Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This CJ-2A looks like it’s in very good shape. Except for the diamond plating, it appears pretty stock.
“1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep. Original f-head 4 cyl motor(milage unknown), 3 speed tranny, twin stick transfer case, New paint and diamond plate, New roll in bed liner, 12volt electrical, New 5 gal. gas can and holder, towbar and hitch. 3000.00 OBO Cash only.”

“This Jeep is being relisted from about 3 weeks ago. Up for sale is a 1946 Willys Jeep that I bought from an an elderly gentleman’s estate sale in February. This is a very early CJ2a that originally came with a column shift. I have not had the time to devote to rebuilding it and now I must sell it to make room for other vehicles. I got this jeep running with a basic tune up. It has a Buick 231 V6, power steering conversion and add on turn signals. This jeep does need work. The front left frame horn appears to have a slight tweak downward on the left side.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500.
“Leave the tow rig at home, this jeep gets 25+ mpg and cruises at 70 mph. Built with an all DOM tube chassis it’s super strong and only weighs 2000 lbs. Has long arm 4 link suspension for a lot of travel off road.
The entire drivetrain is from a 4 cyl. 1997 wrangler. Fuel injection and emissions are hooked up. Why show up at the trail in a rig that looks just like everybody elses?”
It looks like the seller put some effort into this rebuild.
“1946 WILLYS CJ2A, 2.5″ SPRINGLI, FT, 36″ SUPER SWAMPER TIRES, T18 FORD 4SPEED w/LOW 1ST GEAR, 1970 JEEP/BUICK 225 V6 (DAUNTLESS CROSSFIRE) WAS BUILT BY ENG.-MACHINE SHOP – BORED & STROCKED TO 3.9 LITER, 1983 DANA 30 FRONT & DANA 44 REAR W/ ARB AIR LOCKERS FRONT & REAR, DISC. BRAKES FRONT- DRUM REAR. I BUILT THIS JEEP 8 YEARS AGO AND DROVE IT ABOUT 3000 MILES, JOB TOOK ME OUT OF TOWN AND THE JEEP HAS BEEN STORED FOR 5 YEARS.. I RUN IT ABOUT EVERY THREE MONTHS DURING STORAGE.”
If you are looking for an early CJ-2A, this has got some good elements, including the driver’s side cutouts, the column shifter, and a heater. The passenger side fuel hole is interesting; I don’t believe that was stock?
“This early CJ-2A has an ID number of 16741. It is a 3 speed on the tree. It has a clear MO title. Below is the description: Motor – Org. 4 cylinder. Just got back from machine shop. All four cylinders were re-sleeved. Crank was polished. New pistons, valves, springs, etc Everything still in boxes as you can see by the pictures. Interior – I have no seats. Does have a roll bar. Floor is solid, except for the “bed”. It should be cut out and fitted with new metal. Exterior – The only rust I can see is the passage side step. Some of the Hat Channel underneath will need to be cut (maybe 3 feet) Tailgate is orginal, but is pretty rough. I have no windshield and I don’t believe the hood is org. because there is no Willys stamped on it.”

“I have a 1948 willys jeep with a flathed 4 it runs good drives good and looks good. no rust body is strieght.I asking 1500 for it or trade for a small car or pickup for same value.”
UPDATE: I do not know whether this sold or not. I’ll keep for historical purposes.
Obviously, these don’t appear every day. Note that this one has been stretched 6 inches, which makes it ideal for placing on a CJ-5 frame. It appears to have a solid back, like a DJ-3A.
“Very Cool!! RARE!! Stainless Steel Willys Jeep Body Hand built in the philippines in the 1970’s and was shipped to the states. Streched 6 in. in door & 6 in. Behind the rear fender. The Body will fit right onto a CJ-5 Frame It’s a Must sale for me… I simply need the money. “
Here’s a restored CJ-2A out of New Mexico.
“1946 Willys CJ2A, classic Jeep restored to original condition w/careful attention to detail, frame off restoration, every component of drive train rebuilt including the GO DEVIL flat head, L-134 engine, transfer case and transmission, new Spicer fron axle shafts, new brake lines, wheel cylinders and master cylinder, ignition converted to 12 volt solid state, Jeep comes w/open-sided, canvas, trail top and adjustable tow bar, $9500 or best offer.”
This looks like a very solid, clean CJ-2A. I think the opening bid price on this is pretty reasonable.
“You are bidding on an original rarely seen 1947 Willys Jeep CJ-2A that has been mechanically restored to use as an excellent daily driver, cruise nights, a shore summer house Jeep conv. or off-road 4×4. It is an original Willys Jeep CJ-2A 4×4 it now has a back seat, with full bucket seat interior, electric wipers, 3 speed manual transmission many great upgrades and so much more.”
Looks pretty stock.
