Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. ABOUT JEEP: 1951 Jeep Willys M38 Tactical Truck 1/4 Ton. The Willys M38 United States Army Jeep, also known as the Willys MC, replaced the World War II Willys MB and Ford GPW models. It was a 1/4 ton 4 × 4 utility truck manufactured between 1949 and 1952 with a total production of more than 60,000 units. The M38 was military version of the then-current civilian Jeep CJ-3A. The M38 differed from the CJ-3A in numerous ways, including a reinforced frame and suspension, waterproof 24-volt electrical system, sealed vent system for the engine, transmission, transfer case, fuel system and brake system. Some M38 jeeps were assigned to the Korean theater of operations, but the majority of vehicles used in that conflict were rebuilt WWII vintage. Approximately 2,300 M38 Jeeps were manufactured by Ford of Canada for Canadian Armed Forces in 1952, designated as the M38-CDN jeep. Its successor was Willys M38A1.

We originally restored this jeep 7 yrs ago at that time we rebuilt trans transfercase and had it painted has less then 2000 miles on it since it was restored.
Does have a few chips in paint runs and drives good located in fort smith Arkansas. ”

Body and frame media blasted and painted original color green. Body dents and bruises unrepaired to preserve the authenticity and history of the Korean war. Runs and drives beautifully. New top and old top. 5,075 original miles. Was previously owned by local marine organization who used the jeep soley (for riding marine veterans who were no longer able to walk) in local parades.”

“Korean War era and early Vietnam War, last of the flat-fender jeeps. This is the military version of the CJ3A. This jeep was only produced for three years. Completely restored, rust cut out and replaced. Everything cleaned, sandblasted, or replaced, as close to original as I could get. Many original parts were used. Jeep has 21,000 original miles. Runs and drives great. Many years ago, was used for Civil Air Patrol at Cleveland Air Force Base, was painted blue, but I stripped off the old paint and re-painted. New leaf springs, original 24-volt system. New wiring harness from Vintage Wiring of Maine. Top and seat covers by Beachwood Canvas, seats have springs. The jeep is ready for whatever you want to do with it.
I’m working on a 1952 Strick M100 Trailer which will be ready soon. Trailer will have new floor, shocks, tires, canvas cover, and wiring harness. I will sell this trailer with jeep or by itself. I only have trailer restoration pictures right now.
Asking $16,000 for the jeep. Jeep and trailer $18,000. Trailer separate will be $2,500.”

Art spotted this almost stock M-38 with a Stewart Warner heater.
1950 Willys M38 Model MC Arctic Jeep 4 X 4. Serial # MC 30993. Mileage reads 68,059. Powered by the original 4 cylinder Go Devil engine. 3 speed manual transmission with 2 speed transfer case and locking hubs. This is an actual Military issue Arctic model Jeep with the rear body reinforcement panels. The top and doors are removable and the heater can be run without starting the Jeep (heater has not been tested but is reported to be working). This Jeep starts easily and runs good, the transmission works as it should.
The Willy’s M38 Jeeps were only built from 1949 to 1952 and this is a nice example of a Korea War vintage Jeep with an unusual Arctic service upgrade. To watch the video.”

(09/27/2015) “Very nice flat fender Military Jeep.. Runs good. Solid body. Appears to be very original. 4 wheel drive works great. The M38’s will go just about anywhere. Not much bigger than a 4 wheeler with way more torque. One of the absolute best vehicles off road. Not the best on the road. Great for a cabin or hunting. Has near perfect olive drab cloth top as well. No doors.”
