A first year M38A1.
Build date of 9-52 (or is it an 8?), and 17054 serial.
Questions…
What month in 1953 were the first units produced?
What was the beginning serial? 00001? 10000?
At any rate, judging by known serials, it seems Willys was really “cranking them out” in the early years.
Mine has a March 1955 build date…so 30 months later, and a 825xx serial…some 65000 units after this. So production would be more than 2000 units a month.
This vehicle has a tailgate added.

Grabbed and posted better pic.
I would have to imagine 10001 start, guess only tried to dig some up not much luck.
So maybe started like April of ’52, could not find that month start easily either.
Closed at $5100, not a bad buy.
Love those former CD Jeeps.
