Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Here’s an example of my theory that the Army suplused and sold the earliest model jeeps while the war was still on. This would help explain (besides their lower numbers) why they’re rare today. Since there was no civilian car market during the war any vehicle that found its way to the marketplace was especially driven hard, used up and then was scrapped years ago. Of course this is only a theory, and I could be wrong .
