Bruce surprised me today with some pics of a Fire Jeep.  He noted that after reading the section that includes Fire Jeeps, he thought I might be interested in seeing a couple pics of Art’s Jeep.  After reviewing the pics, I asked him for permission to publish them.  Bruce was kind enough to contact Art, who in turn has been nice enough to let me share them with you.  If you haven’t seen Art’s Jeep on the CJ-3B page or at one of the Willy’s reunions, then you are in for a treat.

One of the more interesting factoids I ran across while doing a search for Art’s Jeep on the internet was a discussion on the CJ-2A Page Forum regarding Bill’s effort to include Art’s Jeep in a Calendar of Fire Vehicles.  It turns out that Daimler Chrysler wants a piece of any Calendar pie for showing a Jeep Grille (specifically, a $500 guarantee and 12% royalties).

So, that got me thinking. What about Jeeps on pay websites?  Could Daimler, for example, begin asking for royalties from a site like the Jeep Forum, which has paying members, on which plenty of images of a Jeep Grille exist?  At this point, my opinion is they can’t, because they haven’t enforced their rights (if they even have them) to do so.  But, I’m gonna research this more.

This looks sharp.  It looks like the dashboard was smoothly modified.

“This is a COMPLETELY restored Willys Jeep from 1946, the first year of the CJ (Civilian Jeep). It has a clean Texas title and is registered as an antique auto. Every part of this jeep has been reconditioned, refurbished or replaced. The original flat-head 4 cylinder engine has been totally rebuilt with new pistons, rings, bearings and seals. The 3-speed transmission and transfer case have both been rebuilt including new bearings. The front and rear axles have been rebuilt with new seals, bearings and shims. The front and rear bumpers are custom built with hitch receivers. All the wiring is new, with six AutoMeter gauges in the dash. The electrical system has been converted to 12 volts. This Jeep comes with a new Bestop folding soft top. There are a few more improvements from stock, such as a 12 volt alternator in place of the original 6 volt generator, and new, more comfortable seats and seat belts. For sale, the SS Dutch. Finding this jeep and trailer for sale was a real treat.  First of all, Mike has created a well documented build of both the trailer and the jeep.  Second, the changes and thought processes have been documented on two separate blogs (see post below), so there’s plenty to review.  Third, he’s got the best site I have run across related to CJ-6s.

Mike writes on a recent post, “It’s not without a bit of sadness and trepidation that I post this.  After 6 years of ownership and a whole lot of blood, sweat and gears I’ve arrived at the decision to put both SSDutch—a 1964 CJ6—and my 1950 Bantam Jeep trailer up for sale.

Mostly this is due to our recent decision to go on the road for a year but I’ve also noticed that I’ve had a lack of interest in working on it for some time now.  In preparing for our trip the idea of just having the Jeep, trailer, and related piles of parts gone is more peace-inducing than the notion of having to arrange storage for all of it.”

It sure looks nice.  I can’t see any rust in the pics, as they are small, but the seller says there is some.

“This is something I promised myself I would never do, but I need to sell my pride and joy to be able to get into a place to live. She is a ’51 Willys Wagon, all stock except motor which is a mid 70’s chevelle 307, which needs a head gasket due to a freeze she endured while in the middle of a nasty divorce. The body has some rust, due to living on the Oregon coast for a time. But it all can be fixed. She has a Warn over drive, professionally tinted glass, Boyd wheels and Warn hubs that you swap for off road use or hwy use. New MagnaFlow exhaust from the manifolds back. I have all the paperwork for her that came from the man that did the restoration before I got her.She has back seats as well. Like I said, I don’t want to let her go, but I have to do something to get my family by until steady work comes along. She has never seen mud since I never wanted to hurt her. “1942 WILLYS “Stat Grille” (¼ ton General Purpose Vehicle) JEEP.

