(09/19/2011) The engine is apart and floor needs work.

“Very rare 1959 Jeep FC-170 pickup truck with 9 foot steel bed. Have looked all over the country in Craigslists and cannot find another.

Truck was disassembled and body work, sanding and primer done and reassembled. Contineltal L-226 engine disassembled for inspection. Probably needs bearings, rings, valves ground and reassembled (or else install engine of your choice).

It has HD 3-speed trannsmission, drive shafts, good radiator, good tires. Doors are good and straight – they
open and close easily, need new door seals (door to body). Both original bucket seats need recovered.

Truck is original – not lowered, raised or modified in any way.

The floor in bed needs replaced, or a piece of sheet metal or wood layed on top of existing floor. It apparently has set outside and the bed floor rusted. The floor support cross members are good and solid.”

What about the FC-160?

I had to update this page because my links I had used no longer work.  Fortunately, I found an image of a FC-160 from India (at least the Flickr page claims it is a FC-160 — feel free to correct me on this).  This picture was taken in January of this year by Vaibhav Bhosale.

“In 1965 Mahindra & Mahindra of India began assembling the Jeep FC Forward Control. Mahindra introduced its versions to include the FC-160. The FC-160 (and later FJ-160) uses a frame which is 2.33 meters in length. The FC-150s frame was 2.05 meters while the FC-170 used a frame of 2.63 meters in length. Thus, the FC-160 was an intermediate truck, marketed to supplement the FC line and the final version was only manufactured by Mahindra & Mahindra.

The pick-up box was designed and manufactured by Mahindra and there were other bodies which were available. Additionally, the base FC-160 chassis was used in the manufacture of a mini-bus which uses the basic front face of the FC. Currently, Mahindra’s FJ-460 and FJ-470 van or mini-bus vehicles still retain the appearance of the original Forward Control. These vehicles can accomodate from 11 to 15 passengers plus the driver”

Caption from flickr: One of the three Jeep models built by Mahindra & Mahindra. This vehicle was used by my school to train the students on Automobile subject. We used to play hide n seek when it got abandoned.

UPDATE: **SOLD* Was $500.

The engine is stuck.

“1959 Willys Jeep Forward Control FC-170.
The truck has the original flathead 226 “Super Hurricane” straight 6 engine but it is stuck. I had planned to pull the head and work the pistons free but I have no time for it now.. Has the 3 speed T-90 transmission. Being a Jeep it is of course four wheel drive.

These are bit of a rare bird as only ~35000 of them were ever made. This one has a fair bit of rust typical of living in the rust belt.
It used to be a farm truck up in Michigan. There’s no bed on it. It was originally a stake bed I believe.

The drivers side window has a crack through it. All the other windows are fine but the front windshield is a bit fogged along the bottom.”

1958 FC-170 Saint Helens, Or $2500

This may be a good project.

“Has been sitting in my garage for 10 years! I don’t think I am getting any closer to finishing this project…

Very original, unique Oregon history, I have the original 1958 Oregon title, I am the second owner.

In good shape, does need some rust repair but not like most! Engine runs and it drives and stops. Brand new tires, white powder coat wheels with 2 spares (no tires on them). Two extra engines and another FC170 parts rig which is all there except the bed (was a flat bed).

I would love to get this out of my garage. Might be interested in a trade if something interests me.

Drop me an email if you have questions…”

“1963 FC 170 around 70,000 miles. Has the original 6 cyl Hurricane engine is running but is tired, and a 3 speed trans. Truck is 4wd. Everything on the truck works, wipers, heater, lights and signals. Brakes work but one wheel cylinder is leaking. Tires are in excellent condition. I feel body is in above average condition but it does have some rust and the floorboards need replaced. Call Gary @ 859-seven seven one-1852. No spam please.”
