Vehicles of the Red Army – Oliver Missing’s Website

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Bantam-FordGP-WillysMA-EarlyJPs, GPA (SEEP), Website This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Oliver Missing operates a unique website out of Germany.  He is drawing all kinds of vehicles of the red army, whether they were built, borrowed or hi-jacked from other other countries.  Started in 2003, Oliver now has over 1,000 drawings, including 5 different ‘jeeps’:  a Bantam BRC-40, Willys MA, Willys MB, Ford GP, and the Ford GPA. The drawings are created using Jasc Paint Shop Pro and Xara Xtreme.  He plans to do many more drawings as time permits.

Here’s a couple of drawings:

smithsonian_cover_1992As I mentioned in a post when I first launched eWillys, which appears to have disappeared in last year’s database disaster, one of my favorite Jeep Cartoons was drawn by Bill Mauldin and placed on the front of the November 1992 issue of the Smithsonian Magazine.  You can see that one to the right (or see a larger version here).  No doubt many of you have seen this before.  At the time I wrote the post, it never occurred to me to search for any other cartoons by Bill.

However, for mystical reasons that remain unclear, it occurred to me tonight to search for other ‘Willys’ cartoons by Bill.  Here’s the results of my search. (send me others or links to others if you know of more ….

Blueprints for Willys

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Features, Website This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Here's an interesting site I found. Blueprints.com  claims to have over 24,000 automobile blueprints online (though they appear more like a single drawing rather than full blueprints), including a variety of jeeps.  To the right is a jeep labeled CJ-4.  The site manager states:

"I do not claim to have made, scanned or drawn all of the blueprints on this website. I did on the other collect, edit and host all of them, free of charge, in my spare time.

This is a drawing a Boeing co-worker of dad’s drew of and for him many years ago (in the 80s I believe). We believe the artist was Bill Mandeville or Manderville (dad can’t quite remember any more).
