“For your consideration a very RARE USMC version of the M170 ambulance jeep. This particular jeep was a radio version of the M170 and it has different details on the interior …the seats , also has a very heavy duty electrical system and comes with a Ramsey model 50 winch power take off unit.
Unfortunately the very rare model 50 winch is now missing only the actual PTO unit is left mounted to the rear of the transmission.

Overall the body condition is very nice for the year, has minimal rust through in hat channels.
Frame springs and axles are excellent, brakes were recently replaced as has been a lot of the wiring still 24 V engine runs excellent has a rebuilt carburetor missing some waterproof pieces of the majority are still there I do have extra parts available

Here is your chance to own an extremely rare USMC radio jeep…. it is produced in 1963 which is much later than normal production run for these vehicles one of the last ones produced was in 1964 overall a great collectors item . “For sale, Is an amazing 1954 Jeep Willy M170 Frontline Ambulance army jeep, these were also used for radio communication as well. This model is basically a stretched and beefed up version of the more common M38A1 model. Many of the parts are the same and can still be found. Around 4500 of these models were made. Many of them did not return from the Korean Theater. The ambulance version can be seen on the hit series M.A.S.H. This particular unit was stationed in Albany, GA. I’ve had the vehicle since 2006.
-This Jeep has clean title and registration.
-Vehicle did run and drive. I put an electronic ignition. Still have the original Distributer (as well as several NOS parts). Aside from electronic ign electrical system still 24vdc.
– This Jeep has around 18000 miles. Some body damage.
– Tires are 31″ Goodyear MTR. They still hold air.
Has original F-head hurricane motor. Aprox. whopping 75hp. Motor was designed to run underwater. (I wouldn’t recommend) Original fuel tank is missing.
Motor is coupled to the venerable borg warner T90 three speed synchro transmission.
Power is split via a Dana 18 twin stick transfer case. (No PTO). To the dana 25/27 front axle. To the Dana 44 rear axle.
Axles are held in place by reverse shackle multi leaf springs.

“M 170, build date 3/54, serial # 10023.
I purchased this vehicle a few years ago purely to save it from the Vermont elements. When I bought it the engine was lightly stuck, needed brake work and the fuel system was contaminated. This was my first Willys project but I didn’t have a place to get after it, I parked in my shed for a year while a shop was built, I sprayed the underbody with Fluid Film to stop any corrosion until I could get to it. It has lived in a heated shop since the shop was completed. I will describe everything to the best of my abilities, there are many pictures, if I don’t cover something please reach out and I will tell you what I know. Keep in mind I am not an accomplished mechanic nor am I a body man, the good news is that I am fully aware of this fact.
