    Dave,

There is an interesting story behind this. That plane was originally reserved by Ford Motor company to bring out two of their cars from Dearborn, MI to L.A. They tried to load the Fords and they were too big to get through the cargo doors. I assume Charles Sorenson got wind of this somehow as I sure he still had ties with Ford. He had Harold Bell Willys sales manager arrange to have the plane ship five Jeeps out there instead. Willys west coast distributor August Johnson picked them up for a ‘premier showing.’

Yes, they flew out of Willow Run Airport. One of those five vehicles is now in the Sacramento area. Unfortunately it now has a V8 and Power Steering and a 10K sticker price.
