Owned a 1965 Wagoneer 230 Tornado 6 of which was notorious for oil leaks, 3 speed on the tree linkage was so screwed up it required practice to get it to shift gears. I knew a guy back in Paterson, NJ that owned a 1965 Wagoneer with the Buick 327 V/8 and that was a pleasure to ride in, difference of night & day between the 230 6 & the GM V/8.

I do love my 230’s, can’t speak to these Waggoneers but the refinement of a Willys Wagon with the newer cross over steering and 230, mine has 3.54’s its a neat driver. I don’t think the 3.54 are the perfect match for the 230 sweet spot, but it’s a lot of power.

Your not wrong on any points! They were not set up for success out of the gate.

I don’t know the back story how / why they landed in the M-715 series, what spec exactly drove that decision. By then they had worked out a lot of the issues. Way too little and way too late.
