Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “This 78 Jeep delivers rain, sleet, or shine lol. This thing is pretty AWESOME!! It has a bullet proof Inline 6 and TorqueFlite Automatic, the chassis is not rusted and the body isnt either. It runs great and all original. It has a few additions such as a little fan type A/C unit and a Pioneer CD player. Really clean considering the age it is in great shape. The question was asked..How many miles? the answer given…All of them, hehe. No seriously it has 488k miles and will still deliver at its peak performance. Maintained very well and I do have an additional one that quit and doesnt run and I will do a package deal for both. Any more concerns please text me.”

This looks in good shape. The seller’s explanation for the left hand DJ-5C makes sense. Anyone know if that’s true?
“I have a very rare 1974 jeep DJ-5C. This is not a cut up postal jeep but built on the same platform. They only made 2000 of these passenger models with left hand drive not a right hand postal jeep. 3 seats with seat belts. Motor is a strait 6 3.8L with a automatic transmission. 4×2 . Runs excellent and shifts smooth. New army green paint. Come by and see at any time.
90k original miles. Good tires. Currently registered and no need for smog. I do have the front hitch to pull behind RV or truck”

This was delivering mail up until last month.
“Finally upgraded. 1977 jeep dj-5 Have been delivering mail for 7 years as a RCA until 2/28/2014 in this jeep. Less than 5000 miles on new {not used} 232 6 cylinder engine, Last week had the rear end completele redone including new axle bearings and wheel cylinders, also new front drums, brakes and wheel cylinders and front tires and both front leaf springs were just replaced. also has new tranny cooler. Ready to work mail tray included. also have spare NEW drivers seat. 2 wheel drive.”

“Selling my Postal Jeep. Still has the original stickers United States Post Office as well. It is a right hand drive 2 wheel drive automatic transmission. The interior is in excellent condition, has original mail pans to. New tires and rims, I have original tires and rims to sell with it also if wanted. It doesn’t run at the moment, but it looks solid.
“For sale is a 1975 US mail jeep in great shape. The jeep was bought at an auction and was in perfect running order. However it has been sitting for about 10 years and I do not know if it runs now. It only has one seat and all controls are on the right side of vehicle. The tires that are on it now are flat but haven’t tried putting air in them. Its been kept inside a barn since it was bought. Give me a call if you have any questions.”

Here’s a chance to own your very own Popcorn and Cotton Candy Jeep.
“I bought this 1976 mail jeep last year and fixed it up. It runs great. It has a license plate and an open title. I’m asking $2,000 obo.”
I didn’t realize how many DJ models came with the inline 6. Apparently, that’s the reason for the bumped out hood in front.
“1978 Jeep DJ5-F. This is a retired United States Postal service Jeep so it is right hand drive. Has inline 6 cylinder, Automatic Transmission, aftermarket cab heater, runs and drives (but will need tune-up and carburetor clean/rebuild) Will have to taken away on trailer due to running rough, expired tabs, no insurance and right turnsignal isn’t working. I bought this as a project vehicle but have not time to fix it up. I have put over $1000 in parts into the vehicle already. Has new tires, new wheels, new front shocks, newer battery and a new muffler just to mention the big purchases. Odometer only goes up to 99,999, therefor I have no idea how many miles it truly has. “Up for sale is a 1978 Jeep DJ5. It is a retired mail jeep. It is right hand drive. Starts right up every time. Title in hand. Totally street legal. Bought it as a project but realized I don’t have the time nor the extra cash to invest as my son just got his license and I need to get something he can use.”