This JEEP has been fully restored to the military exactness as it came off the line in Toledo, Ohio on March 5, 1942. Military Serial Number is 124833 and common features included no glove box, a round muffler, oil bath air cleaner/air filter, rubber hood bumpers, solid wheels, two hinges on the tool box lids, three bolt spare tire carrier, no blackout driving lamps, makers name on the rear panel, and a slat grill on the WILLYS.

This early Jeep comes complete with a mounted Garand carbine replica, strapped ax and shovel, and canvas top, and the frame plate for machine gun mount.

All numbers match manufacturer’s designation: model MB, serial number, 124833, build number 24832, and official government contract numbers; 303-ORD-2529 and army quartermaster corp. 398-QM-888 order forms, and hood number assigned 2042364. “W” was added at the base to distinguish Willys from Ford in later runs. Original “Go-Devil” engine.

Around 200 slat grills are estimated to have survived through 2006, according to ARMY MOTORS, the official magazine of the Military Vehicle Preservation Assoc.

From there it served in the United States Army and was eventually retired to Ft. Bliss, OK as a base transport vehicle and was sold at public auction in 1955 to become a farm vehicle. Eventually it retired from its years as an agri-jeep to a salvage yard in Enid, OK where another farmer purchased it 1992 for $1,000. The present owner purchased it at a farm auction in Tuttle, OK on March 13, 2002 for the same $1,000. Although the Jeep was originally delivered to the government for $399.68.”

Dana 30 front diff 4:27 gears w/posi. Dana 44 Rear 4:27 gears w/posi, 35 X 10:50 X 15 super swamper radials on 15 X8 Chrome Chamber Aluminum ATX American Racing Wheels. Engine- 334 CI (304) has a 282 compitition roller cam kit, including roller tip rockers and a double roller timing gear set. high performance, ported & polished cylinder heads are off a 360 CI, 1968 javelin. intake is a polished edelbrock torquer w/edelbrock polished aluminum valve covers, using a 550 comp series carter carb, 4 core aluminum radiator, PSE power steering. The engine was balanced and dyno at 425 HP, at the flywheel. Trans- 727 race built automatic transmission w/5000 RPM stall convertor & full manual valve body, Cheetah shifter. “1947 Jeep Willys Pickup. 350 Chevy Motor with less then 100 Miles. 350 Turbo automatic transmission. Hurst click shifter. Interior need to be finished. Exrta parts  fenders, doors, grill. I have over 4500.00 dollars invested in the engine alone the tires are in excellient condition. This  vehicle is in driveable condintion is on a S10 chevy frame it has a stock rearend all the tires are new it has new brakes all around. I have extra fenders,grill,and doors it has most of the chrome. Someone else took the pictures the dash is stock , however above the mirror there is a little rust . as far as I know it has the original title listed as a 47  I lost my job is the reason It is being sold. We did replace the floor in it so that is all done except around by the steering coloum it needs to be finished out side of that the interior is in good shape it just needs to be finished up. the windshield is out of it right now cause the weather stripping was bad  however the windshield is in excellent shape. My son and I decided that would be agood time to redo around the windshield area. any more questions feel free to email me. BUT IT IS DRIVEABLE.”

(02/12/09) This CJ-2A has a number of custom details.  The engine compartment looks nicely laid out. This jeep also sports the enlarged windshield; I’m not certain if this is custom or an aftermarket product?? .

