Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This Warn brochure from 1955 highlights the differences between automatic and semi-automatic hubs. I didn’t know there were such things as the automatic hub.
As I understand it they had difficulty getting the automatic ones to work right and eventually discontinued them,,I believe in the later-60s (not positive of that). There’s a very comprehensive history of Warn hubs I’ve run across on-line before.

You are correct. Hugo Vidal, who knew Arthur Warn and sold Warn hubs in Brazil, told me they didn’t work well at all.
