M-38 Body and Vintage Parts in Chickamauga, GA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Body Parts, Parts • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Body was $700.

This is a 1952 Willys M38 body tub. This has a new front floor pan installed as well as a right rear 1/4 panel and side. It also has some other patching done on non original holes. It will need several more welded up. It has been sand blasted and primed but the former owner let it get damp under a tarp and there is some light surface rust. This was originally a communications jeep so there are holes for the radio equiptment as well as the antana mounts and cable holes. It just needs finishing.

Doug’s 4-Wheelers in Pella, IA

Dave Brevard saw Doug’s 4-Wheelers during a recent trip.

He writes, “On our way from North Carolina to the Willys Reunion in Missouri we detoured
and spent some time visiting our daughter in Iowa. The attached pictures show some of the Jeeps at a salvage yard about 4 miles east of Pella, Iowa. There are more there, but I wasn’t dressed properly to push through the tall weeds and investigate. All are really rough, but have lots of parts.”

Rudys CJ Shop in Findlay, Ohio

• CATEGORIES: CJ-7, CJ5, Features, Website • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Doug spotted this ad (http://limaohio.craigslist.org/pts/3736548170.html), which led me to Rudy’s CJ Website: http://www.rudys-cjs.com

Rudy’s is located in Findlay, Ohio, and specializes in 1976-1983 CJ-5s, CJ-7s and CJ-8s (scramblers). They sell both complete jeeps and parts.

According to the website, Rudy’s forte is “selling originally rot free, unpatched CJs for you to take to the next level or personalize or enjoy in it’s original glory as it sits.  Our philospophy is that all the mechanicals can be easily resolved but it is only original metal once.  We do not do any fiberglass Jeeps nor do we ever patch frames.”

Terry’s Jeep Farm in Kingston, NY

• CATEGORIES: Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I’m sad to report that Terry Ackert passed away last month. He ran the Jeep Farm in Kingston, NY. We had a chance to meet him in 2011. Tom forwarded this obituary. Below is the summary of our visit with him.

(Published Nov 17, 2011) This past Monday Andy took us over to meet Terry and tour Terry’s ‘jeep farm’ in Kingston, NY.  The entrance to the farm is a jeep tour in itself, requiring a good solid hill climbing vehicle as the jeep farm sits atop a hill like the summit of some holy jeep mecca.  In fact, the entrance is guarded by two luscious beauties … two barbie jeeps that have, admittedly, seen better days.  Once we reached the farm, jeeps began appearing in the woods.

Terry has been collecting jeeps for years and, even despite the rainy day, relishes what he does.  While Andy, Terry and I talked, Ann was busily exploring the scene for the perfect shot.  I’m not sure she even knew it was raining, because she was in her ‘photo zone’.  Terry was impressed enough that he gave Ann a little tootsietoy jeep (which needs some rebuilding).  Though we didn’t get a glass of wine on this visit, as the rain discouraged socializing, if you visit him on a nice day he just might share a glass with you. Give him a call at if you need some parts: 845 657 6692.  Thanks for taking time for us Terry!

Terry and I pose.  I like his eyeglasses holders.

Here are a few pictures from the our time there:

Here is Ann’s first ever jeep (left), given to her by Terry, and Andy’s more complete version of the Tootsietoy jeep:

March 25: Tucson, A Titan, and Tombstone

<– Day 7 – March 25: Jeep Signs in Tucson | Overview | Day 9 – March 26: Space History and White Sands –>

Today we had multiple stops planned. Overall, our goal was to drive from Tucson, Arizona, to Tularosa, New Mexico.

2013-03-25-tucson-tularosa-map

We had a very busy day on Monday. A long drive coupled with multiple stops.

After posting the picture from Moab of the CJ-2A mounted on a sign at Ivan’s, Joe pointed me to two similar places in Tucson, AZ. He even included addresses, which saved me time (thanks!). The first place, Willy’s works was a parts store and focuses on civilian and military jeeps. The ‘jeep’ yard held a variety of jeeps. The second place was Jack’s Government Surplus, which naturally focuses on military items. Around Jacks were all kinds of great parts’ yards. I wished I had the time to explore all the different yards!

We did not have time to explore either place. We stopped, took pictures and drove off. So, call or check them out the next time you are there.

Below are my pictures. You can see some ones from 2010 on Flickr. In the pictures you’ll see a M-38A1, a FC, and a M-151. I’m sure there is more.

Jeep Junkyard in Djibouti

It sure looks like there are some parts worth saving.  This was taken in The Republic of Djibouti, Africa, and posted on Flickr.  After some searching, I discovered these are probably Hotchkiss (see m201 website).

South Side Garage in Littlefield, Tx

• CATEGORIES: Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Steve spotted a reference to this Jeep Garage over at Willys TechThe South Side Garage was started by Earl Dow.  There’s a nice bit written by his son:

I grew up in my dad’s shop drinking 5 cent cokes, eating watermelons the farmers brought by in the summer time, and watching my dad turn old jeeps into things of pure wonder. This site and it’s photos represent him, that shop, and the experience and hardware accumulated over those long years. The shop is not a museum. It’s an old-fashioned mechanic’s workplace where things are meticulously organized by piles. But, they are piles known by heart by my dad, and which contain parts that are often hard to find for those restorers working on their favorite Jeep. If you have come here looking for that one part that will help you get the Jeep restored or your more recent model repaired, maybe we can do you some good.

JW Wreckers Jeep Salvage, Antelope, Ca

• CATEGORIES: News • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This Salvage location is in Antelope, California, and called J&W

J&W Garage was founded in 1945. The original owners were James Auld and “Wegge” Wigren, hence the name J&W.  James purchased Wegge’s portion of the business.  For many years the business was known as J&W for “James and Wife.”   The business was located on Auburn Blvd. in Citrus Heights, California.

The Duncan family took possession of the business on January 16, 1981.  We formed our own corporation, CAN-GRO, INC., and purchased J&W Auto Wreckers, Inc. We are located in Northern California just outside of Sacramento. We ship parts Worldwide, but we would be more than happy to have you stop by to check us out. 8626 Antelope No Road, Antelope CA 95843; Phone: (916) 723-3950; Fax: (916) 723-3953; Toll Free: 800-924-9732.”

Montana Overland — Home of the Jeep Ranch

• CATEGORIES: News • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

To my surprise, while browsing the internet I ran across a Jeep Salvage yard in Montana today.  Montana Overland sits on 20 acres in Plains, Montana, a town which, ironically, does not appear to be on the plains of Montana, but, instead, is nestled within the mountains.  Montana Overland specializes in “hard-to-find parts for your Jeep Willys wagons and pickups from 1946 through 1988“.  So, if you are looking for wagon or pickup parts, you might try them.

They also have a variety of vehicles for sale and  have an inventory of parts.

For example, here is a FC-170 flatbed for $1200, though it appears they may accept a lower offer.

Somewhere, I think I have posted the pics from this place.  But, I can’t find them.

Here’s some videos of what would best be called a Jeep Graveyard, located somewhere near Virginia I believe.  There are four videos total.  Obviously, not the best video, but still interesting. You can see still pics here:  http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f22/jeep-graveyard-657326/

Damn, what a lucky kid this guy was … I’m gonna have to talk to mom and dad about this! I had to wait until I was 18 for my first ‘real’ jeep!

And this is just for fun.  If you didn’t catch it, there was a fascinating documentary on the 2006 auction of Star Trek Memorabilia.