“1947 Willys jeep with Chevy 283 small block (runs great), 3 speed, NO RUST,set up for duel optima batteries, rewired the whole jeep, took all the old nuts and bolts and replaced them with new,full roll cage,costom bumpers, holds matching (new) 33×14.50 spare tire and Hi-lift jack mount, $600 Holey truck avenger, $800 clutch, Exhaust, rhino liner tub, excelent front seats with back bench seat (seat belts), Custom windsheild and doors that lock, custom Cooper top, Racho suspension (leaf springs, shocks, shackles) Dana 30 front with disc brakes and locker, Dana 44 rear,too much to remember but I have reciepts for allmost everything I’ve done to it in the last 14 years. I’ve only put around 200 miles on it since I’ve owned it which means everything is in like new condition except for paint has brush scratches, 2 ez fix dents (nothing bigger than a lemon). Dana 44 left side axle shaft is bent and needs to be replaced (not the whole axle assembly). Theres a lot more but cant remember everything. Point is.. if you like the jeep and you want something classic that is a major head turner for the family to enjoy for years to come like my family and I have enjoyed. It’s the most reliable old jeep in the world:) I used to put car seats in it and me and my girls would be off finding those hidden fishing holes and camp sites. I thought I would own this jeep for ever but I lost my good job and now I’m under paid and have to make big sacrifices. I’ve already done everything that needs to be done to an old jeep so now all you have to do is make me an offer and steal it. ”

(10/09/09) “Up for auction is this 1956 Willys CJ3B. This Jeep is in great shape with nearly no rust and mechanically sound. It does have its typically willys seal leaks, but very little. This Jeep was bought about a year ago and, have been working on it little by little to get it to where it is today. I run around town locally in it, take the kids around and use it as a great conversation piece at car shows. If I go to one next time it may win. I have gone as far as I want to go in the restore, it’s time for someone else look after this piece of American history.  This Jeep has many new parts and all steering, brakes, transmission, 4X4 and engine work very, very well. This jeep will only run at about 45 miles an hour, but this little one will climb anything. I am selling this Jeep locally and have the right to stop the auction at anytime. The pics aren’t the greatest, but this might be nice.

“I hate, hate, hate that I have to sell this Jeep. I purchased in the early 2000’s and have 293 recorded man hours into the restoration. I have a full photo album of pictures from the very early stages through completion. However, none are online. I have taken a few pictures of the pictures with my camera phone.

Too much detail to go into regarding the restoration, but I do have a printout of everything that went into it. It runs well and is started weekly to keep everything in working order. (11/14/09) Lots of updates to this CJ-3B.

“1958 Willys CJ3B High Hood Flat Fender Jeep.  Set up for off-road.  NO RUST! Total frame off restoration in 1995. MerCrusier 4.3L engine, with four barrel Holly Truck Avenger Carb. T-18 granny low 4-speed transmission, model 20 transfer case. Dana 44 axles out of an International Scout, with 4.88 gears and Detroit lockers front and rear. Four wheel disc brakes. Spring over conversion. 38×12.50 Super Swamper tires with little wear. Late model power steering with 1” solid tie rods and Hyme joints, tilt steering column out of late model Jeep. Custom roll cage, racing seats. Large removable storage box in place of rear seat. Filled with spare parts including; fr/rr drive shafts, complete set of spare axles, and other various parts. Also have rear seat which can be reinstalled easily. Custom storage box mounted in rear receiver hitch. Front mounted Warn 8274 winch and on board air compressor. Two tops: Full soft top and bikini half top.  Also CB radio, battery cut-off switch, hydraulic clutch, optima battery, custom nerf bars/rock guards.”

(12/09/09) This looks in good condition.  I’ll be heading down to Salt Lake (ogden is right on the way) in about 10 days and could look at it if it is still available.

1960 Willys CJ3B – 35K Original miles in Excellent Condition with All Original Running Gear. Frame and body are in exceptional condition, there is very little cancer. Has New Interior & Paint. Needs a top, new tires, and a tune up.From the looks of the vehicle the mileage which shows 40K is original and I think many are miles towed. There is very little rust in the front floors but it has plates bolted in, none in the bed. There is also some in the front fender supports. I don’t thinkit was preped to well butit is a decent paint job. It hasbeen converted to 12 volt. There is no overdrive but the tans and transfercase seem tight and do stay in gear. the seats are he original frames but have been recovered (I believe). It has original warn lockout hubs. The hard top was taken upto eugene and it is an original aluminum hardtop,I maybe able to get pictures.
