Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Rick pointed out to me that this 1958 CJ-5 has no battery box lid nor does it have the knockout piece on the passenger side of the hood. Is it possible this was special ordered without those items? Or did they sometimes use the battery box bodies and sometimes use the non battery box bodies? Nearly all the CJ-5s I’ve recorded have the battery box lids on the 58s.
May be a good jeep for the price.

“1965 Kaiser Willys Jeep CJ5, very rare Tuxedo Park edition meticulous frame off restoration, every last nut, bolt inside and outside with virtually every then available factory option, Dauntless Buick V6, Husky Overdrive, vintage Kelly Bonanza hardtop with removable doors, factory bench seat, factory chrome bumpers, etc. Restoration completed in 2012, just a few thousand miles driven since finished. Never in salt, sand, rarely in rain. Over $20K invested. Its like buying a brand new 1965 Jeep! My loss is your gain! Motivated Seller. Jim spotted this nice looking CJ-5. It looks like it has a Tuxedo Park Package and appears to have the Indian Ceramic steering wheel.
“From high up in the mountains of central Colorado comes a very well preserved, 1964 CJ5 that is largely unmolested. The reason I say largely unmolested is that other than a carburetor change to aid the drivability at altitude, this jeep is all original from factory paint to the factory upholstery. The original Carter Carburetor is included, along with the air cleaner ducting should the buyer wish to return it to its stock configuration. Carter did offer a “High Altitude” kit for the “Hurricane 4″but it was rated rated at 4000 ft above sea level, but when you consider that this jeep lives at 8000 ft, and a ride into the high country may find it 13,000’+, you see the Carter solution is not viable. Re-jet you say? Carter used metering rods instead of jets, so that’s why it has the very popular Weber Progressive 2 bbl. conversion which allows re-jetting to accommodate the thin air.

Runs and has a rear PTO.
“1961 jeep willy’s Run’s and drives no 3rd gear the person I bought the Jeep from said everything work so don’t know if it’s due to sitting for a long period of time if the synchronizer bad in the transmission or not but the PTO works in 3rd gear, body is rough great project or parts Jeep standard transmission PTO on the rear.”

“Perfect winter project or potential parts vehicle. 1965 CJ-5 Kaiser Jeep 4×4. Clean Colorado Title. I bought this jeep two years ago for $1800 based on the recommendation of a jeep enthusiast who was going to help me rebuild it. He got transferred for work and the reason I’m selling. My loss is your gain. $1500 OBO. There is a bent rod in the motor (4-cylinder Willys Hurricane), otherwise it ran solid. Swing by and take a look if you’re interested. I don’t know the front or rear end, transmission or transfer case specifics. The Jeep is located in Loveland, CO. The seats are still in the Jeep, I took them out to show the overall condition of the floor board.”

If you have a Tuxedo Park, this could make a good parts jeep.
“One of 7500 ever made, the F-Head 4cyl version was only made in 1964.
This vehicle is rusty, but unmolested.
1964 Kaiser Jeep CJ5 Tuxedo Park Mark IV
F-134 Hurricane, 6v, motor turns over good and has good compression, exhaust manifold is off of it right now.
Three on the Tree 3 speed trans
Lockout hubs
Dealer equipped Hard top and doors
Has a Michigan Parts title in my name, all you need is an inspection to make sure its road worthy and MI will issue a Regular title.”
