    Those are acid engraved printing “cuts”. This method of engraving employed a photographic negative and chemical processes to print photographs using letterpress machines such as heidelburgh printing presses. This ‘plate’ was locked up with in the correct position so rollers could apply ink and an impression was made on paper. Way more complicated than that, but basic idea. FYI I began in the trade in 1966 and this was outmoded by that time for commercial printing of a large scale format.

    We have a bunch of these of various subject matter, including jeeps. These are later ones using the chemical process. The surface of them is only thousandths of an inch deep.
