Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1953 Willys Jeep. I am not sure of the model, I have been told it is a CJ3B but there also is a tag on the firewall that says M-38. The jeep runs and drives and seems to be all original but the 4cyl engine knocks and the brakes don’t work. The transmission and transfer case seem to work great. Here’s what looks like a very good price on a CJ-3B that includes an Overdrive.
“This is my old Jeep CJ3B. I’m the second owner, and I purchased it in 1998 or so.
Its factory PTO, winch, and overdrive. The winch has a broken foot which I was going to repair, but I figured I’d let the buyer do it (I can still do it if ya want!)
The jeep has a straight 6 conversion engine from the 70s. Its a 232. It runs good, but I have no idea what the mileage is on it. Its factory tranny (3 speed) and transfer case (twin stick). Lots of tread left on the tires, but they are several years old. BFgoodrich 33×9.50×15 on chrome rims. The jeep has a Dana 44 rear and a dana 25 or 27 front (closed knuckle). 5.38 gears. I’ve got another d44 for the jeep that has a warn full floater conversion on it and a lock-right in it. It works great….. The jeep is $1500 obo. ”

When I first saw it, I thought it was restored to original. Instead it’s a custom restoration that seems half original and half custom, which I think hurts the value a bit.

The seller claims this is in restorable condition, but it looks like there’s quite a bit of edge rust.
