJ-3A 2 wheel drive delivery Jeep somewhere around a 50 model. It does run and drive I have driven it around the parking lot some. I think it has a blown head gasket. I have a new extra engine still in the crate flat head 4 cylinder engine and 3 speed manual trans. I have this for sale local and will end it if it sales. It has some rust in the floors and a few other places as you can see in the pics. I do not have a title. Alabama does not issue a title for a vehcile older that a 75. I will issue you a Notarized Bill of Sale. E-mail me any questions you have.”

I’d like to take a closer look at this one.  I suspect this might be an ambulance or troop carrier of some kind.

“1948 willys jeep with a Ford bronco v6 engine. Was running and being used when an axle broke. Has been parked since, about 10 years. Comes with lots of extras including tranfer cases, transmissions, a hard and a soft top, blade hardware and odds and ends.”
