David had helped me out with Willys issue a number of times down through the years.
I think about a story he published regarding his Dad. It was when his Dad was in the hospital with a short time to live. Dave said he was there with him and was talking to Dave. Dave’s Dad said I what to do a push up and managed to get into the position. Dave wrote that his Dad did one push up and then passed away.
It often comes to my mind how David saw the way his Dad passed. His Dad was strong till his last breath.
When I read in EWillys Dave’s note to the readers about his terminal diagnosis and the time he might have left , I thought of the story about his Dad’s passing and his strength and Dave’s were very much alike. His note and the way he handled it took some huge inner strength . I’m sure Dave’s faith helped him with that strength but had to be very hard to write.
Dave was a straight shooter in a day when they are getting scarce like Willys parts.
Thanks Dave for who you were. We won’t forget.
Shortly after I retired, David launched the eWillys.com website which became my morning routine -Coffee with eWillys and then e-mails or messages with David about the latest entries. We shared a lot of the same passions for the Flat Fender Willys and Jeep History over the next 20+ years. I remember mailing David a pristine vintage Al-Toy aluminum Willys to for his collection a surprise. His enthusiasm for the vintage Jeeps touched so many of his followers over the years and across the World. – a true Icon for the Jeep Community.
