UPDATE: This DJ-5 now sits in my shop. I worked out a deal to acquire it so I can straighten out the title. A number of parts have been rebuilt on this, but before I start it I need to check oil levels, connect a few hoses, install a battery, etc. I want it to warm up some before I tackle all that. I’ll clean if up and remove the top before I take another round of better photos.
This DJ-5 for sale is a very rare 1967 left-hand drive DJ-5 with a borg-warner 2-speed automatic. Just over 2,000 DJ-5s were made between 1965-1967. The jeep was ordered with the BW automatic and delivered to the University of Washington. The jeep was bought from the UW and lived in Arizona for some time.

Why the 8 holes in rim, ease of installation, ability to switch if holes get worn, possibly other applications?

SteveK: That’s because the DJ-5s made between 1965-1967 were just updated versions of the DJ-3A .. same front axle, four lug brake drum (I’d have to look to see if these are 9″ or 10″). An update on the rims. These are after market rims specially modified for the DJ-5 lug size. The previous owner selected them because they sport a chrome hubcap. He then had the original design and colors added to the hubcaps. They are pretty slick!
This now sits in my shop. I am going to make sure it is clean and runs before it is relisted, but I need it to warm up a little bit before I can get to it.
like to know more about the transmission, as I am not aware of a BW 2 speed. most likely a BW-T35 that starts in 2nd then 3rd. still, the adaptation would be interesting. I have read of M38-A1 jeeps fitted with BW 3 band transmissions that Studebaker used, also 3 speed units that were not mass produced. would very much like to learn more as I have been building transmissions for over 50 years.
