The reason the army went with NDT tires was so the enemy could not tell which direction the vehicle was traveling. I suspect it is the same in this case. By looking at the tire tracks, one would be unable to determine which way the vehicle was traveling.
Unless they were looking for traction in reverse.
Never thought about that. Makes a lot of sense!
