  1. This April 20, 1943, photo taken in New York shows 3 Ford GPA Seeps.

U.S. Army Amphibian Jeep (Quack) Model & Video

I just picked up this U.S. Army Amphibian Jeep model (1/2″ scale). It’s dated 1943 from the Mod-Ac Manufacturing Company, LA, California. It looks complete. I’ve never run across a reference to these being called “Quacks”, but it makes sense given the larger ones are referred to as “Duks”.

Here’s a video of some “Quacks” in action during their testing dates at the Ford Rouge Plant. Lots of video shots I have never seen.

The GPA doesn’t look customized to me. However, the photo itself looks doctored, as if the GPA wasn’t photographed at that spot.

A Ford GPA to the rescue!

“1943 Press Photo Army amphibious jeep delivers food to flooded hotel. This is an original press photo. With downtown Logansport IN inundated by the Wabash River guests stranded at the Barnett Hotel received their food via an Army amphibious jeep during the worst flood the area has known since 1913.
